My first experience with Cooper's Auto Service has been a great one! With an over-heating car in a city where I know no mechanics, I found these guys online at the AAA website and gave them a call. They're booked a couple weeks out so I had to wait to get my vehicle in but the wait was worth it. Fortunately I had a car I could borrow in the meantime and if you're someone who doesn't have that luxury, waiting to get in to them can be a deal-breaker. I spoke with an older woman in the lobby, another customer, who has been bringing her vehicles here since the 80s and another woman who's been coming here for 10 years - both of them rated Cooper's highly and as an older single woman myself, having a good mechanic is like having a treasure in gold stashed under your bed. I felt like I was in good hands even before getting any work done. Cooper's completed the work and returned my vehicle with vacuumed carpets! At their request, I've scheduled a follow-up visit for a re-check of the AC work they did (to see if it's leaking, etc.). I'm completely satisfied with the work they did on my vehicle, hence the 5-star rating. The only thing I'm not very happy with is the amount of wait time before I could even get in to see them; I suppose that's a sign that they're *that* good but I wish they weren't so busy. read more

Dealership was much cheaper. And they used factory parts. Requested a quote on replacement clutch on a Nissan. They cam back over 3300 as a quote. Way quote the job if you really didn't want it. Say you're too busy. DON'T TRY TO RIP PEOPLE OFF!!!! Dealership cost 1295.00 HUGE DIFFERENCE.. I used to recommend this place to different customers I worked with because of the quality of service. Coopers is a M-F place, which is a bit of a bummer but they work with you on drop off and pick up times/methods. We have used them since we moved to the east side of Portland in 2006, and my in laws for years before that. It's a quality shop-not the cheapest, not the most expensive. They stick to their price estimates, back their work and give you a fair and honest response on repairs. They have worked on many cars for us and have even given us recommendations when buying "budget friendly" cars for our up and coming drivers. Do you have AAA? The folks at Coopers Auto are amazing! A friend referred me to them. I had a family emergency and had to drive to Tillamook. I have a 1999 Tahoe and was worried about the drive. I brought my car there right when they opened. They immediately checked my car out to make sure it was in good enough condition for the trip. When I went to pay- they said no charge-just get to your family safely" They restored my faith in kindness and great customer service. It's unfortunate to say Cooper's staff didn't listen to me about service I needed on 2 separate phone calls in advance of coming in for my appointment, nor did they deliver those services I re-stated I wanted, when I came in. My check engine light was on, so I requested a full diagnostic plus an examination of another attention area, because as I told Rich, I wanted my vehicle to be safe for a very long roadtrip. I left my vehicle for however long it would take for the evaluation of everything, but Cooper's called me back in within a very short time, and Rich told me in person everything checked out fine and I was good to go. I didn't notice my check engine light was still on until later and planned to go back to Cooper's, whenever I would be in that neighborhood again. I trusted that Cooper's had done the diagnostic I requested and just thought a code needed to be cleared, as I was told everything looked good. When I returned, 3 staff didn't know what to do with my situation, because there was no paperwork done when I was there for the inspection and diagnostic appointment. Strangely enough, Rich told me they didn't know I wanted a diagnostic, would have had to charge me $89 for it, and acted like he hadn't noticed my check engine light on, when I came in before. I said I was frustrated with them, because that was specifically mentioned when I made my appointment, as well as 2x on the day of arriving. Mechanics asked to assess how mechanically sound a vehicle is should automatically see those visual clues as a reminder, when they pull it in for inspection! I was fully prepared to pay for diagnostic services; I had trusted that Cooper's staff heard me any of the 3x I said what I wanted done. Now, my trust is broken and I don't feel they cared about my safety. Now, I will not return to Cooper's and have told my friends not to go to Cooper's, because whether I was dismissed or denied proper delivery of services due to my race/gender or some other reason, I'm greatly disappointed in how I was treated and not served. read more

I had my car towed to Cooper's because they are one of a handful of shops that even work on clutches. I needed the whole system replaced and it ended up costing more than I had planned. They ended up storing it for me for about 10 days and they charged me nothing for that. They were extremely thorough in completing the work I asked them to do, stuck to their estimate and gave me the time I needed to come up with the rest of the money for the bill. I really appreciate them and my car runs like a champ. read more

