I just got discharged today after a two week stay at this facility. Having spent a lot of time in…read morehospitals over the past year and dealing with other rehab facilities a few years ago, I believe I can give a good review of this facility. First, the facility itself. Everything was clean and well maintained. The rehab equipment was all first class. While the food was not exactly 5 star quality, I had no complaints whatsoever. I would say that I enjoyed 99% of everything they served. There was nothing wrong with the other 1%; it just didn't please my palate. I have a good appetite, and I was satisfied with the portion sizes. Unlike other hospitals, the meals were virtually all served on time. Now, the staff. Every therapist I worked with was outstanding. These included Sarah, Dennis, Miguel, Rudy, Edwin, and Carmine. As far as the care, the vast majority were great. I missed a few of their names, but the standouts were Caroline, Karen, Chenemun (?), and Olaniyi. A few of the night staff left a bit to be desired, but the rest of the staff were outstanding. The physicians were all caring and attentive. You won't go wrong if you choose this facility for your rehab.

I put down the money for her stay after being told by Daniella that I would be refunded after her Medicare kicked in. As promised Medicare began paying for her stay on the second day. She passed away 2 weeks after her stay so I was busy with arrangements and grief. I called Texas Rehab 3 weeks after her death and they told me my refund would take a while to process which I understood. It has now been 5 months and I have not gotten my refund of over $11,000 and all the people I was working with have left the company. No one seems to know anything about anything. If you decided to stay at this facility make sure about the payment arrangements before agreeing.

I want everyone to know the truth about this place. The truth behind the smiles. It happened over a…read moreyear ago, but every day I get angrier and angrier because of the misery that my beautiful husband had to experience there. It all started at Select Rehab Hospital. This place is incompetent and lousy. Their respiratory therapists and wound care nurses show up 2-3 times a week and miss half the problems. Select Rehab chooses not to employ them full time so they fail to catch new diseases. I just never thought it would happen to my family. They left my husband's neck and tracheostomy's tie unchecked for 10 days after his was moved to their facility. And when they finally bothered, they found red disgusting erosion that quickly made a hole in his neck. My poor husband got infected so badly that they had to use a pic line and heavy antibiotics to catch up. His collarbone and face were swollen, he was getting pneumonias, his state was sickening. He got so much sicker at the Select Rehab than he was at the actual hospital after surgery. He was transferred to them without a hole in his neck, without fevers, without pneumonias, without severe swelling or bleeding. I was calling his brothers with updates telling them how disgusted I was with Dr. Anastase and his cocky attitude. The wound according to his notes was supposed to heal fast and easy, but shocker, it never did. He didn't take my husband's wound seriously when he first saw it and by the time he realized the mess he was in, it was too late. The infection destroyed my husband's carotid artery and instead of going home from the Rehab, he was sent back to the ER in Denton, straight for another surgery. And that was another disaster, more bleeding. In his notes he colorfully describes how bad I sounded on the phone, but he conveniently skips the part why I was so upset. I got enraged because they missed the wound on my husband's neck which caused a mudslide of problems for us. That's why I wanted a different doctor, not Dr. A, and everyone we know told me I was right. He is unethical and disrespectful. When I read Dr. A's notes and let his brothers read them, everyone was livid. Badmouthing my husband saying "...the patient was intense, extremely involved and at times overbearing with care, tried to dictate care...?" What did he think my husband was going to do? Sit back and watch, wait for them to destroy him even more? What kind of doctor badmouths his patient and their spouse? Dr. A accused me of not liking his choice of physicians and wanting to take my husband to our doctors. It's not a crime and it's our right. He stated "Based on my prior knowledge of her behavior... the wife is quiet a barrier to any care and made it difficult to provide care..."? Is he out of his mind to say something like that about his patient's loved one? To accuse me of almost wishing harm to my husband? Those notes didn't just crush me and his brothers, they crushed my husband when I read to him what Dr. A said about us. Select Rehab dropped the ball and we paid for it dearly. I keep thinking if we had chosen a different Rehab hospital, like Medical City Dallas or UTSW, the doctors would've done their jobs properly caring daily for his neck, no hole, no infections. I hear every day that Select Rehab should be punished and held responsible for the neglect. People should think twice before they decide to go there. We made a grave mistake, bad decision by choosing the wrong Rehab and it changed our lives forever.

