I went to Cosmos-Heart last spring after a very long and exhausting drive from Austria. I arrived after the cafe had closed, but the owner was still there with her father. They opened their doors to me, a very weary traveller and fed me. If this sounds Biblical, it felt that way! The kindness of the young proprietor and her older but wise-looking father was very inspiring. I'm from NYC and when I travel, while I don't look for things that remind me of home, it's always nice finding something that does. Cosmos is run like the hippest Brooklyn cafes with very high quality coffee and (wait for it) BAGELS AND CREAM CHEESE. This is a silly note but for people who love bagels - maybe not so silly.
The owner also made sandwiches and salads for me and her father joined me for my meal! It turns out that her father comes to New York from time to time and once was an incredible soccer player. He told me about epic matches he played internationally - in Burma, in Malaysia and in Brazil. While he looks like he has lost a step or two, he must have been very fit when he was younger.
The cafe is very very calming and relaxing too. There are photos of birds and artwork covering the walls. The music was very soothing as well - exactly what I needed to re-energize after a day on the Autobahn!
If you're within driving distance of Cosmos Heart, you would be doing yourself a disservice not to visit! read more