This feels like the dad I never had fixing my car for me. They are very good about remembering the needs of your vehicle, letting you know about what might need to be fixed and prioritizing the needs for you. They are communicative and reliable. If I have any questions they talk to me about it but not in a condescending way some mechanics tend to talk to women about cars. They even vacuum the front floorboards for me which is so nice! read more

This review is long overdue. I've been using Cooper's for about 5 years now to service all 4 of our families vehicles. I don't hand out 5 star reviews freely, but this one is well deserved. I moved to the Portland area 11 years ago and struggled to find a good shop the first 5 or 6 years that I trusted. These guys are fair, honest and won't try to up sale you on repairs. If it can wait, they'll tell you it can wait and won't put fear into you to force a larger bill. I've spent thousands of dollars in maintenance and repairs at this place and the work has always been superior. Vey professional and great customer service is something you can count on. I've priced out many jobs at my old shops and Cooper's always has better cost per job. I plan to be a long time customer at Cooper's and would highly recommend this shop to anyone! read more

The mechanic at the shop watched a tow truck park my car in their garage, watched as the tow truck driver pulled away, and then told me they wouldn't take my car bc they were too busy and that the car needed to be moved before they closed in ten minutes. I cannot stress enough how fantastic and easy these guys were to work with. I had a check engine light issue that 2 other automotive places sort of dismissed and said was t really a problem. I took it to Cooper's, 2 hours after drop off I had a call with the issues that needed to be fixed and few hours later it was done. I was incredibly appreciative of how honest and upfront they were. Since my car is older/higher mileage they advised me of a few things to watch out for/check on. This place is as good as it gets. I found them knowledgable, fair, and fast. I go there for all my car needs, from oil changes to major engine work. They seem unbiased when recommending for or against some work and help me weigh the pros and cons. Sometimes they actually argue against having certain work done or give me good pros and cons to help me decide. Bottom line, no pressure. Once they diagnosed my car with a problem only the dealer could fix. No charge. That is honest and fair. read more

I found Cooper's via AAA. Looking for a mechanic closer to me and they have done nothing but good for me. Recommended I take my car to the dealer with a recent transmission issue as it was still under warranty, and so I did and the entirety of the repair was at no cost to me. I received a thank you card and 25% off in the mail after my first visit and I've just been very pleased as dealing with car issues is usually a stressor for me. read more

Cooper's Auto is amazing. I first stumbled upon them when looking for someone to fix my sisters car, being transplants to the area we didn't know who to trust or go to, but after reviewing multiple different review sites we decided on Cooper's Auto. They did such a great job with my sister's rig and were so wonderful to work with I started taking my car there for everything from tune-ups, battery replacement, break repairs to fluid flushes. They did not nickel and dime me like the other in-and-out oil change places, and I found they are right on with market rates for cost if not more affordable. They are upfront with costs, will try to save you money when they can and work with you on payment options. I have not experienced this level of service and care since living back in the small town I grew up in and going to same mechanics your family has gone to for over 50 years. This is one of those rare, family-owned, solid business that cares about building long-term relationships with clients vs. just squeezing a quick, easy-buck out of people. I was once again impressed with them a few weeks ago, when I had to quickly go out of town for an interview, days before my appointment for much needed maintenance on my car. They let me drop off my car early and kept it safe and secure for over a week until I could get back to retrieve it. When we arrived to pickup the car, knowing we had just driven from 7 hours away, they met us with cold drinks and a smile, and keys to my car which is now running beautifully! I was lucky enough to get the job I interviewed for, but will be very sad to be moving away from my trusted mechanic team at Cooper's Auto. I will miss them dearly. I was having trouble with my car on a Saturday afternoon 11/19/11 across the street from Cooper's. I went across the street to try and get what I needed and noticed the sign said they were closed on Saturday and Sunday, but there was a guy behind the counter that looked like he was maybe looking for parts from a book and the shelves or something so I knocked to see if he could maybe help me out. Now I realize it is a Saturday and the sign said closed, but the guy would not even come to the door when I knocked. He just looked at me and went to the back of the store in the parts shelving area. I just thought if someone is there they could at least come to the door and see what was going on being it is an automotive type place. read more

