TEN [10] months ago we contracted with this firm to build us a Trex deck…read more "AJ" built us a rock-solid deck that we are nearly completely pleased with the exceptions of several 'accessory' items. 1. The ground cover that they recycled does not go end-to-end. [see hose door] 2. There is absolutely no ground cover installed under the expansive step that was requested and built. 3. The hose door - built in order that there would be no unsightly garden hose laying on or around the deck. The closing mechanism is amateur PLUS, when inside, the hose lays on dirt...the ground cover does not extend to the outside edge of the deck. The most frustrating part of the above problems was/is that the owner made no attempt to re-visit the site in order to offer some correction to them but, rather, chose to debate and argue about whether or not we were correct in our observations. We have waited for contact from the company for TEN months [there is a 2-year labour warranty that is totally useless unless the persons involved in the construction make the effort to come to the site, view the problems, and make some effort to correct same]. After reviewing other customers observations it will come as no surprise to read a series of excuses from the principal of the company but, rest assured, what has been written above is factual and true. If any potential customer of this company is so interested...upon contact...I will invite them to our home to see the finished product. Repeating the initial statement ... a very solid deck was built...the custom features coupled with an attempt by the company to minimize cost [ground cover], and argue rather than repair forces us them give them a middle-range rating. Be certain that everything is in writing with sketches and photos.

Worst contractors I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with…read more Hired Deck Experts to built a modest-sized deck patio cover, aluminum with tinted glass roof, 8'x12'. The end product looks fine, but the total lack of professionalism made me regret hiring these guys. The workers left a mess and damaged property, without saying anything, and we received no apology from them. After being blown off in early May, I decided to leave the project until next year, but in mid-August, the company owner emailed back asking if I was still interested. I (now regretfully) said sure. Here's' my experience...I met with the owner, Darryl G. we were then emailed a quote of $2465+tax for the 8'X12' (96 sq ft) project. We gave it the green light. We were sent an email to prepay a 50% deposit at the local CIBC, which I thought was a bit strange. I was a bit hesitant. Normally, every contractor I've worked with gets a cheque the day they show up to start a project. And, they pick up a cheque and deposit it into their own bank. We went ahead hoping our money wasn't just gone with the wind. This should have been a red flag 2 weeks after our deposit, workers appeared on the back deck and started work...no phone call notification, no knock on the door even? Also of note, the company owner was not present...just two second-rate hired hands. (Who I vetted to do the job is not who I got. Very misleading). It didn't take long, maybe two hours, for installation. They vanished. No knock on the door to say they were done? My deck was covered in aluminum cuttings/shards, bolts/screws, dirt/gunk from the gutters they cut away, and even exact-o blade bits. Not cool. Also, a large flower planter was smashed on my back patio. I would have expected a knock and apology. And clean up! Unbelievably, I discovered that the workers used my patio furniture as sawhorses to cut metal posts. Unacceptable. Only two of three quoted support posts were installed. I quickly sent emails to the owner and advised them of my issues. He replied to say "he'll talk to them" about the clean up. He also said that the third support post was deemed unnecessary with the installation of a supposedly heftier beam. When this decision was made is beyond me. The price was "unaffected." Any modification to a quote should be made in writing to inform customers...otherwise it leaves them wondering if they're getting what they paid for...that should be normal practice for all industries. Better to keep the customer in the loop than not. Note: completely ignored my broken planter situation. I know it was intact before they showed up. Grrr. If you're looking for great attention to detail and customer service, this is not the place for you. Honestly, if they hadn't of left it messy and broken my planter, I wouldn't be upset. (If they had addressed the broken pot and apologized upfront, I wouldn't be as upset). C'est la vie. I'm left feeling like I don't matter, probably because in Deck Experts' world, I don't. After a barrage of emails, and then cc-ing the owner's accountant/wife, I finally received an email apology. He "said" he fired the guys that did my install without having seen the work/damage in person. I also was offered a small discount for my labour to clean up THEIR mess, with my own shop vac., and the cost of replacing my broken planter. One final note, I withheld paying the balance since they forgot to bolt one of the support beams to the roof (would that pass code?) properly. It took 2 weeks to get someone to fix this?? I wish someone had posted any feedback about this company. There is no way this is their first debacle. I would have avoided them like the plague.

