My nomadic spirit takes me to some cool places. I found…read moremyself at Rudy's Cigar Shop in Fort Wayne, Indiana, by recommendation of my pal. Though it's called a shop, it seemed to me to be anything but. It's a cigar house, yep, a literal house with a porch, a front yard with seating and a view of a baseball field, a member lounge complete with a full kitchen, amazing back yard seating areas culminated with an incredible two-story deck. They carry a pretty great selection of cigars and accessories, local wines and chocolates, drinks, snacks, and Rudy's merch. I'd travel back to Fort Wayne just to hang out there. The owner is originally from Michigan. The staffer who graciously served as my guide shared with me that the shop folk take a cigar train trip twice a year. I'm definitely scheduling that on my calendar for 2025. #cigars #cigarshop #fortwayne #detroitcigarsmoker #cigartravel

Rudy's is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It's a homey place that looks almost…read morelike a fraternity house, with a big patio, Nirvana playing in the background (literally, All Apologies was playing from a speaker somewhere when I rolled up), and this chaotic energy that I can't place. I think some of that energy starts with the sign on the door that says that you need to be prepared to show that you're 21+ in order to enter. I entered, and no one asked me whether I was over 21. Alrighty then! I visited because I wanted a bottle of wine to take back to my hotel. I read that Rudy's has wine, and they do, but it's a small wall of wine with maybe a dozen different bottles. Two of the bottles are from Oliver Winery (too sweet for me, I already know), and maybe four other bottles also looked light and sweet. I ended up finding a decent-looking Pinot Noir that was a little more than I wanted to pay initially, but once I opened it, I could see where the extra couple of bucks went. It was a good bottle of red. But, if you're looking for a variety of wines, this is not the place to visit. And if you're looking for beers, the same applies. They do have some beers in a refrigerator, but they're sparse. Mostly, though, Rudy's is a cigar bar, and everything about it screams cigars once you step inside. I know very little about cigars beyond what my dad has imparted upon me; he has taken up smokin' stogies in the past couple of years. I think he would love this place, and if you're a cigar smoker, I think you might love it, too. It's just not my vibe, but I'm glad it exists for those who it vibes with.

I know from a previous experience here that they actually have a large amount of these in stock up on the top shelf. I explained this to the guy and he said those are not it when I pointed them out. I could see he was becoming agitated which I found odd. He did pull one box that I pointed out down and sure enough I was right. He set the box of pods down I picked it up to be sure it was correct. He snatched it out of my hand so I asked him "did you not see I was trying to look at that when you snatched it out of my hand" he replied aggressively that he couldn't believe I would "reach across the counter" and he then raised his voice and asked me if I would do tgat at a bank over and over. He was breathing heavy and shaking. I then asked if I could just pay for my pods. He rang me up and I asked him if he was okay he said I'm fine I just can't believe you thought you could reach over the counter. I paid and apologized for upsetting him he then raised his voice again and tried to start an argument about it. I did not argue I left. I will argue here, I was not at a bank. I was purchasing an item at a store and I wanted to be sure the ohms were correct so I picked it up to read it. You snatching it from me constitutes assault. You sir are lucky I didn't go that route. By grace I will let this one slide. I think you were having problems today before I ever came in the store. I'll chalk your behavior and demeanor up as I caught you at a bad time. However you should not be allowed to treat customers that way ever, regardless of what your going through. You never know what someone else has been or is going through. I'll remember you and this encounter. I should also note the blonde woman sat present helping another customer and they both witnessed the entire encounter. Neither said a word. I emailed the owners at 2 different email addresses, I reached out to them on Facebook and have been ignored.

Their new location is great and all the staff is always so kind, helpful and knowledgeable!read more
