I will limit my observation to the willingness of middle and senior level staff to treat my parents with respect, listening carefully to what they say and working diligently to craft solutions that work. We recently presented them with some unusual problems. They came together, worked outside the box and creatively, energetically, proactively turned a family crisis into a little oasis of safety and calm. I'll let others talk about the normal day to day routines that make a place like this a home for our honored parents and loved ones. And it's all good, believe me. But, when we needed help ... they were there. Impressive. That's a sign of deep corporate cultural health.

I was one of the early residents of their villas, and they were initially a great improvement to the facility. I felt the facility fully deserved a five-star rating. However while the staff is still outstanding, the quality of services has degraded. It seems that they added over fifty villas to the facility but failed to increase the kitchen size, the transportation support, and likely some of the staffing needs to maintain the high standards of three years ago.

It's evident the moment you walk in, and it's bright and welcoming. Where else can a medicaid recipient have their own studio apartment, not shared with anyone? I know of no other assisted living facility who offers that. It's one of the benefits of being mission driven and not for profit. Care and humanity can remain at the forefront rather than profit.

When you do finally speak with an employee they basically say it's the resident (family member) causing any or all issues that may arise. There is ZERO accountability on the facilities end. The finger is pointed at the resident for many different reasons, some may be concerning but then again, those go without being addressed as well. Favoritism runs high. Be careful your mother or father may be the nurse or the activities directors favorite today but tomorrow the communication may suddenly be cut off , leaving your loved one to wonder what they did wrong. Emails, phone calls, text messages go days sometimes weeks unanswered. In my case not at all from the resident services director when we were in the process of moving my mother. December 17th I left a message. To this day I have not received a return phone call. How is that acceptable. Don't bother calling the CEO. His assistant is his assistant. My phone call was not taken seriously and the return message was as if nothing had been talked about. So disappointing. They will defend whatever they see fit when it comes to staff. To me, anything that concerns me about my mother, I should be able to get a prompt answer and in my opinion the place that is in charge of her daily care, should show a little more compassion and empathy and urgency to have addressed those concerns.. You will not get that here. All of this comes from the top and is a domino effect as to how things are run. They follow their lead and it's obvious that the concern is just not there. Like I mentioned, Unless your loved one is favored and or well liked. Otherwise the care is subpar. If your loved one is difficult like mine, expect the blame for any issues to be shifted in that direction. Assumption does not and will not take responsibility for any mistakes or mishaps that may occur on their end. This is everywhere at Assumption. Somehow my 86 years old mother was able to hide and hoard medications. 2 bottles full of pills. I believe that shows serious lack of care and is potentially very dangerous. The corporate office ignored this subject as if I had made it up. NO follow up, no follow through on this subject at all. Ignored completely. Reception is rude, The website still has the mothers day greeting from 2020, why??? There are no activities going on. Communication is lacking greatly and we moved my mom out in December and were left with a very bad taste in our mouths. I could go on and on but I think you get the gist. I would not recommend Assumption village to anyone looking for a new home and needing to be cared for by someone else. Please take the time to do your research before signing a contract here. Moving a loved one into a facility is a very big decision that should not betaken lightly and needs to be researched, If you are looking for somewhere they will be treated well and you as a family member will feel in the loop as to what is going on, this is not the place for your mother or father. I had zero experience when I got the job, but Erin saw something in me and pushed me to do better. I would love to attribute the love I have for what I do now, in some part, to her. Erin brings humor and a familial feel to her team, every day you go into work, it feels like you're welcome...trust me when I say, that feeling helps drive others to do the best they can. Our residents are the reason we are where we are, Erin made certain we did everything we could to respect them and their dignity, she wasn't one of those ED's who sat glued behind her desk either, Erin was on the floor interacting with her team and the population we all serve far more than she was in the office. One of the hardest firsts a caregiver has is the first passing of a resident, Erin was there for mine and she went well above and beyond to help me deal with the loss of that resident. I am a better manager because of the work I did with Erin, Emmerson House is lucky to have her, their community flourishes under her leadership.

Do not move your loved one here! My wife worked for them just recently!…read more They never have enough staff, The staff constantly calls out! Family's clothes constantly come up missing, family's are calling about it all the time! Meals are horrible-always cold They are constantly losing love ones hearing aids and they never brush their teeth! A lot of staff goes to their car and smokes and comes back in the building and on the weekends you can't find no staff anywhere!!! They leave the urine clothes in the rooms so when you come to visit your loved ones the smell is horrible!!!

