Pretty good helado tropical. This reminds me of a little bodega with goodies. They have two sections of ice cream, one section is tropical natural ice creams but keep in mind they are all dairy free, so if you are looking for that smooth creamy texture you most likely won't get it tropical section. Their tropical ice cream reminds me more of an Italian ice but with tropical flavors. They have a great Hersheys ice cream section with amazing flavors. The service was great but they wouldn't let you sample more than two flavors. The people here are super sweet and friendly and very welcoming. I truly love this place. This is a mom & pop that I hope never shuts down. I drive 18 minutes out just to get their Coconut flakes Ice cream (it's really icey, not ice cream). I called on the way, realizing that it was closing shortly and they stayed open a few minutes more until I got there to pick up what I was craving. I definitely recommend! My only disappointment was that the "barista" or the guy preparing coffee, for that matter, had barely any knowledge in coffee making or even the coffee blend the store uses. This place is Latin American, as am I and maybe because of that I am biased and extra strict when it comes to coffee. Latin Americans are known for making good coffee... not that every Latin American should have extensive knowledge about coffee... but if you market yourself as a Latin American restaurant, you should have a good barista. My family and I visited this ice cream place for the first time and we were greeted with so much love and family type welcome from both David and his wife. They were so sweet to us and everything tasted really good. We sampled most of the ice cream, bought two sodas, and bought the almond cake. All were very good. I had praline and coffee ice cream. My kids had whatever they had and my wife got mocha almond fudge. We also ordered guava cream pie abs empanadas. You can't go wrong with this place. 3 stars because the owners/workers were very friendly but disappointed in the actual ice cream. I'm sad to write this because I like to support local business owners, but I would not return. Yes, they have an array of tropical flavors, however, no soft serve or gelato like advertised. And the hard ice cream did not seem made by them rather purchased in big tubs from another place. (disclaimer: I don't know for sure, went to website to read about them but it was all in Spanish). There were also no freshly made cones or many toppings. Price was a little high, considering. I, personally, did not not get anything because they didn't have anything that I liked. My husband got the coconut and said it was good. This reviews solely based on my opinion. I just tried this place and was pleasantly surprised. I visited Puerto Rico this month and the passion fruit and coconut ice creams tastes just like the ones they sell in the carts at the beach. It was refreshing and inexpensive. The gentleman at the counter was welcoming and very helpful in helping us choose what to try. Samples are free so go and check it out! I have driven past this place for over 10 years and never had the opportunity to try it out until the other day. I know they've had their ups and downs recently with the changing of locations and different owners coming and going but I expected more. The service and staff were great; smiling, welcoming patrons and making the environment enjoyable. The product, it was just ok. Nothing special about the ice cream flavors or their concept in general. I liked the coconut flakes ice cream but that was it. The place to go if you are interested in trying out latin (more caribbean than Mexican) flavored ice creams. Example flavors: tamarind, guava, rum, coconut. My favorites are the sweet corn and arroz con dulce (cinnamon rice pudding). I could not give 5 star review because place was closed at least 30 minutes prior to advertised closing time. My family and I really liked this place at first but everytime we go now the ice cream machine is shut off! We asked why and they said they need to defrost it? So we went 2 hours before close today and the machine was already shut off. What kind of ice cream/gelati place is this?? They obviously don't want any business!
