So both of my cats have always been very large boys. They're both alpha males and tend to fight. All of a sudden out of nowhere Bentley started losing weight, Which worried me terribly. I called to make an appointment and explain the situation and they got Bentley in an ambentley in in a matter of a week. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming as I entered the facility. Bentley had a very thorough check out although I had to leave him there for a year and test because you're in test because his bladder was empty And they couldn't get a sample. Come to find out my little baby here was stressed ostressed out most likely do to the 14 hour drive and living in hotels for 3 months while my home was being Built-in Conway. Bentley was given a couple prescriptions and is doing very well. I look forward to a long term relationship with this veterinarian for both my kitties. That was an ortho consult several years ago. He was condescending and fairly rude. Have seen him since and he was ok, so I assume it was a less than ideal day for him. The care is very good. My problem is this: They are way overbooked, even one of the ladies who answers the phone told me they don't have enough doctors for the number of clients they have. HIRE MORE. Or stop taking new clients. When I have a sick pet and am told by their vet that they can't schedule them in for two weeks - and to GO TO THE EMERGENCY VET - that's wrong. You are there to be a patient's regular vet, you don't treat them or their people this way. They are also one of the most expensive vets in the area. No wonder people can't afford some vet care.

I am extremely disappointed by my recent experience at this veterinary office…read more My husband previously spoke to the office and received permission for me to conduct a quiet virtual service-dog training session in the parking lot as long as my dog remained leashed. My dog is also a patient/client of this office, and the purpose of the session was to help desensitize him to the veterinary environment in a calm and controlled way with the guidance of our trainer over a live video call. We stayed in an outer grassy area away from other clients, animals, and vehicles. We had no interactions with anyone during the session and caused no disruption whatsoever. At the end of the session, while sitting at the back of my vehicle finishing the video call with my trainer and reviewing the session, a staff member approached us accusing us of "recording outside." I immediately clarified that I was not recording anything and showed her the live virtual training session on my phone. Despite this, the interaction quickly escalated and we were told we were no longer allowed to train there and were threatened with police involvement and trespassing. The staff member demanded my information in order to "remove my file". This interaction sent me into a medical episode and when the front desk staff were notified, they laughed instead of seeking medical assistance like a professional would be expected to. Instead, the staff called the Horry County Police Department and threatened with trespassing me unless I was making an appointment. Training for the mental well-being of my animal for future appointments but business and $ I fully understand a business's right to change or revoke permission regarding use of their property. However, the way this situation was handled felt unnecessarily confrontational and intimidating, especially considering we had prior permission, were not recording, and were simply working on training for a dog who is already a patient there. I hope this office reflects on how situations like this are approached in the future, particularly when dealing with clients involved in service-dog training and behavioral desensitization work. Aside from this incident, I will add that the previous times that my dogs (3) have been to this facility they have had hands-on contact with a vet for less than 5 minutes. I live nearby and thought convenience was worth it... it's not. Do yourself and your pet a favor, find a place that can see your pet when they're sick sooner than an appointment 2 weeks away.

As soon as I walked in, they got us right into the examination room which I appreciated so much. This prevented a lot of extra stress on my cat because she didn't have to see a bunch of other animals in a waiting room. Every single person who works here is so kind, empathetic and friendly. I also loved that this is a "no fear" establishment. This means that they didn't scruff my cat during the appointment and they were super gentle with her the whole time. They also brought her in a nice cardboard box to hide in to help calm her down and created a hiding spot with towels for her. My last vet didn't think to do any of this for my cat and they were so aggressive with her which is why we never went back. The people who work here were just very considerate and made me and my pet feel comfortable and well cared for. They were upfront about all costs which I appreciated as well. An added bonus, they have an outdoor patio area right outside the examination room (awesome if you have a dog) and it also allowed you to be able to walk right out to the parking lot instead of having to walk through the lobby which typically stresses animals out because they see other animals coming in. I can't recommend this place enough. You can definitely trust them with your fur babies and know in full confidence they are in good hands at River Oaks Animal Hospital. Thank you guys!

We visited this practice for the second time last week in Myrtle Beach from our vacation spot in Sunset Beach. Our first experience was a few years ago when Dr. Black saw our miniature schnauzer Katie, who was an ailing senior citizen. Dr. Black took all the time in the world to examine Katie and to educate my husband on what was going on with her health. She even called my husband after he had returned to Sunset Beach to suggest another medication that might be helpful, and had one of her technicians drop it off at the Food Lion parking lot on her way home! That is how considerate and compassionate she is. We returned last week with our newest mini schnauzer Josie, who had two sets of stitches from an unfortunate encounter with a fox, and our local vet wanted them removed before we returned from vacation. We were so happy to once again call on Dr. Black and enjoyed our experience even more. Her assistant Erika was so nice, and made us feel at home as we waited for Dr. Black. She gave us updates while we were waiting and was very gentle with Josie in getting her ready for her appointment. Dr. Black was as terrific as we remembered her, extremely caring, knowledgeable and gentle with Josie. She removed Josie's stitches and reported that Josie was a perfect patient, and was healing well from her injuries. She is not only a skilled medical professional, but also a very kind and relatable person. If you live in Myrtle Beach with your pet, you are very fortunate to have Dr. Black in your midst! Susan W

The behavior exhibited by Ms. Boggs toward an elderly couple looking to adopt a kitten is deeply concerning and, frankly, unacceptable for a professional representing an organization dedicated to animal welfare and community service. The couple in question had recently lost their beloved senior cat, a black and white tuxedo they had cared for over 18 years. This cat had diabetes for over a decade, and they diligently administered insulin and provided the highest level of care. They are clearly responsible and compassionate pet owners who wanted to provide a loving home to a new kitten. During the adoption process, they disclosed that they had previously declawed their cats, which they only did due to a serious medical condition. The husband has a heart condition that requires him to take blood thinners, making even minor scratches a potential medical emergency. Despite this legitimate medical concern, Ms. Boggs reacted with hostility. She berated and insulted this couple, treating them with extreme disrespect. She even went as far as to state that she would no longer work with their veterinary clinic--a statement that not only seems inappropriate but also unprofessional, considering the veterinary clinic only performs declawing in special cases where a medical necessity is present. While I fully understand and respect the Grand Strand Humane Society's stance on declawing, there is no justification for treating potential adopters in such a degrading and dismissive manner, particularly an elderly couple who were seeking to provide a loving home to an animal in need. A humane society should foster education and compassion, not judgment and hostility. If Ms. Boggs' conduct is reflective of the organization's values, then it raises serious concerns about how the Grand Strand Humane Society treats its community members no matter how sanctimonious she may feel about her actions. However, if her behavior was an isolated incident, then I trust appropriate corrective measures, such as retraining on professional conduct and customer service, will be taken to ensure this doesn't happen to another customer. I am in no way suggesting or advocating for all owners to declaw their cats--let me make that clear. I just feel this could have been handled in a more professional manner. You can say no without a savior complex. I reached out to the Grand Strand Humane Society directly and they have ignored my correspondence. If you wish to adopt, and not be treated like trash, use another location because this one lacks basic decency.
