We hired Allison Accounting to prepare our 2025 tax returns. In previous years, we have typically…read morecompleted our taxes ourselves using tax software and, in hindsight, likely should have done so again this year. However, because of the added complexity created by an international move, we chose to engage professional services. We submitted all requested documentation in February and received our completed federal and state returns on March 16. Unfortunately, both returns contained significant errors. Following an extended phone conversation yesterday, we still do not feel confident in the accuracy of the revised returns. During that call, we were told that we should simply "trust that it is correct" because the preparer is a CPA with ten years of experience. This raises an obvious concern: if the revised return is now supposedly accurate because of that level of expertise, does that suggest the individual who initially prepared both incorrect returns lacked the necessary qualifications or oversight? Given that we paid nearly $500 for this service, we expected our returns to be prepared accurately and in a timely manner from the outset. It is deeply frustrating to have paid for professional tax preparation only to find ourselves identifying major errors on our own--errors involving thousands of dollars, not minor discrepancies.

This year, the fee went up, so I did not choose to go with the for my personal taxes, but did use them for four other tax returns my family needed that were pretty simple to complete. I had all paperwork submitted 3 weeks before the deadline with the $800 deposits. I have not heard anything from them and now it is 9 days after 4/15. No one will return my call.
