This is my favourite chill out place. This place holds so many memories, I learnt to properly play pool here, I've had a fair few pool competitions with friends here and no matter at what time we came, the staff were so polite and helpful. There is a snooker hall in the back which had roughly 6 tables and the Pool Hall when you enter has roughly 10 (possibly more) tables. It is easy to find off the main street and it is up a flight of stairs. There is a bar there which always had a good selection of beers on tap as well as a few spirits and bottled beer. The food was good considering and I remember the kitchen being open till late many times which is always a good thing. Next time I am in Derby, I would love to go back here and play a game of pool.

The atmosphere is lively and upbeat with a jukebox, several TV's all showing different channels and a real mixture of people in the place (Our group consisted of some old fuddy duddies like me and some well behaved kids!). The pool tables are in excellent condition and after we finished with ours, the guy behind the bar came out and cleaned it, I don't think I've ever seen that happen anywhere else! There are some other activities that we did't get time to try like Snooker and Darts and there are also some quiz machines and even Jenga if that appeals to you. We found the prices to be reasonable and managed to get a pool table for the entire evening for around £16. Slim Jims caters for a mixture of modern and old world tastes and I'll make sure I visit again next time I'm in the UK!

And thankfully Nottingham is no exception…read more The formula stays the same in this one as in any other I have visited - good long bar, one huge screen, plus a dozen or so smaller screens scattered around for those sporting events you want to catch. There is also an upstairs area at this one, but this tends to only open when the place is very busy, so not regularly opened up as the downstairs is normally big enough to cope with demand. There is also the chance to get a few reasonably priced drinks in this bar too compared with others in Nottingham. Certain days and times have offers on, but even without them I would say drinks are fairly priced. If you come here for the night then it tends to be a place where quite a few people choose to end up. Music is never going to rival the clubs of Ibiza, but once you have had a few beers then singing along to the old favourites will be just perfect.

The Worm Has Turned (and, yes, that *is* the bar's full moniker) is a new bar for foreign - i.e…read more mostly continental European - beers that opened late in 2019. Although Derby is already one of the best places for having a good beer in the country, The Worm provides a notable and welcome addition. Upon my visit in February of 2020, it provides six pumps for beers (including a British one, Beaver Town from London) plus a cider (Aspall), along with a healthier selection of bottled and canned (real) ales from Belgium, Germany , etc. A few of those can be considered craft ales, but there are mass-produced beers too (like Ayinger or Paulaner). It's a particularly good place for German and Belgian wheat beers, as the British themselves seem to be curiously unable to quite capture the authentic character of that style - and I've tried many British wheat beers over the years. Atmosphere is nice and *quiet* even on a Saturday evening, when you can hear the kerfuffle from a Spoon from a mile away. Stylish, friendly place, pleasant clientele and staff. Recommended as a specialist beer bar in Derby!
