Whilst appearing to be a small premium wine bottle shop, Seddon Wine Store is best experienced as a…read morecasual 'wine by the glass' meeting point. The venue, with seating at high tables of 4, is quiet and intimate which is refreshing after noisy restaurants and bars - conversation flows easily whilst your eyes wander over the wall of fine wine imagining all the possibilities. The knowledgeable advice is also a highlight as staff here really do know their product whether it's Presecco or Piedmont they're quick to offer valuable advice to help you with your selection. A delicious selection of cold tasting plates are also on offer. Cheeses, olives, pates, cold meats and white anchovies are presented skillfully to complement the wine. Give it a try!

The others are those chain store everything-but-nothing kind of places with cask wine, a lot of beer and premade shooters. Seddon Wine Store is to alcohol what a gallery is to art. Basically, it's small but thoughtful. They cover a range of price points, but they don't have mainstream over-advertised hangovers in a bottle. The owner, Simon, is often in the store and knows his stuff. He's always available for a chat and to dish some advice but isn't a vino snob. Most pleasantly of all, Seddon Wine Store now has an itty bitty wine bar located inside. Just a few tables, but goodness knows they have a great wine list to choose from, and some fabulous little things to munch on (think wagyu salami and nuts and whatnot). The biggest problem I can think of in fact, is that Seddon Wine Store is located directly between my house and the newsagent.

What a fantastic bottle shop!…read more They claim to have a beer from every country but I don't know. Either way, their wall of international and local beers is impressive. I've tried to get a different one every time I go in there but there are a lot to get through. Challenge accepted! It's a bit of an icon this bottle shop as it sits at the entrance to Acland St where it's always some friendly folk working there and, surprisingly, with so many imported beers, the prices are very good. With specials-a-plenty you will no doubt walk out a happy customer.

Again, this is one of those shops i have frequented over the years, sampling a fair amount of their stock. and with good measure. It has a great array of beers from simpleton bogan brews (here's looking at you pure blond, vb, and Carlton draught) to more exclusive, boutique high quality beers. One may also venture into some great and not widely available ciders; I highly recommend the Harcourt apple cider. The stock has quite a slow change over from time to time, and what is available differs slightly seasonally. There's always a strong selection from England, Japan, Germany, and Australia. It's also worth, if not for the intrigue, but sheer volume alone, the beer wall. This is stocked with many beers you've probably never heard of before. There's also some great spirits El patron tequila, Zubrowka Vodka, are prime example among many others. A bottle shop for a great gift idea.

Defender of thesmall under represented wineries and small scale…read morewine producers. Cloudwine stocks the labels from wineries that you wouldn't usually find elsewhere. Although some are about, Cloudwine isn't necessarily about big names and well known brands; instead the focus is on regional wine of Australia, with the lmore botigue and smaller labels on the shelves. Wine is sectioned into regional specificity and within these you can find particular wine types. E.g Morington, King Valley, Heathcote, Beechworth, Henty, Gippsland, Barrosa, Mclaren Vale/Eden valley, Grampians, etc. Cloudwine has weekly wine specials; great wines atdiscounted price. Muscat from a barrel, Barossa Shiraz, Pinots, Spanish wines, Whites have all been offered as a special with a bragain price. They sell pretty good beers here too. The beer selection has changed somewhat over the years from being Belguim/European focused, to now more all rounded. Including Australia. Sierra-Nevada brews on the shelves too. These beers all the rage at the moment. And prevelant throughout Melbourne. Prince wine store is just around the corner, you're spoilt for choice. Cloudwine may be smaller but offers an affordable, solid, well selected collection of wine. Which can be used as offerings for dinner parties, wine get together's, gifts, and all manner of other occasions involving social wine. Picnics even. You're sure to pick some great finds. All you have to do is seek.

They sell good wine by the dozen, and cheaply, and take pride in the fact that you won't have to drop much to come away with a six pack of Cab Sav. While they'll have a large range of interesting wines (even including a Chinese plum wine, last time I was there), they're not necessarily ideal if you're after anything but wine. Price of specilization, I guess.

Well, I was going to say that I thought that a bottle shop with a bar was going to be cool, but…read morethen again there are a lot of places like that, it is just that the bottle shop tends to be next door, though it isn't always actually a part of the bar. Anyway, this place was still pretty good because you go buy and have here, and just take away, and I'm not sure if the prices were all that different either (it is usually more expensive to consume the liquor on-premises). Oh, and they have a pretty awesome selection of beers as well, so I'll definitely give it that.

There's quite a few wine bars in Melbourne that have a bottle shop selection with corkage option,…read morebut St Kilda Cellars is nothing like that at all. It looks like your average bottle shop. Fridges lining the walls, stacks of beer cartons all over the place. But to the side of the store stretches a bar where you can sit down and have a drink - most likely beer or spirits. To give you a picture of the clientele, think a mix of backpackers, kids that just got their first ID and the usual crazies that haunt Fitzroy Street. My idea of fun? Absolutely not. But I'm not going to give it 1 stars because for the many visitors that it attracts, it's right up their alley. If you're looking for a dirt cheap night out, want to relive your drinking tales at dive bars in Thailand, or just somewhere to duck in and pick up a few beers on the way to somewhere else, this will do the job.