She's been very happy there and loves all the staff who seem so kind and loving. Our favorite is Mercedes and her daughter Lana. They work really hard to provide many stimulating activities for the residents. My mom is just about to turn 98 and I feel at peace with her being at Cherrywood.

I also want to note that their meals are not expensive. Some people prefer quantity over quality. Your safest bets are the salads, avocado toast, soups, and fruit bowls. Part of my frustration with Cherrywood is that its a retirement home and the residents don't have a choice where to eat most days. At least this is true for those who can't easily travel. So the meals should be appetizing and inviting. There is a culinary director but somehow he claims to not be involved in culinary matters. I want that job. However, one would think the culinary director would offer to forward your concerns. This doesn't happen. The culinary director is NOT the chef. The chef and his staff try really hard. You usually won't find the culinary director. I don't see him helping when there is a rush, he has never greeted me or seated us where there is a line, and I assume he is usually in his office. One does see him on the family events. So he isn't totally invisible. Sounds like Cherrywood needs a culinary director who is responsible for improving the dining experience in their restaurant willing to greet guests. As stated before, Cherrywood caters to 7th Day Adventists and they are vegetarian. Their vegetarian selections are hopefully getting better. They were not really good before. The worst meal I had there was at the last Thanksgiving. That veggie meal included two slices of fake turkey. Think bologna or spam for Thanksgiving. As a comparison one of their competitors offers a nice salmon dinner every day as an option. Cherrywood offers this maybe once a week. Just saying other retirement homes offer better food services. I hope things get better.

When first interviewing the place, we were told there is a doctor who comes every Monday. When we met the doctor, he was clear to us that he is a nurse who has a doctorate in nursing. He was honest. The Quarry continues to refer to him as a doctor and even a primary care doctor. A federal court case out of California clearly ruled that this is illegal because it is misleading. The Quarry should stop referring to this wonderful nurse as a "Doctor".

Even checked out residences in other cities (LA and Seattle) that had rave reviews and were recommended by "fussy" friends. The Stafford was without comparison and the choice we made. Living here fulfills every need we thought we might have at this stage of our active, happily retired lives and comes as close to living in an upscale hotel (with a very nice apartment) as you're going to find. The staff is amazing, the ambiance is warm, the decor is more like a classy home than any other place we looked into. As for the restaurant, my husband and I are much less likely to feel the need to go out to Manzana's, Stanfords, etc when we'd like a nice meal in a nice place with good service. The quality of the food is comparable to other local dining spots with pricing that is not quite a steep....and there is no comparison to other retirement community we've visited either in the Portland area or elsewhere. As I said....our occasional trips out for a "nice dinner" or lunch...heck, or even breakfast are much fewer than before we lived here. Since the dining room and cafe are open to the public I encourage friends to dine here (yes, even without me along!) because there just might not be a better value around....and a great meal. As for the quality and speed of service...it might help to remember that this is not a stand alone restaurant that relies heavily on table/customer turn over to survive financially. The staff is attentive, pleasant and seem sincerely interested in making sure you have a good experience and when it's all said and done (or is that eaten and done??) we pretty much always leave happy that we made the choice to dine...and to live here. Bottom line....the quality of life here, the staff, the restaurant and cafe, the vitality center, the cleanliness, the car and driver for local trips, the actives and the overall environment make this a place we are very happy and proud to call home.

When she reconsidered and gave them over a month's notice PRIOR TO HER MOVE IN DATE, they refused to refund her money, even though she agreed to paying the portion that was for updating the unit (benefits that The Stafford got for FREE at her expense). I'm checking into reporting this company. My father was a veteran injured in the war and my mother took care of him for years, and this is the shoddy treatment she received from this obviously FOR-PROFIT-AT-ANY-COST company. Our elderly population (many of whom have worked hard all their lives and served our country) deserves better than being taken advantage of by shady, irresponsible, and heartless people like the ownership/management at The Stafford Lake Oswego, 1200 Overlook Drive, Lake Oswego, OR 97034.

Believe me, you NEED Brenda with her many years of experience as you DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW. She gave us advice that we didn't even know we needed. She even suggested Whitewood Gardens which we checked out first. Sure enough, it was a smaller 39 bed assisted living unit and privately owned, not corporate owned like the place my Mom just moved from. What a difference! So Brenda was professional, kind, very caring, extremely knowledgable and even had the perfect place for Mom as her first suggestion! What more do you need?
