This is a College Park staple! The funny thing is I've been here more times after I graduated than when I was a student like way back in the day! I'm glad they're still here. I know the pandemic hit so many businesses hard! During every homecoming weekend, my crew makes it our duty to come here. The vibe is always nice, drinks are good and cheap and the music is good. Firstly the food was TERRIBLE and ice cold not once but twice after we requested a Re-Fire and waiting almost 40 mins for it to arrive and they weren't busy at all My girlfriend got the smash burger which not only was cold but wasn't prepared as requested after being sent back twice. My wings are the only thing I will vouch for and actually weren't bad but still half of my order of 12 were cold . Secondly and honestly most importantly the atmosphere was OFF to say the least I actually witnessed several waitresses not want to serve me and my girlfriend... Don't get me wrong, it never really stopped me from going every once in awhile, but it was never my preference. Coming back to Cornerstone reminded me how this place is truly the quintessential college town bar. Sticky floors, plenty of drink specials, frat boys, top 40 hits, dirty bathrooms...very predictable. We ordered a quick bite here while we watched the game. The food, wasn't terrible, but was pretty standard bar fare. The beer battered fries that I nibbled off my friend's plate were awesome, but don't waste your calories on the nachos. They were soggy, salsa heavy and lacked flavor. If you're under the age of 23, you may still have a good time here. Just be mindful that when school is in session this place gets packed out and there will most likely be a cover at the door. read more

Lots of good happy hour specials, Sunday has the "Big Ass Beer" special (buy an actual glass mug/stein, a rarity these days of cheap plastic cups), and lots of people on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. There is a good mix of age ranges but on the aforementioned nights expect the crowd to run college age. Not a bad thing but just be aware. Staff is friendly and fun. The interior is basic wood, lots of TVs, neon beer signs, etc. They do have some outside seating. On game days the place gets packed. It goes without saying that this is a Maryland bar. Cornerstone, Cornerstone, CORNERSTONE!!! What a bar. Cheapest happy hour in the area. It was the first happy hour I officially went to when I turned 21 during my college years, and It also turned out to be my go-to for a long time. Their happy hour is from 12-8 everyday and they resume specials from 10:00 until closing. Their happy hour used to consist of $4 sandwiches w/ fries and $2 drinks. The specials after 10:00 would vary every day, usually being some sort of random shooters or liquor. Now they only seem to have drink specials, I don't recall hearing about the food when I last went. The environment is 100% college bar. It is nothing fancy, and when you go after you graduate you can easily tell that you aren't a student anymore. The first floor has a spacious bar and plenty of tables. The scene is the exact same upstairs, but during peak hours (especially during the college year) everyone goes up to dance. The floor gets sticky and people are everywhere. Though, if you're not in the mood to drink there are a couple of pool tables and plenty of TVs to watch for sports or what not. Aside from the $2 drinks, they have the best fries ever. They just look like regular fries, but there is some ingredient in them that makes them incredibly addictive. No one can do them like they can. The bread for their sandwiches and burgers was occasionally stale, however, which was disappointing whenever it happened. Thank goodness it wasn't often. Overall, this will become your favorite bar in College Park, especially if you're a student. Service/Cleanliness: I've been a regular at this bar for years now and always come here when I want to have a great time. Sean, Marcus, Chris, Ian, and Rick are my favorite bartenders! They make great drinks and add to my night out. For a college bar they keep it clean in here. Never smells, and bathrooms are pretty good until the end of the night of course. Food: Happy hour here is the best! $5 burgers, spinach dip, wings, and cajun chicken sandwich. Cornerstone is one of the best bars in downtown College Park, but only by comparison. Cornerstone used to be one of the hardest bars to get into- you had to be 21, have a really good fake, know a bouncer, or be a hot girl with a group of hot friends (no dudes). Their strictness was part of the reason they were a great bar- keeping out the obnoxious 17 year olds and having a good crowd. That is part of the reason they still have a pretty good rep, even if they don't deserve it anymore. Since Thirsty Turtle opened, they are a lot less strict on ID's. Hence, on weekend nights, you are lucky if you can even move. One Saturday night, it was so jam packed, it took me ten minutes to get from downstairs to the loft. Along the journey, I had at least 5 drinks splashed on me, was groped more times than I can count (intentional or unintentional... not sure), and lost several strands of hair that got caught on various people/objects. I hope there is never a fire here because people will be trampled to death. And you will be sober while being trampled (unless you pregamed hard enough) because getting to the bar is also impossible on nights like this. Last call is an experience in its own right. Once they physically kick everyone out, people have two options: 1) last ditch pick someone up and get laid or 2) make one more bad decision and get pizza at Ratsies. Oh, the possibilities. The bouncers are also an interesting bunch. I remember one time, cover was $5 I was two bucks short. I told him I would tip my bartender an extra $2 on my card to make up for the difference. The bouncer didn't care and told me to go to the ATM and take out money. Why on earth would I pay a $3 ATM fee (downtown CP needs a Wachovia, badly) to take out money to pay $2 cover when I am going to buy drinks inside? I was able to bum $2 off a friend, but still... I was blown away by the level of douchebaggery. I must give Cornerstone some credit on their food- if you are going to eat at any of the bars, this is the place to go. Their beer battered french fries are amazing! Big Ass Drafts are one of my favorite parts about cornerstone. They are a Sunday staple! You bring your cornerstone mug and get a cheap draft while watching whatever game is on. It's a fun way to spend a Sunday. Be sure to go early on "big game" Sundays, it gets packed! The service is alright. Although I had a waitress one time who could not divide up a bill properly. Our group tried to explain to her for about 5 minutes straight and she could not comprehend it. (there was an issue with tipping on the cards) It reminded me of the Fishsticks episode of South Park- "Get it, man. Why won't you just get it??" All in all, pay your cover, get cheap drinks, maybe felt up a little. Despite the issues with the place, when faced with the other bar choices, Cornerstone usually wins. read more

