The cakes were all homemade fresh and presented with cream in a little cow jug I asked if I could buy one she said yes. My American friends loved the scones and were asked to join her facebook maxine mansfield london which I thought was a lovely touch. They now feel part of the cafe even though they are back in Florida. We had a huge pot of tea for three of us so heavy I could hardly lift it with my weak wrists that was the only complaint. A little, quaint shop on the high street. On walking in I had to wait at the counter 10mins to have a table pointed out where I could sit. Finally we served to find out that they don't even serve devonshire teas (scone, jam, cream & a cup of tea)! I asked if they didnt serve this as the norm, I'd pay extra to have some jam & cream, but they said they couldnt do that. Despite coming out of the front counter & requiring no preparation, the scone took 20mins to arrive at my table- 2m away. It was the driest, hardest I have ever had. .When I pointed this out to the lady serving, she didnt appologise, but just said thats how they are. Maybe we were there on a bad day, but that staff seemed too busy to care & the scones are dreadful.

Understandable in this cold weather. Walking through a shop full of ice creams and sweeties was difficult not to buy something but we were here for a coffee. The tearoom was upstairs. A small room used to its full advantage. Jazz memorabilia adorned the walls as did an extensive menu. Coffee was brilliant in the form of a cafetiere for two at, I will admit, a silly cheap price. We will return in the future to try out some of those delicious items on the menu board.
