Some people can't cook; I feel as though i've thoroughly trained in my dislike of cooking. I've dedicated most of my adult life for it. I am a professional athlete at being unable to cook. It's impressive really... feel free to be intimidated. Which is why i've found myself in employment that requires many a meal out. Not saying I live on take away... I'm quite the master at opening cans and heating up things... but even with such a skill under my belt, I find that a "balanced" diet has never been my forte. Enter the "big sickness". I recently had to take a few weeks off for medical reasons and if I was to make it out the other end, I needed to shape up my diet. After much research and countless article snooping, I happened upon Balance Box. They had great feedback, the food looked fresh and though ridiculously expensive, it was only meant to be for a month or two. A month to get myself back on track? I could stomach the extra cost. But i'm wary of food delivery, as I've been burned before. Cooking not being a strong suit, i've dipped my toes into delivery in the past and often found that though the food to LOOKED amazing, what arrived at the door was closer to what I imagine "human cat food" would look like. Yummy. Balance Box isn't a cheap option and if I was going to dish out that much dough, I wanted to make sure I could choke it down. So armed with a £20 off coupon (easily found online), I tentatively ordered a week's worth of food to start. The first few days arrived in a boxed cooler. By day two, I went in and paid for the remainder of the month. It's THAT good. The food is fresh, interesting and 100% filling. I went for the 1200 calorie option (because why not trim up a bit while getting better?) and never felt hungry. However, they do have a 1600 calorie version as well. I straight up looked forward to each meal and keeping a balanced diet was a snap. I often skip meals because I get too busy and simply forget I haven't eaten until I am nearly dead with hunger, but this service makes popping food in to heat or wolfing down a salad foolproof. Within a few weeks, not only had I dropped a bit of weight but I was eating breakfast, lunch and dinner like a NORMAL person. If that seems odd to say, we've never met. It was a HUGE step for me. The only minor grumbles I have is that I find the dishes a little under seasoned and always have s&p or hot sauce on hand to spruce things up. Plus, their website is both the easiest and most confusing thing to navigate - ordering is a snap but you can't go back and see what dates you've ordered. That being said, the customer service is so darn pleasant, that it just takes a quick call to sort things out. I planned to stay on the plan for the four weeks of "big sick" but enjoyed it so much and felt so much better, that I ended up reworking my budget to keep a four day subscription going. It's not going to fit in everyone's budget. It's not going to be a rock solid option for those with little ones. But if you're looking to clean up your diet and find yourself looking for a solid delivery service: call them immediately. As for me, i'm a Balance Box addict. This is Lazy Gal, pro level.

There is a large free car park here where you can sit in your car with a hot drink looking across the view on a hot day. The food available is not fancy but perfect for after a walk, ie bacon rolls, chips, bugers. There is a range of hot and cold drinks and I am personally rather fond of the hot chocolate topped with foamy cream!! In the summer we normally opt for ice creams and they actually stayed open an extra couple of minutes one day to serve us as we arrived at closing time. Can get quite busy at peak times and this is a very popular spot for bikers though the clientele varies, from families both young and old, dog walkers and horse riders!

I quickly took some antihistamines, and spoke to a waiter who immediately got on the defence, but after insisting that I was indeed having a reaction (just because you can't see it on my face, doesn't mean it's not occurring inside), he spoke to the chef. When he returned the table, he began suggesting that perhaps I mixed spoons or cross contaminated the food myself. Yup, that totally happened to someone, living 25 years with a severe nut allergy. I totally understand that there's no guarantee, and I always take that into account. However I still always take extra precautions and choose dishes that are less likely to contain nut ingredients. As the waiter was in defence mode throughout, nothing came out of me reporting that incident to him. I'm pretty appalled with the way this was handled, especially in suggesting it could have been my fault and not taking any responsibility of a mistake that could indeed have happened in the kitchen. Other than that, I didn't believe the food was anything exceptional as a couple dishes (namely the palak paneer) did not look or taste fresh at all. The 2 stars are simply for the rest of my family suggesting the food was decent-ish. side note: the allergen menu contained various spelling mistakes to which one of my family members joked about trusting whether it was accurate...probably should have taken him seriously.

Places where the attitude is genuinely friendly and welcoming to its guests, but never too familiar are rare to come by, but at The Mehfil you'll find it. The food is a different chapter altogether. For breakfast we chose piping hot stuffed (potato or cauliflower) Parathas, which was served with yoghurt and a delicious tangy pickle. This was so yummy that we didn't even try their alternative, the full English breakfast, but i have to admit that from what i could see when i glanced briefly at the plates of other guests, it looked really good too. The Mehfil is food heaven if you're a fan of the Indian kitchen. When I think of us eating our evening meals there, I remember in a blur one sumptuous, gorgeous looking and divine- tasting meal after the other served by attentive waiters, and I really hope it's possible to attach pictures from my phone's gallery when I'm done writing. I will recommend this place no end, and look forward to our next visit. Incidentally, it's easy to get from the Mehfil to London Paddington. A 5 minute walk to the station, a 15 minute train ride and you're there, right in the centre of the touristy area, if that's what you're looking for.

Having teamed up with Percy Salazar, Eskimo Ice now offer ice sculpture, luges and can provide a full ice themed evening. No matter how innovative the idea Eskimo Ice is capable of putting together anything ice related.

My partner ordered a tuna mayo baguette. It arrived with a small side salad and chips. Delicious, she said. I ordered whitebait and, beeeg mistake, their version of British nachos. Chips, beautiful chips, covered in chilli beef and cheese. I say, beeeg mistake as the portions, of both, were huge. I couldn't finish it all. Having already placed a review on Trip Adviser, I was a little surprised to read one or two…read morenegative reviews thereon which I would totally disagree with. Taking visitors from New Zealand for lunch I had "stumbled" on the Chafford Arms after a fleeting internet search. I couldn't have done better had I spent many weeks researching. Excellent food, excellent service and friendly helpful staff made this a most enjoyable afternoon. We will no doubt return there and The Chafford Arms will be high on my list of recommendations.