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY! This company did not provide the services I paid for, has kept my…read moremoney and has failed to respond to a court action to retrieve my money That's the short version. The long story is below. I read the reviews and thought I'd picked a winner here. I'm happy to hear that others have had a good experience. Unfortunately mine has been very different. Different enough to warn you about. I had Fadhil give me a quote for a truck rack back in March. I had to drive all the way out to his shop in PoCo to drop off my deposit because he's not set up for credit/debit and doesn't do e-transfers. I said I needed it asap, because my busy season was coming up. I tried to get in for the fitting but it was put off. After nearly 3 weeks of not hearing back, I called them to find out what was going on. I didn't get a response so I called again. Still nothing. Then I emailed. Finally I got a reply. I was told the materials were on order and they'd let me know when they'd be ready for installation. By this time I'm getting busy at work and need that rack. Weeks go by and I hear nothing. By the time late June rolls around, I've had it. It's too busy at work to bring the truck in now. I ask for my money back. Again I have to contact them multiple times by phone and email over several weeks to follow up on getting my money back. After numerous delays, I was told they were just cutting the cheque, then that the cheque was in the mail. Well the cheque was in the mail for three weeks. The receptionist swore up and down that they mailed it when they said they did and that it was just taking a really long time to get to me. She even told me that they'd sent cheques to other companies that same day and they didn't arrive for two weeks! When I finally got my cheque, Fadhil had deducted $124.70 for materials and there was a Post-it Note saying to call before cashing the cheque. I called and was told not to cash the cheque until the next day or later so they could have the proper funds in the account. (Something you think you'd do before sending the cheque!) I followed instructions only to find out that the cheque had bounced and my bank had charged me $5 for the NSF. As this matter escalated, I repeatedly asked to be called back about things. I first asked the receptionist to call me back. This happened several times and not once did she do so even after I brought it to her attention that she kept saying she would return my calls but never did. After this happened a few times, I asked speak directly with Fadhil. The receptionist would say he'd call me back and then I repeatedly didn't hear back. Finally I insisted on getting his number to speak with him directly. After a lot of excuses, Fadhil's receptionist told me that she wasn't allowed to give me his phone number! I explained that the cheque had bounced and that this was getting into legal territory and I needed him to call me back for real. She promised up and down he'd call me back in two minutes, which she'd promised before. I got off the phone and, as usual, he never called me back. This whole episode has been very disappointing. It's also alarming because Fadhil has nearly $900 of mine and I can't get anyone from his company to contact me about this. As it stands now, I've had little choice but to file a small claims action since I haven't heard back about my deposit. The owner has simply ignored the claim so I am escalating the legal action. Obviously it was a huge mistake and a waste of a lot of time and energy going with Fadhil. I trusted him to come through based on the reviews posted here, but good reviews obviously don't guarantee that things like this won't happen. Don't make the same mistake I did. There are other companies to go to if you're wanting metal fabrication. I can't vouch for them but I can certainly warn you about Urban Metals. Run!

They use the cheapest quality materials on their builds and have people working that are so poorly trained you will wonder how a company like this can even stay in business. I have had a deficiencies list 5 pages long and for the better part of two years only things that involved a bit of paint would they fix. They redid my border tile in my bathroom only to break more of the main tiles. My kitchen cabinets have been crooked and discolored for two years now and home warranty had to ban them from coming back and bring in their own crew. one of my toilets broke after a year and when i pulled it out to see what was wrong it was so crooked underneath its amazing no one was killed. The city compelled them to replace sidewalks and curbs through out the neighbourhood due to poor cement quality.
