Outdoor seating on French Church Street
James K.

Cork Coffee Roasters have expanded beyond Bridge Street by opening this second branch on French Church Street. The smell of freshly roasted coffee is very inviting. It's a busy spot so you may have trouble finding a seat. No Wi-Fi. I had a flat white and berry tart for €5.50. Coffee (their medium roast "Rebel City" espresso blend) was small, pretty strong, with nice dense flat white foam. Most coffees cost around €2.50. They roast the coffee themselves and it's quite well done, but on the dark side compared to third wave roasters from places like Portland and San Francisco. Staff members were busy but very efficient and polite. There's an interesting little cubby at back with red lighting, and also outdoor seating on French Church Street - a cute, busy lane near Rory Gallagher place. The tart (€3) was fresh and very substantial - delicious berries and a crunchy oat topping. They sell coffee beans in the usual foil bags - it's a pity they didn't go with compostable paper-based bags considering they are a local small operation. I'm giving them 2/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact for now (until owner provides more info). I've spent a couple of hours searching for information on their coffee sourcing policies but have come up with very little. On their website they say "We use only the best Premium Coffee Beans available." Alas, this means nothing on its own. Here are some pros and cons: Pro: For those taking coffee to go, they deliver drinks without a lid, thus reducing waste a little bit. Cons: I could find no information to suggest that they pay above-market prices for green coffee beans or otherwise support coffee farmers. There is also no information (or certifications) to suggest that any of the coffee is organic or shade grown (etc.) Their coffee bean packaging is not eco-friendly. Barista hourly wage is reported (on Glassdoor) at around €9 - around minimum wage. Hopefully the owners can update or correct this with new information. Interested in writing green star reviews? Delighted to find all day brunch in Tralee and not only that but they had matcha latte on the menu…read moreand my favourite, eggs Benedict. It was all so good. The eggs cooked perfectly and the service was excellent. Friendly and efficient. I perfect brunch in Tralee highly recommended

We walked by and the coffee smelt so good, decided to do our last breakfast in Tralee here…read more I stuck with my usual of the full Irish and got: - Ashes Sausage: this was darn tasty - Ashes white pudding: if Chicken Pate and Chicken sausages had a love child, this would be it - so good and creamy! Best white pudding eaten on the trip so far! - Killorglin smoked bacon: smoky and crispy and oh so good. My co-diners ordered extra!! - Jack McCarthy black pudding: I tried to take a pic of the ruby-red and purple colour and failed. It was elegant and lovely. - Ardfert free range eggs: the richness and yellow yolks were divine - grilled tomato: decent, might be weakest part of the brekkie - tomato chutney: I licked this clean and got seconds. Perfect blend of spices, onions, tomatoes and sultanas. I would just go and get this and eat it with good Irish cheddar cheese - toast: two different varieties and crisp - freshly roasted filter coffee: fantastically light roast. All for €9,95!! This was the first full Irish breakfast I ate where I walked up and felt perfectly full but not stuffed. The Roast House has my vote for the #1 Irish breakfast in Tralee with Yummy Cafe as #2. We also got tempted by their desserts and the Walnut coffee cake was divine! It had properly fresh cream frosting, whipped light as air, moist cake and we demolished it plus took cappuccino to go. Absolutely recommend and would go again when/if in Tralee again! Note: #275 of Yelp 100 challenge for 2016

Piccolo Pizza - Garlic bread

The crusts were nice and soft inside but crusty outside. It's too bad the pasta dishes were not as great. The pasta sauce tasted like it was from a can. If you ever are in Killarney Ireland and have a craving for pizzas, Piccolo is it!

The people working here (possibly the owners?) are so friendly and sweet and were willing to make accommodations for dietary restrictions. I got the champignone pizza with no ham and my partner got the vegetarian pizza. We also finished with a tiramisu. The food came out super quickly and we got to watch it be baked in the oven. The dough was so fresh and crispy and the toppings were fresh and delicious. I loved my pizza so much and was sad when it was gone. We also got some garlic oil and fresh Parmesan to drizzle on top which only elevated the pizzas more. The tiramisu was heavenly and was exactly what I am craving when I'm craving tiramisu. The restaurant is small but cozy, off the Main Street a little so it's not too loud with the door open. There are five tables inside and a bar area along the wall so plenty of seating to choose from. Many people stopped in to order takeaway or called for delivery while we were here so it's clear they're popular. I loved eating here and would definitely come back. If you want some local pizza, go here!
