I remember the last time I visited this place was in 2018...And it's still as good as I remember it! The eating area inside is a bit dark and quaint; They also got a foosball table from what I saw. Having said that, Coolside places more an emphasis on outdoor eating like most places in Downtown Palm Harbor, and it is actually really cozy and classy. I found it to be quite enjoyable! Honestly doesn't detract from the quality of the store at all. Food wise, the gelato was sweet enough to be good, but not too sweet to the point of being overpowering. It's creamy, and there's a reasonable variety of flavors here. Not much to say given it's pretty basic, but there's something to be said about the classics. Honestly, no complaints! I am thoroughly confused by the high reviews. Either these are local friends just trying to help the owner which I applaud. Or people who have never in their life had real Gelato or even good ice cream. I hate to tear a local business down but my reviews are meant to be honest for other patrons. Each time I've entered this establishment the vibe has been unwelcoming and cold. A man of little words. Inside is very small as is outside. But the real let down is the "Gelato" and for me personally calling it Gelato is highly offensive because it's nothing like Gelato. The flavors aren't great and I tried several. My honest opinion is that this would be an absolute last option for me. I would go to McDonald's for soft serve before coming here. Gelato place at Palm Harbor bring joy to the kid of the neighborhood. I hope New Tampa has one of the mom and pop gelato store one day. Coolside has a special beerlato that I did not try. I will try that next time. Today we have three of the flavors. All three flavors was very nice. Before you are ordering, you can try their specialty flavors. The server was nice enough for any cup size, he can fill as many flavors he can. We got the small cup, and he was able to fill with three flavors. This is a plus to attract customers to come back. Cute little gelateria in hopping downtown Palm Harbor. Home of the Beerlato (just what it sounds like a gelato float with beer-and that's a no for me). We had a medium and a large for under $12. We tried butterfingers, pistachio & Sea Salt Caramel gelato. All good but hands down the Sea Salt won. Pairs well with almost any flavor. Palm Harbor is always busy, and does strong bar business with some food also (or so I see it). Coolside is right in the middle of this madhouse... and so finding parking is not easy... be prepared to park a little farther away and walk a little. We walked in and found out they serve coffee, beer, gelato, ice cream and float. After trying couple flavors, We got a large cup strawberry pineapple, bubble gum and pistachio. Great Gelato! And really cool flavors. The woman at the counter seemed passionate and excited by all the flavors. I had the wasabi almond chocolate which had an interesting kick to it and the salted caramel, which was creamy and sweet. I tried another flavor like blueberry goat cheese--definitely weird! But I like places where you can get something tried and true and something experimental, never know what you are going to like! This is a great finish after the next door pizza or just great as a late night stop. There is some seating inside and outside and some limited parking. It is about time that I finally tried this place. The owner is a sweetheart. I asked to try most all the flavors because I couldn't figure out my most favorite. I liked the Pralines and Cream, sea salt caramel, strawberry balsamic, tiramisu, Rocher, all of them. I finally picked the tiramisu and strawberry. It was so good and creamy. Felt so nice on my throat that's been bothering me. They also have beerlatos which is beer with different types of gelato. They even have a pairing chart. They have flights as well where you pick four gelato flavors and try it with your beer. They have moscato wine with lemon gelato. They also have coffees, cannolis, and desserts. This is the real thing, straight from Italy by way of New York. The owners did everything they could to make gelato properly, including training from an Italian gelato master! Leila was quite friendly, describing how just one trip to Italy inspired the opening of this shop! So a friend of mine invited me to meet her for gelato on Friday night. I thought what the heck, why not, I could go for some ice cream. For starters, the owner Layla is fabulous. Very helpful, welcoming and ready to help explain the process from start to finish. They have not only ordinary gelato flavors, but also some savory ones like cornbread & jalapeño and PAD THAI! Yes, I said pad Thai gelato. I sampled a spoonful. It's made with peanut butter, coconut, cilantro and sriracha and it really tasted like the real deal. There's so many flavors it's hard to choose Here's where it gets really good. As I said this isn't an everyday ice cream shop. It's home of the BEERLATO!! What fabulous creation. It's like a root beer float for grown ups. So you pick any flavor gelato you want, mix it with any one of a variety of craft beers and just like that you have an amazing adult treat. I opted for the cinnamon gelato with sweet potato casserole beer. It was AWESOME! I honestly couldn't get enough. Oh and did I mention that beer was 8% ABV- that's like 2 beers in one, not some wimpy imitation! For $7.95, it's well worth it if you ask me. From here on out this will be my new ice cream spot.
