We came from a Montessori school out of state, so we were specifically looking for a child-led philosophy that prioritizes social-emotional development over early academic pressure. No rote memorization, no rushing kids into worksheets. Our son is a mover, and this school gives him real space and time for physical play every day. It's the biggest line item in our monthly budget by far, and honestly one of the easiest ones to justify. Grateful to be part of this community.

My daughter is in her second year at the Richmond Waldorf School. We have had nothing but extremely…read morepositive experiences with the school and the school community. What drew me to RWS was their philosophy around educating the whole child. The skills that children learn in a Waldorf program are designed to build a healthy, educated whole individual. You can teach a child very specific skills at any school. Waldorf is helping to develop and nurture children's natural curiosity which is something that can't be found in a textbook. A curious child that is nurtured becomes a life long learner. Not everyone is familiar with the Waldorf education and it's fundamentals. My son is no athlete, but he got to play every sport including Varsity soccer, basketball, and golf. They begged him to play on the tennis team. The coaches are top tier and every kid can play building those important team building skills. My son has also been able to travel with the school to England, Italy, France, Germany, and Switzerland to meet students from around the world. He has also built great connections in Asia, India, and Norway. Im up in age and know the who you know and good connections will beat smarts every day of the week. Many of the kids come from successful business owners and when he goes to their houses he can see what hard work and a little risk can result in My son and his friends dont just talk about future jobs but what businesses they are going to build. Can you imagine what Millwood kids can put on their college applications compared to if I let him go to a regular school. I have never written a review, but possible parents have to know about Millwood. I'll probably get all my money back in way of extra scholarships. It has been worth every penny and any sacrifice. Give Millwood a try.

In terms of academics, it is a decent school. However, this schools administration is truly…read moreterrible in my opinion. The administration does absolutely zero solutions in any situation. The school does not hesitate to violate its own "code of conduct", often to benefit the school, even if it harms its students. The school will do nothing if a student is harassed or bullied, and it will cover up any incidents that occur at the school without even attempting to solve them if it will make the school look bad. Again, the actual academics are good, but I would strongly advise against going here, due to the administration.

My son really became socially and emotionally aware at his time at the preschool. Yes they play in the mud and dirt and they are learning so much through their free play, and how to socialize with others. They come home happy and have spent time out in nature and far away from screens. They learn to work together and support one another. They learn empathy and compassion. Each child's uniqueness is celebrated and they have the opportunities to try so many different experiences through art and nature. My youngest acquired so many social skills that my oldest son didn't get from his traditional preschool (that mainly focused on getting him ready for kindergarten and being able to write his alphabet).I encourage you if you're thinking about sending your child here to take a tour and see for yourself. You will experience the wild at heart vibe that is to be celebrated of young children. This is where they are encouraged to be themselves and think for themselves and to not be conformed into anything else.
