I really enjoy playing Texas Holdem at Rounderz. The staff does an excellent job making each player…read morefeel welcomed and comfortable. The dealers are professional and help add to the fun and social vibe of the club. They have been helpful by guiding the novice players that sometimes come with me in the procedures of the game so everyone has fun regardless of experience. In addition to the room manager there is always an employee there to assist players with chips, food runs, beverages etc... The owner goes the distance by providing complimentary beverages and often a great spread of food and snacks. Often there are trays of fajitas, lasagna or sandwiches for the members. Rounderz seems to be the place for late night poker action. As games break up in other places in town, everyone heads to Rounderz. I love this as I am a night owl! Other than poker there are many computer based slot style games which seem to be quite popular although that is not my thing so I am not reviewing that. In Corpus Christi there are several really nice cardrooms. The great thing is that it is well worth the drive for out-of-towners to come and visit our beautiful city and enjoy some of our wonderful poker games.

They pack a lot of gambling action into a small space, but not so much that it produces a cramped vibe. There are various slot-like machines on computers that pay out at random intervals, an event that patrons get very excited for, and also some other alternative gambling arcade-like games to play if slots are not your speed. I showed up to play poker, and they kick off the action with a rinky dink $20 re-buy tournament to promote action, and boy does it. After the brief tourney, cash games started and the action was very good. The owners of the establishment were polite and made sure I was comfortable at all times, since it was obvious I was not a local and even more obvious that I was the youngest one in the room by about 20 years. All in all, a solid place in my book and I will certainly return.

Texas Sand Fest in Port Aransas is an annual event. This was my first time actually getting to go…read moreinside the fenced event area, and I have to thank the city of Port A for that. They offer beach accessible wheelchairs free of charge for the disabled, and made it possible for me to enjoy the festival. There is a very long stretch of parking available, but I was happy to find that vehicles with a handicap placard can drop off disabled guests right near the entrance. We also purchased our tickets ahead of time, which was definitely the way to go, not only were the tickets cheaper but we were able to skip the long ticket line and head straight inside. One of the coolest things about Sand Fest is that the sculptors get three days to create their masterpieces. It's fun to visit each day and watch the sculptures take shape. The talent on display is incredible, and it's hard to believe what can be created from sand. They also have amateur competitions and also an area where kids can learn and try their hand at sand sculpting. There were tons of food trucks to choose from, along with drinks and alcohol available throughout the event. The entertainment stage is a huge area, and we were lucky enough to catch The Josh Abbott Band perform. There are both covered and uncovered seating areas, but the chairs fill up quickly, so get there early if you want one. The good news is you're allowed to bring your own chairs. I also enjoyed browsing the vendor booths, which had everything from artwork and furniture to jewelry, T-shirts, dresses, and plenty unique items. This was such a fun experience, and being able to access the event with a beach wheelchair made it possible. I'll definitely be back for Sandfest 2027.

That's saying a lot, since this is a tiny little museum. It is in a very nice modern building. But, the layout makes you feel like you're in a refurbished old house. It might just be me. Because it is so small, you feel like you need to read every little placard there is. Each one of them had something really interesting to add to our understanding of the island. I really enjoyed the posters with the Port Aransas timeline. I had no idea that Port Aransas was so recent in the scheme of Texas development. My favorite thing that I learned was that when the Civil War broke out, everyone deserted the island. How cool is that! I also liked reading about the hurricanes that ripped up the island and the special breed of people who made and make their homes there. If you're into fishing, you will love the display of fishing rods and fishing lures. They are displayed in one room very nicely. Bottom line... don't miss this museum. It is definitely worth your while.

Adaptive Reuse?! I am so impressed by the reuse of this space from an old concrete production plant…read more(?) to a music venue. The design of the space is noteworthy. First there are two stages. The smaller stage is housed within an old building that looks like a farm shed. The use of industrial materials that don't stray from the historical use and feel of the space is quite beautiful. Corrugated sheet metal is seen throughout the design and even within the restrooms to form stalls. Industrial ceiling fans keep the space cool along with garage door openings flanking 2 sides. There is an elevated platform along the back with small tables which is the VIP section. Picnic tables sit in front of the VIP section for a small section of seating. The liquor selection is limited, but the bartenders were friendly and willing to mix up what they could with the limitations. I had the pleasure of seeing one show here while in CC. I've been told that it is a great space to see larger acts especially when they perform at the bigger stage outside. All in all, this is a very hip space to see music. 5 stars is for adaptive reuse of a space CC, Texas. Very cool!
