I wasn't spoilt for choice with an enormity of local and fresh produce and products from local traders including: Cakes/confectionary, Fresh Meat and auction, Plants and Flowers, Tools and Hardware, Bedding, Sportswear, Ladies/mens/childrens clothing, Electrical goods, Household products, Bread, Pies, eggs, CD's & books, Furniture, Jewellery and Repairs, Pet food/toys/accessories, Greetings cards, Footwear, Wool, Watches, Protective clothing, bags, Fishmonger, Carpets, Fruit & Veg, phone accessories, cosmetics and more. It was the cakes and fishmongers that did it for me! The prices are pretty good and its nice not to be in a supermarket. Also on a friday you get all the extra food stalls mainly consisting of fruit and veg, then there is also the big meat trailor where you can definately pick up some good deals - however they don't seem to sell meats in small quantities even so still very good. Monday seems to be half the size of a friday - still worth a look if your local maybe not if you have to travel far - it really is pot luck on a monday. Saturday there is absolutely everything there that nobody would want unless you where looking for something in particular, however, this is the busiest day for the market so be warned - if you have no patience don't go its packed and everybody walks around at snail pace. It really handy to get too as the local train and bus stations are within walking distance.

Holland and Barrett have recently expanded their Market Street branch, now including some of the…read moreold BHS unit, it's like a whole new store since the refurb, it's now over two floors, it's a very, cool impressive store now. They do have lifts and escalators, making this one of the largest branches I have seen. I was drawn in due to how the branch looked, it was pretty cool and a nice addition to Market Street. H&B is more of a health store, they sell loads of free from stuff, including some things which are harder to source down elsewhere such as Isabel's mixes, Clives Pies, stuffing and cake mixes and all varieties of Ten Acre Crisps and Sweet Mandarin sauces, the prices were quite expensive and high end, but with an offer throughout the store to get another item for half price, which was even reminded to me at the checkout, who saved my place while i went to get something else, that made the price situation slightly better and of course my server saving my items and place in line, while I went to get something was good customer service for me. The store isn't perfect however, as some items do seem expensive which does put me off, especially for items which are more widely avaliable such as some of the biscuits this place stores, which are basically in every major supermarket. The drink selection could also be slightly improved such as making some of them more affordable, and more well known brands such as health drinks, there were a number of items here which were formely on Dragon's Den such as "Secret Sausages" and "Simply Bee Water", the latter I've tried before and strongly disliked as it is too watery. Overall, this is a nice store and does deserve three stars and it has been made so much better since the refurb, where it does stand out now, and isn't just another store in such a large city of Manchester.

Recently Holland and barrets protein section has gone from strength to strength. This thanks to a new generation of blokes who like to buy whey protein and attend the gym two to three times a week, sorry fellas this ain't how it works. I can't count the amount of my mates who seem to neck protein shakes then follow it up with a shocking program of mincing around the gym and doing sets of weights, sorry boys that ain't fitness and your just going to get fat then mistake it for bulk.

Last night I decided to get a few 'bits' for the weekend, but I ended up purchasing most of the party food and drink I'll need for my flat warming next weekend (I've recently moved back to the area). There are just so many essentials at ridiculously low prices, that you need to be prepared for over-buying. A standard-sized frozen pizza (nice as well) for 89p..WTF! Garlic bread 30p. Cottage cheese is at least twice the price in Tesco and Morrison's. On that note, Aldi is great for cheese-lovers, in terms of prices. Not the the most varied selection but they are definitely the cheapest. Veg is cheap, bread is the cheapest in town, with a fresh bakery on site selling dirt-cheap homemade bread. I have to say I went in for booze primarily and I purchased some fine ales for little over a quid! Bought some wine for £3.15 and it's actually ok! Also managed to get some winter wamers which you don't see anywhere else but the Christmas markets for treble the price; mulled cider and gingered wine for around £3 a pop, amazing! The only gripe I have is having to purchase carrier bags, as I've a drawer full of them at home. Come prepared with your own plastic if you come here and bring at least three, as you will go ALDI supermarket-sweepin' in the aisles. :-)

It gets uber-busy around midday at weekends to the point where it's not always possible to get on the car park. I like to get there about 9am after a workout at the gym and have the place almost to myself. It's no surprise that Aldi is getting more and more popular all the time at the expense of Tesco and Asda. They are spot on with their pricing and the food quality is as good as much dearer supermarkets if not better.

I love the Thursday and sunday offers of the week, and recently bought my daughter a fantastic shocking pink portable DVD player much cheaper than I would be able to elsewhere. I went along, 10am on a Sunday morning to get some brekkie before heading to sunbathe and Yelp in the park. I walked in and was browsing the menu which does seem a little complicated... so I asked how much it was for a bacon roll. After a lot of deliberating and looking at the menu, the woman seemed to make up a price at £2.40. In the end, I ordered two sausage and bacon rolls which came to a total of £5.20. I was asked if I wanted any sauce on my rolls, I asked for ketchup on mine (I'm one of those people that has ketchup on everything!), but I forgot to mention that I didn't want butter which was a shame because when I bit into it, it was laden with the stuff. Gutted. The bacon and sausage were cooked fresh, which makes a change for a little sandwich shop. The roll was yummy - just a shame about the butter. They provide a wide range of stuff such as all day breakfasts, seafood, pasta salads, baguettes, toasties, paninis and serve coffee, all at a pretty good price and the portions are good too.
