We took our precious Champ to Dunes Veterinary Clinic after a long road trip from LA (our home). We knew he had advanced kidney failure but we had been treating it for a long time. He stopped eating once we arrived, and we took him in to Dunes at my parents recommendation. I'm so glad we did.
The vet was so kind and patient as he confirmed our worst fears. Champ was suffering and he needed us to make the hardest decision we'd have to make. I knew he was right, but I wasn't ready. I asked if we could make an appointment to put him down in a few days. They accommodated us very well, and made the entire experience seamless and easy. Once we got home and saw how poorly he was doing, we changed our minds and asked if we could come in the following day. They said, "of course," and accommodated us again.
The day of was so heartbreaking and we were completely shattered. But they made it as supportive as they possibly could have. They gave us as much time as we needed, were incredibly kind, and the space was nice. No one bothered us and it was very quiet. We cried and said goodbye to our little love. They took care of everything after that.
After a few days, we came back to pick up Champ's ashes. We donated his stuff to them, and they said they would put it all to good use. His ashes came in a beautiful wooden box, with a lovely poem, his paw prints, some information, and a bereavement card that was signed by everyone in the office. It was so sweet, we cried fresh all over again. How they treated us and Champ like old friends, when we had never been there before. We'll be forever grateful for their kindness and compassion, and I'll never forget it. read more
