Antiques & More is one of 20 antique stores lining Oak Street in historic downtown Arcadia. Arcadia…read morewas destroyed in a fire in 1905 and the buildings on Oak Street are from the early 1900's when the city was rebuilt. This store is located in the L.L. Morgan building which was the first building to be rebuilt after the fire. The upper facade of the building bears Morgans name and the 1906 date. On the first floor Morgan sold hardware and furniture and the top floor was the mortuary. When you look in the back on the first floor you can still see the pulley system that was used to hoist the bodies up to the top floor! I had a wonderful time visiting with Glenda who is the owner of this store. She told me how she used to have a Sear catalog business and rent to own business before selling antiques. In addition to selling her own items she also rents space to other vendors. Only the first floor of the building is open and she is using the two upper floors for storage. In the store you will find several rooms stuffed with housewares, furniture, bric-a-brac, jewelry, books, and a ton of other stuff. If you are interested in history she sells two great books about Arcadia on her counter. I was interested in the vintage Pyrex dishes in the hard to find turquoise snowflake pattern with glass lid. It is a rare color and even harder to find with a lid. The seller wanted top dollar and after a quick phone call she refused to budge on the price so I passed. I am still looking for a bargain. Although I left empty handed meeting Glenda was a highlight of my trip. There is so much to explore here and Glenda is wonderful about providing information on the items in her store and about Arcadia.

I stopped into this place during a day trip to Arcadia on a summer weekend after it caught my eye…read moreas it looked very unique with a eclectic exterior that displayed a few prominent antiques in the window and found myself blown away with a gorgeous and equally awe inspiring interior decorated with a diverse mix of grandiose antiques that featured dominant items such as tables, chairs, beds, and dressers. Equally impressive was this place's vast repertoire of ambient selections that featured bold lighting fixtures, exceptionally unique mirrors, notable clocks, and different beautiful pottery items which all captured my attention in their own noteworthy way. I felt as if I had been transported to the world of Shakespeare's Hamlet or Lewis Carrol's Alice in Wonderland in terms of the wonderfully stunning visuals provided in this place of business which is a treasure resource for any one looking to decorate their daughter's bedroom or even a realtor looking for a few items to help give their listing a proper decor to compliment the beauty of the home as is customary in that avenue of showing off what a listing is capable of with the proper interior decor. I was greeted very promptly and courteously upon entering in a relaxing, yet inviting manner that wonderfully complimented the natural vibe I recieved upon entering this place of business which rightfully invokes a garden like feel with a broad range of variety of items suitable for many needs. Looking forward to picking up more items for both home and business in the near future!

Our major find to date has been the Vintage Garden in Arcadia. If you are looking for typical Florida "stuff" that looks good in Florida but when you get home you look at it and go, "What was I thinking?' just keep driving. This is one of the most unique shops you will visit, and indeed is a step back in time, in the best possible way. You will find things there you will most likely not see anywhere else. When we first visited the shop the conversation between my wife and me was more, "Wow, look at this!" and "Oh my, I haven't see one of those in years." My suggestion is to plan to spend a lot of time in the store because you will get hooked. The staff is best described as "old school" which for me is a good thing. They are there to help, to answer your questions and help you find things without being pushy. Over the years when my wife is looking for a special item for a gift or the house, we usually find a reason to start at the Vintage Garden. Put it on your list of places to visit. You won't be disappointed.

He has done an excellent job displaying everything in a way that allows you to get up close and touch every item before purchasing without much assistance. This place ranks at the top of my list of antique store in Arcadia and the owner couldn't be more friendly and knowledgable about what he's buying and putting up for sell. I found (3) great pieces and approached the owner Bobby and asked for his best prices if I purchased all (3) pieces he was very up front with his cost gave me what I thought was a fair discount but both of us being experts in negotiations lol we finally agreed on a fair price for all the pieces and both felt good about making the deal. This is definitely a must stop is you are looking for something special, beware though he doesn't have a lot of junk here he really understands the market and the importance of quality this is the type of businesses in this town that keeps people coming back I know without a doubt I will return.

It is well worth making the turn off the main strip because you will find quite a few treasures here. The store is located in a historic building from 1918 that was formerly owned Henry W. who operated the H.W. Rice Garage and Machine Shop. The business was later owned by Lewis Bishop who invented the rotary mower that revolutionized mowing grass. On the side of the building is ample parking. On the first floor of the building you will find room upon room of all kinds of bric-a-brac, furniture, jewelry, home goods, and collectibles. The store had quite a few vintage Christmas items which set it apart from some of the other stores I visited during my stay. You never know what you will find which is what makes the hunt so fun.

The owners go to NY, Brimfield, etc., to bring these treasures back to SWFl. I have been here are several occasions and leave with something. Either as a gift, project or new addition to my home. Any friend who has come with me has also purchased and wants to know when we are returning! By far the best shop in Arcadia!
