    Beautiful painted earrings

Lovely jewelry and home decor! Beautiful pieces for all tastes and budgets! Great store to buy gifts for friends or something for yourself!

This is one of our favorite shops in La Villita. Like most galleries, some stuff seems a little overpriced, but it's always hard for me to judge. It's not like I've ever worked with copper to make beautiful things... The layout and lighting in the shop is really nice. Appealing. Calm. The person working was also calm and not intrusive, even though we had our 4.5-year old in tow (which makes some gallery owners pretty uneasy). It was definitely "no pressure," even after we clearly expressed interest in multiple pieces. Lot of beautiful, unique, and varied pieces in here. Large, small, tabletop pieces, wall pieces, jewelry... We definitely loved several pieces and plan to get at least one or two once we get a game plan for what goes where in our new (used) house. No idea if there's room to haggle as we weren't ready to buy and didn't try. But we'll be back! We love quality, unique metal art, and Copper Gallery had an excellent selection.

I usually don't care for copper things but this little shop was my favorite in the La Villita shopping area!

Starving Artist Art Gallery - Church gallery selling work of local artists. 40% goes to food program

The other reviewers have already spoken to said cause, but you're basically supporting the local church and helping people in need. Nice. Some of it may be "typical" San Antonio touristy stuff, but most of it has the touch and feel of real art created by local artisans. Ceramics, paintings, prints, jewelry, other miscellaneous... You're likely to come across something of interest in this homey little nook of a shop. I really like their variety of pottery and ceramics. Nice stuff. Well made and good selection. See my pics for a few examples. We always stop in here to browse whenever we visit La Villita. Sometimes you find something you can't live without, sometimes you don't. But you always kind of feel compelled to leave with *something* since you know you're funding good works by dropping a few bucks here. No credit or debit cards accepted - heads up. Happy hunting!

Anytime I hear the term "starving artist", I think of sub-quality art work. The Starving Artist Art…read moreGallery is a gallery that supports the food program at the La Villita church. The art is made up of a wide-range of pottery, jewelry, photography, and paintings. They also sell jewelry made by local artists. I will warn you that they do not take any form of plastic for payment. They do accept cash, money orders and checks. (Who carries checks anymore?) They do have a few touristy trinkets as well. Bottom line: The art supports the church food program but I really didn't think the art was that good. I'll give them three generous stars.

I have jewelry, art, beautiful glass pieces and more. My favorites from there are the NATIVITY ORNAMENTS, Nativities from other Countries, collectors 12 days of Christmas. All just great as gifts or something for you. The owner is one of a few in SA to make specialized molds for ornaments that are unique to our town. They are so great! The owner is phenomenal and so kind. This should definitely be on everyone's list when they hit downtown!

They have a plethora of unique items, from large scale art pieces to animal sculptures; lighting options that are as beautiful as they are bright to utensils almost too lovely to eat and drink with; miniature handmade Christmas ornaments; from elaborate earrings to pretty prints, there is something for everyone! A hidden gem loved by locals, a favorite detour before a show at any of the four performing art venues within walking distance- one literally steps away, so close that anybody who has been to a show has inevitably passed by while waiting in line to get through security! Their success in such a prime location is evidenced by their 25th anniversary this year, having been established way back in 1999, with a 10 year anniversary at their present location downtown. The service here is phenomenal. I challenge you to find fault here. Even though I have only ever bought something once, I confess that I have been here without purchasing anything at least a dozen times. The owner, Philip, and any other employees, has never reacted or treated me any differently. Friendly, welcoming, all smiles. More than once I have been inspired to smile back, even though I might not have been feeling it a moment before. Who knows- this might be a form of art therapy.

I am totally in love with the art scene in San Antonio at the present! There is a Do it Yourself…read morevibe and a polished art community coexisting simultaneously in the city. With galleries like The High Wire Arts, that feeling is definitely consummated. It is a commune of artists, if you will, who create both compelling and intellectually stimulating works. The gallery is located right across the street from The Josephine Theater. There is some parking in front of the spot, but you might have to park further down and walk here. The outside facade is quite amazing. There are sculptures that surround it; a sight to behold when they are lit up at night. Since I went there for a fundraising function they did charge a nominal entrance fee, $3.00 or by donation. But with admission they did offer catering by an Indian eatery. Inside the place was filled with all types of people to include, hipsters, burnout hippies, squatters, suit and tie types, musicians, writers, etc. White sleek walls were filled with ultra affordable art. I spotted a lady painting a complex piece, while a dog was resting a few feet away from her. The space itself is a mix of light and darkness. For example the front part has a use of brightness, in conjunction with white walls that lends to the pieces being displayed. Along the corridors there are dark corridors hidden by shadows that have rooms where new works are being made. Other rooms in the gallery have specific areas where patrons congregate and converse. In one of the rooms a DJ, an acoustic player and a Hare Krishna avatar were utilizing the same art space. I liked the vibe of this room, with swirling lights straight out of a Andy Warhol studio. It created an esoteric, unearthly vibe. My only critique of this gallery is the overplaying of light and darlk to the hilt. In some of the corridors it would have been nice to see a tad more light beeming. But than again each room and space had its own vision and narrative. Some of the art is mindblowing. To see the use of everyday things like leaves and teabags reimagined into canvases for dialogue was certainly not lost on me. The High Wire Arts Gallery is the perfect spot to play to the assets of this city, which has always been art and music. It is a bit hipster but not pretentious. It has a glow of its own that gives it purpsoe and a sense of urgency. I want to go back and see the teabags with the tiniest of etchings. Maybe it is saying that we need to examine things more closely before we make an absolute judgement. Maybe it is just a teabag with intricate etchings.
