I want to believe she just took on a job that was too much for her to handle at the time. In October 2014 I had Tara with Wag watch my 8 cats and 1 dog. Prior to leaving we emailed frequently and met once. She replied very quickly within an hour or two at the most. We agreed on a price which I believe was $280 for ten days. This was the first time we had someone outside of our family watch our pets. We discussed during our meeting twice a day feedings, litter box cleaning and once a day walk for our dog. Since my dog is around people all day I was concerned he would have a hard time being alone. We discussed Tara taking our dog around with her so he didn't get lonely. We were a little concerned that he might not get along with with her dogs. When we arrived in Mexico I emailed Tara she took longer than normal to get back to me. This really worried me at first (remember first time leaving them with someone that wasn't family). She did respond to me 11 hours later. It seemed odd to me that she was way less responsive when we were out of town. But she could have been busy with the animals. After flying from Mexico to Seattle then Seattle to Portland then driving home to Albany we were a bit tired. When we came into the house it had a strange musky smell, which at first we weren't concerned about. The food bowls downstairs were filled to the top. After all the luggage was unloaded and we found most of the animals we went upstairs. That is when we had a horrible surprise. Our bedroom apparently became the unofficially bathroom for our dog. There were multiple urine stains and pieces of feces, the smell when you walked upstairs was horrible. We rented a rug doctor then had a professional carpet cleaner for $180 and still couldn't get all the smell out. I was so upset at myself because I thought I did my research. I met her she seemed nice I checked online no yelp reviews but her website and Facebook had great comments. I could not find anything negative. I held this guilt in for almost a year because I pride myself in taking the best care I can of my pets. I do feel bad that I had not contacted Tara prior to few days ago. I didn't really want to talk to her because I was so upset. We emailed a back and forth that night and although both of our first emails were obviously from anger I think our second emails were not. After a few days to reflect on the whole situation I think more communication would have improved this whole situation. What I did not know until the other night was that took my dog out with hers but the interaction was not great so she stopped doing this. I also expected her to contact me after we got home to let me know how things went and she didn't. I didn't contact her because she was the last person I wanted to ever talk to. In our recent emails we discussed only having my dog have overnight pet sitters, which I have found someone else that I do trust do this. My expectations may have been too high I expect professionals to give there opinions even if the client doesn't listen they should give them their advice. For example when I told her about how our dog is almost always with someone she could have suggested overnight stays because since it was my first time hiring a pet sitter I was relying on her expertise to guide me. I think both Tara and I learned very valuable lessons from this transaction. I really don't want to ruin her business I just want anyone else wanting a pet sitter to be able to see both good and bad reviews. I really wish Tara the best in the future. I do think she cares about animals but this transaction we had was not favorable.