We've been going to them for years for repairs and routine maintenance on our '01 Honda Civic. They've kept the car running well for us. Cost of maintenance and repairs has always been very reasonable. They've regularly discouraged me from doing unnecessary repairs. Recently, when a weird clutch issue proved to be more complicated than they anticipated, they bent over backwards to prevent the saga from becoming a huge hassle and inconvenience to us, and even waived the cost on account of the hassle and our "faithful business". I felt they went above and beyond. I'm not one who cares much about loyalty to a brand or business, but Coopers is becoming the exception to me. read more

Oftentimes when I take my car serviced I feel as though the employees take advantage of my lack of knowledge and it makes me hesitant to take it in, but these guys weren't that way at all!!! They were incredibly respectful, explained to me what the next steps were, and quoted me a reasonable fee. When everything was finished, it even cost a little less than they had said!! My car has been running great, and I am forever grateful for their services and experience. Stereotypical rip-off car mechanics. Paid for what I thought was a complete repair ($1600), only to find out the car needed more work. Cooper's quoted an additional $800. Got the car fixed elsewhere for $145. Cooper's also takes FOREVER. I drive for a living so I cannot be out of commission. Find someone else to repair your car who's honest, efficient and kind. I have used Cooper's Auto Service in the past and would say the service was fair, but what's has happened to Cooper's? I recently took my Subaru in for repairs and was very surprised at how expensive their rates were. They did call me to let me know it would be over $800 for a starter, alternator and battery which blew me away!!!! They said the starter was still ok for now but could go at anytime. So replacing the alternator and battery was all I could do that day. My total $ 456. 00 . Now a little over 2 months my car will not start. So my husband goes back to Cooper's reference the battery being toast. Corry told my husband sometimes that happens and we will take care of it, then when he went to find a battery like ours they were out. Then Corry explained how he would prorate the battery and we would have to pay for a new one. This did not set well with my husband. After further discussion Corry did the right thing and replaced our battery. I'm Not coming back. No one should be put through the ringer for wanting you to stand behind your product and service . A little advise for Cooper's 1. Don't bash and talk trash about your customer after you speak to them on the phone. Not good customer service...no one wants to hear your opinion of how stupid they are because they don't like your high prices. 2, Get over yourself. Just because you've been in business for a long time doesn't mean your are the best. 3. Get some help. read more

I have a 4wd vehicle. I had the transfer case serviced at coopers 7 years ago. Since then it has not been touched. I tried to remove the fill plug from the transfer case today and discovered that the fill plug was damaged from previous work. I called to ask for their help to resolve the situation and was told that I need to take responsibility for the damage. I'm having it towed to another shop to get it repaired and they'll get the bill for the tow and the repair. The guy I talked to told me it had been too long. I was amazed that a shop with such a stellar reputation would respond this way even though they had a record of them doing the work. read more

I've been meaning to write a review, because Cooper's is awesome! Reliable, friendly, reasonable rates. They've repaired my '96 Jeep Cherokee several times and each time did a great job. Most recently, my 98 Honda Odyssey needed a new battery and they replaced it cheap and then washed my car and vacuumed the front AND THE BACK. I came in this morning (my engine light went off last night) with no appointment (not recommended!!). The guy worked me around his BUSY schedule. A couple of hours later he called with diagnosis & estimates (much cheaper than I thought!!) and said that he'll have the car ready this afternoon!! What an amazing service!! We've been using Coopers for about six years after finding them on Angie's List. I made the mistake ..ONE TIME..of taking my car elsewhere for a repair that was needed on a weekend. After a disastrous result, I took the car back to Cooper's and they fixed the problem... AND they had the other company cover the cost! I won't make that mistake again. They always get back to me with what work is needed ..and what work can wait ..with costs for both. Many times the cost has actually come in UNDER their estimate!!
