I have had my credit bureau accounts locked for four years because of Equifax being hacked and I did not want to unlock them for any extended period of time. With Christian's assistance, 1st Bank required that I unlock only one. It was unlocked for less than a full day and someone who was involved in processing my application even called me as soon as my credit bureau report had been pulled so I could freeze my credit bureau report again! (Interestingly, I had applied at another bank with which I have an IRA and just got the round around, my time and energy wasted.) Excellent customer service makes a difference. Her emails were always very poorly written and typically contained horrible grammar. I had to read and reread almost every email to try to determine what her point was. All in all, it was a pretty smooth process, but they failed to use a federal program that would have saved us money. We only ended up finding out after we closed on the mortgage and it was too late. I feel like the lender dropped the ball. I understand that there are lots of different things that go into buying a home, especially on the lender side, but to miss a rather large money saving opportunity for a client seems irresponsible even if it was a mistake. Go with someone more thorough for your mortgage needs.