The rehab therapists were great but the nurses(excerpt for maybe 3) and other staff were a joke. They had no clue how to properly care for someone that couldn't bear weight on that knee. They expected to be walk when she came in. After they were told several times she could not bear weight on the knee for 12 weeks. She was almost given her blood thinner twice in 24 hours. This happened at least 2 times. And when she came home they gave her another patients pain medication. Thankfully my mom is smarter than those nurses and caught it. It was funny seeing the staff freak out and actually show up at our front door the next day. Stupid people. The weekend staff is the absolute worse. My mom was in fear of her safety at times because some of the male techs were just being creepy and kept insisting they give her showers. When she learned to do that by herself since she went 2.5 weeks without a shower because no one cared to ask if she had, had one. Be sure and keep the states number handy as you will want to make a report and keep them updated on all the mistakes they make which could be fatal for some.

I will say off the…read morebat I was extremely hesitant to want my family member in any nursing facility because of horror stories people hear. The Harrison exceeded all my expectations - the reason being a handful of staff members. First off, when you walk in you'll likely meet Ms. Sherry - who is kind and helpful and makes you feel at ease immediately. Thank you for being so welcoming and assisting my family every day. Luis, PTA - thank you!! Luis worked with my grandmother daily getting her strength to be self sufficient at home and walking to and from her bedroom, etc. He was kind, encouraging and an absolute gift. Lauren, speech therapist - patient and encouraging, thank you for taking the time to work with my grandmother and endure my family asking tons of questions and visiting during therapy. Lastly, her nurse Arthur and CNA Elsa - thank you guys!! The care Elsa showed will never be forgotten and we are truly grateful. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the follow up during and after discharge - referrals for home health PT/OT was great but ordering equipment has been bumpy. Upon discharge we expected equipment or how to go about getting it and have yet to hear back from the company or our contact @ Harrison.

Our family placed my grandmother in this facility after a major surgery with the hope that she…read morewould receive the care and rehabilitation she needed to regain her strength. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. The biggest issue was the lack of timely care. If you pressed the call button, you could expect to wait an hour or more for someone to respond--even when assistance was urgently needed. There were multiple occasions where my grandmother needed immediate attention, had already pressed her call button over an hour earlier, and no one had come. We would end up calling the front desk ourselves just to have someone go to the nurses' station and tell the staff to get up and help her. That should never have to happen. We repeatedly brought these concerns to management and the higher-ups, hoping things would improve. Instead, our concerns were brushed off, dismissed, or met with excuses. Nothing ever changed. We were also repeatedly told certain doctors and specialists would be coming, but many never did. The physician rarely showed up, the nutritionist we were promised never came, and several other services they assured us would happen simply never did. Medication management was inconsistent, the food was poor, and overall communication was lacking. It felt like promise after promise was made during the admission process, only for those promises to be forgotten once my grandmother was admitted. I do want to recognize two employees who truly stood out. Vivian at the front desk was always kind, professional, and incredibly helpful. She has no control over the care provided on the floors, but she consistently did everything she could to help us. Nicole, the wound care nurse, was also outstanding. She cared for my grandmother every day with compassion and professionalism. The only reason we didn't immediately transfer my grandmother to another facility was because we trusted Nicole to continue managing her wound care. Aside from those two individuals, I cannot recommend this facility. The nurse aides were often unresponsive, doctors were rarely seen, medications weren't handled consistently, and the overall quality of care fell far below what was promised. If you're considering placing a loved one here, I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. They deserve attentive, compassionate care--not long waits for basic needs, broken promises, and concerns that go ignored. DO NOT GO HERE.
