There is very little social issues/conflicts at Orchard House, and faculty still makes a point to discuss social issues and make it known that the school is a safe place, and a sisterhood. We had a very unpleasant experience with this establishment. From a revolving door of teachers to…read morethe absence of communication from staff and administration, much was lacking at Central Montessori. The communication issues were evident from the start. We never received a school calendar or got added to the mailing list upon enrollment, so we were surprised with several school closures in our initial time there. Over the course of roughly six months, the teachers were unable to follow through on the meager commitment of one short note per week to let us know how our child was doing in class. We had no idea what he was doing during the day and eventually he returned home with language and behavior consistent with a complete lack of Montessori principles being used in the classroom. ("I'm a bad kid... I'm going to sit in the corner....etc.) After voicing concern about multiple changes in teacher with no notification, the director told me the new assistant teacher wasn't certified, didn't have the requisite experience, but was "super interested in teaching Montessori." At this point, I started enquiring about our location of waitlists elsewhere. It is clear that Central knows they have parents trapped due to the lack of options for childcare in the area, because they let the disorganization and unprofessionalism continue. We eventually could tell that our child was not receiving the care or education we were promised, so we found a new school where he is absolutely thriving. I sincerely hope that a change in leadership can turn the tide at Central for the sake of the other children and families still enrolled.

Not every year has been easy for us - and our children really run the gamut with academic abilities/attention issues, etc. However - If your Catholic faith is a priority for you, I could not recommend this school highly enough. It's small. It's traditional. It's classical. That does not really suit everyone, of course. But my husband and I understand that we have a very small window of time to fill our children's minds with philosophy, theology, literature, logic, morals, etc... eventually they will be on their own and can study whatever they like, but these early years are foundational. Saint Benedict's gets that. It's not perfect, of course. But we love it.

Great High School! The teachers and all personnel involved with day to day functions are very…read moreengaging with students and parents despite how many students are enroll. They get to know the students and find ways to encourage them towards success. The only way a student could fail is if he/she does not put forth any effort. I have first hand knowledge of this and it is solely up to the student if they want to pass or fail. Teachers will let students know ahead of time if they are not meeting requirements and then will reach out to the parents to express concerns and options available if they believe the student needs extra tutoring. No, the curriculum is not easy, but the resources to pass any class are plentiful if a student needs more instructional time or understanding any particular coursework required. The opportunities are endless! The students are reminded they can excel in anything, even if they are not confident on what their goals are beyond high school just yet. For those who do have an idea or plan for the future, the early exposure towards those goals are very easy to begin working towards while being a Jaguar! It is very possible for students to graduate with an associate's degree, certification in one of the many trades the county offers, and/or early graduation! Also, with many athletic programs and clubs, it makes it very easy to establish great relationships to contribute to a healthy social environment during and out of school. My son only experienced 3 years in Glen Allen (freshmen year was virtual), but even with everyone adjusting to the new normal and us being new to the Glen Allen neighborhood, this school really surpassed all my expectations! A special thank you for Mrs. Allen! Thank you for always making yourself available and going the extra mile to help the students work towards their goals. But most importantly being creative and hands on, encouraging them from the time you work out their first schedule as rising Jaguars. We truly appreciate you beyond words! -Micah's Mom & Entire Village
