Suffice to say (before reading my long review) it was not on par with the L street location! The staff were definitely new and learning the menu, but that is to be expected any time a new place is freshly opened. Our server, Blake, was nice though and was learning fast. But with a few other servers, there was one thing that did not come about from being a server in a new restaurant. We were eating and could CLEARLY hear the staff around the corner talking loudly and cursing left and right. I am not a prude about language but it's just not something you see every day at a restaurant with families/kids dining. The size of the restaurant seems a little smaller than the L street location, too. That may be a psychosomatic thing when trying a different location of a place you know, but I definitely felt more cramped. The food is on par with the OG spot, so no complaints there. My usual is the bourbon glazed salmon with the cheesy broccoli on the side. So it was just as tasty as the other location, but I think I'll stick to the L street one mostly going forward.

I recommend placing your order in person rather than online, as it allows you to go over all the details. For the most part, everything went smoothly, aside from one small oversight--they forgot to write my daughter's name on the cake. We picked up the cake on Saturday and enjoyed it the following day. I ordered a 6-inch round double chocolate cake, and it served eight people, which was exactly what we needed. The cake had a delicious flavor, and everyone enjoyed it. While it wasn't quite as moist as I had hoped, I believe that may have been because we waited a day before serving it. Overall, we were very happy with our experience and would definitely order from Dave's Cakes again in the future.

My personal favorite is their strawberry buttercream frosting it's one of those things I always end up asking for when we order a cake. I also really like that you can mix and match flavors and especially the fillings between the layers. It makes each cake feel a bit more custom and not just standard birthday cake. Everyone there has always been super friendly and welcoming every time we go in which makes it an easy experience overall. My daughter is especially into their cupcakes when the Oreo ones are in rotation she gets super excited and that's usually what we end up leaving with. Just a solid place we keep going back to because the cakes are consistently good and it feels like they actually care about what they're making.

Crumbl has started offering mini versions of their cookies almost every week, so we've been getting…read morethem more now that they're not so gigantic. And trust me, the minis are the way to go!! You get the same flavor without it being giant and overwhelming. Of the minis we've tried, these have been our favorite: Cinnamon Roll: This was my favorite, as it tasted just like a Cinnabon with the swirly cream topping, but as a cookie! Super good warmed up, too, making it all ooey gooey and a little melty (like a cinnamon roll!!) Waffle: My husband's favorite and for me, it almost tied with my fave! It's a semi sweet waffle looking cookie with a little drop of buttery frosting, making it seem like a waffle even more. And it came with served with a side of syrup for the top! So perfect. Strawberry Cupcake: Loved this one. It tasted just like a vanilla cupcake with a super sweet and tart strawberry swirl of strawberry cream frosting. It was extra moist and delicious. Birthday Cake: This honestly tasted just like a birthday cake! It had the flavor of raw cake batter, with a soft buttercream white frosting and little holiday sprinkles on top! Peanut Butter Cookies and Cream: Definitely seemed very simple, but was so tasty! It was the perfect mix of chocolate and peanut butter, with little bits of chocolate inside to give it a little bit of texture. Snickerdoodle Sandwich: This came chilled, but I heated it up as I'm not a huge fan of cold cookies. Once it was heated up, it was great! It consisted of two snickerdoodle cookies with vanilla frosting in the middle, and a a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar on top. Now on to the "mid" mini cookies that we didn't love so much, but didn't hate: -Ginger Snap: This was more simple than all the rest, but it was still pretty tasty. I just don't know if I'd use a spot in my pink box for it again. Chocolate Chip: Always good, but we get it almost every time to fill in a box of six. Also, the mini size doesn't really work as well on this one, as it loses the soft center of the larger size version. Turtle: I liked the cookie part, which was a dark chocolate rolled in super fine chopped pecans. and the layer of caramel and milk chocolate layered toppings, but I was not a fan of the nuts on top. I think the cookie having the chopped nuts in it was enough. And the ones that we straight did not like: -Banana Bread: I'm just not a huge fan of banana flavored things, unfortunately. The actual cookie itself was banana flavored, topped with glazey brown sugar compote that almost made it soggy. -Peppermint Ice Cream - There's not much to say about this one, except that it tastes like straight toothpaste. Blech! Overall, Crumbl is still hitting it out of the park in flavors (aside from the few that were misses this time around). Especially now that they offer the mini sizes, I think they're a lot more accessible to those who don't want gigantic over indulgent cookies!

I'm just not a fan of the overall experience where you order on the tablet in front of you. They say welcome to Crumbl when you come in which kind of primes you to think that they're gonna take your order, but then they just go back to working on cookies and you kind of stand there for a second until you realize oh I need to order myself. And then the user interface really isn't intuitive on the ordering app on the tablet. I consider myself to be fairly tech savvy, but the menu options were titled kind of vaguely. For things like this I feel like it really needs to be immediately obvious. The cookies themselves were pretty good, again with the chocolate chip being my favorite. The Minecraft cookie did look cool, but I was disappointed that the entire thing wasn't edible. And it was definitely more of style over substance. The flavor was alright but nothing special. I just still feel like there's some room for improvement with the flavor and texture of the cookies. This is their main focus, cookies are all they do. They should be the best darn cookies in the world.