I was treated absolutely horribly here by some waitress. Apparently I was standing in a wrong section of the bar when I was waiting to get a drink. She aggressively told me I wasn't allowed to be there and when I asked why she wouldn't tell me. She simply could've given me a reason and I happily would have moved. Instead when I refused to move she had a bouncer PICK ME UP and carry me out of the establishment. It was a horrible and traumatizing experience. I have no idea what they think gives them the right to treat a human being like that. Yes maybe I should've moved when she told me I wasn't allowed to be where I was, but I really did not understand why and she was being so aggressive- she also didn't get the bouncer to tell me to move she just had the bouncer remove me. A fun hang out spot for college students in College Park but that's pretty much what makes it so popular around here. The drinks are a bit watered down, or less flavorful than you'd want which is disappointing. However, they do have good bar food. The spinach and artichoke dip, buffalo chicken dip, and mac and cheese bites are all personal favorites. They're great to munch on when you're out with your friends. There's two floors to CStone and pre corona, lots of people would love going up top to hang out but it would definitely get congested and stuffy real quick. I have lots of memories at CStone and I hold it near to my heart as do other Marylanders, but a lot of that is probably because of its openness to the college crowd. read more

This is the quintessential college bar that has gone a step further by adding a ton of TVs, an upstairs that is great for Sunday football viewing, and an expanded menu. I stopped in to see a friend from high school after 13 long years, but as soon as I walked in I was flooded with memories of my time in college. It just has that feel. However, my fears were unfounded because it was a really great place to watch the first Sunday of NFL football. I scoffed at the notion that the "Scorcher Wings" would really be hot, and I regretted my skepticism because they were really fucking hot. We just had the wings and spinach-artichoke dip, but there were a lot of items on the menu. This may not be the kind of place where I'd want to hang out on a Friday or Saturday night - too old for that stuff now - but they have my vote for a great game day experience. read more

I love Cornerstone! Great music, amazing drink deals and the bartenders and staff are super friendly. I've been here a few times, on dates and with friends, always a good time. I have yet to be unhappy about my experience. The bartender made me and my friend special drinks just for sitting at the bar chatting with him, so awesome. I had fried shrimp here one night since I needed food before a hard night of drinking (hey, I'm in college). It was really good and the fries were awesome. If you're down for cheap drinks, solid food and a fun and young atmosphere then check out Cornerstone! There are three bars that are closest to South Campus where a lot of students tend to live -- Cornerstone, Bentley's and Terrapin's Turf. Cornerstone is the "classier" bar out of the three. I went to UMD so I had plenty a drunken nights here and always had a good time. My favorite nights to come were definitely Sundays where they had Drafts night. You can purchase one of their "Big Ass Drafts" mug and then get cheap drink deals. It was always entertaining to me to see students walking down Route 1 with their mugs in hand on Sunday nights. It was definitely a great spot to watch Sunday night football. They also hand out raffle tickets on football nights and if they call your number you win a jersey of one of the teams playing! As for food, its pretty standard bar fare. I'm obsessed with their sweet potato fries. They dust them with cinnamon sugar and they are BOMB! The last time I came I ordered the link sandwich and it was surprisingly really good! It was pesto chicken with red peppers, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and onions on a brioche bun. Parking: walk if you can. If not, there's a paid parking lot (the one with CVS and Starbucks) across the street and a garage kind of behind Cornerstone on Knox and Yale. Both are free after 10 pm and all day on Sundays, otherwise .75 cents an hour I believe. read more

Yes, it is nice to tip, but nobody owes you anything. Stop bullying people into tipping you. Good service within the staff. Went to Happy hour with some friends to eat, and left still somewhat hungry because the portions here are smaller than expected. I ordered the buffalo chicken burger with tator tots as a side and waited for approximately 15-20 minutes, even though the place wasn't packed. My husband and I stopped by here yesterday afternoon for a late lunch. We were familiar this place because we came here before during the weekend and they had pretty average prices for drinks. We decided to give them a try for food. I ordered the buffalo chicken tenders and my husband ordered the plain chicken tenders. Our bartender was great, she was by herself and still maintained everybody at the bar and made sure everyone had their drinks. The reason for only giving 3 stars, is that it did take a while to get our food. A couple of drivers came in who worked for Uber Eats and I heard her tell them that the kitchen is backed up and they wouldn't tell her a time frame and kept kicking her out of the kitchen. I do believe this because I have been a server before and while it is important to check on your food and find a status for your customers, the kitchen will still just ignore you or not tell you anything, so if that really was the case, I think the kitchen should have better communication with their staff or maybe get a manager involved. When we did receive our food, my french fries were very hot so it seemed like they just got done cooking them, however my chicken tenders in the buffalo sauce were cold as if they had been sitting there in the kitchen for a while waiting on the fries or something. I didn't complain or say anything to the bartender because I know it wasn't her fault and she was trying so hard to help us and find out times for the Uber eats drivers. Overall, I think this place is a great place for some cheap drinks and bar food. I just think that in the future, if a server or bartender is checking on their food for their customers, the kitchen should be able to give them a time. If some reason they don't have a time, the manager should probably walk around to the tables and let them know what is going on, I feel that is the least they can do. Again, our bartender was excellent, she was very prompt with our drinks and always made sure our drinks were filled and we were doing okay, so nothing bad to say about her :) read more
