Fast friendly and affordable. Thank you for being so efficient. I was able to pull into the smog shop and get assisted right away.

Came to Convoy Smog by the recommendation of my dad. Hey, you can't get a better one than from your priest, minister or rabbi, right? They have two dedicated parking spaces in front of the shop. Once you check in, you are directed to pull up to the door. There is a small "waiting room" with five seats. You are able to see everything that the inspector does from walking around the vehicle and checking under the engine with a mirror to hitting the accelerator for the test itself. It is nerve racking to see the exhaust come out the back to see if your car will pass but I liked that you knew exactly what was going on and being done. Thankfully, my car passed. There was another vehicle that the technician was working on simultaneously as mine. Jimmy was all business. Didn't chit chat. He was very process oriented. He got down to business but he was pleasant. I arrived ten minutes to 8 am on a Saturday. I wanted to try and be the first person so I could get in and out quickly. The entire process from check in to paying took exactly 15 minutes. The service costs approx $55 with the certificate. I would most definitely recommend and will be a return customer. Good job Dad!

Z best smog station in San Diego!

Convoy Smog is by far the best Star smog test and repair station in San Diego. A few weeks ago, my 1990 Nisan 300ZX failed smog at a test-only station (NOx at 25 MPH was a little high). Several repair shops didn't want to help because (1) mechanics and tools of that OBD1 era are hard to find, and (2) this particular car is notoriously hard to work on. So, I was pleasantly surprised when Yaro at Convoy Smog agreed to take a look. He checked the engine and EGR and then pretested it for emissions: NOx was on the borderline...but might pass. So, I said go ahead with the test, which he did - and to my extreme relief the car passed! Oh, and he charged less than the station that failed me. Yaro's courtesy, technical expertise, and above all honesty really impressed me. Other places wanted $300+ to run a diagnostic plus they'd need the car a few days. So, for any smog testing or smog repair needs you may have, be sure to visit Convoy Smog. This is a great shop - you'll be glad you did.

### Late review/reviewed during COVID-19 ### SUMMARY: 4/5 Fast and friendly. Came here for my work car and will come back again (per instructions from my company of course, lol). ------------------------------------ This review is way overdue and I have since forgotten the man that helped me. Although, he was still helpful and gladly applied my (Yelp? company? I forgot, hah) discount. Smog shop is located where Evans Tire is in Convoy, so it is easy to find. I came as soon as they open and smog itself was completed rather fast. I was given the receipt and the paperwork I required, which was the Smog cert. Will come here again should my work instructs me to do so in the future.

My experience here was great . I was in & out quickly . No fuss , right down to business . I was treated nicely from the kind man working as well as the other sweet customers their having their car serviced . I did a check in on yelp and saved with their coupon for yelp check-in . I am grateful because now a days every dollar counts that you can save . Yay! I passed my smog test too ;) Courteous service & a seating area deserves 5 Star review . I'll be back , but not for a few years . lol

15 minute smog! Quick and easy :)

They were super friendly, and I felt like I was in and out in less than the 15 minutes they promised. Not from here, so I can't say if the value was good or bad, but I feel like this is the normal price to pay for a smog check and I will absolutely bring my future cars there!

I really liked the fast courteous service and fair prices for a smog check. I will use them again the next time I need a smog check.

1 stop shop for old and new cars with great service. Small little place, but they knock it out pretty quick.

(1200 for radiator and hoses) * Shortly afterward: While driving, the hood unexpectedly opened, damaging the hood and shattering the windshield and almost causing wreck on freeway. * I had the vehicle independently inspected for approximately $200 after the shop initially denied responsibility. The inspection found many loose peaces of hardware relating to the radiator repair and the hood latch had been left loose. * After further discussion and inspection, Brake Stop accepted responsibility for the hood failure and agreed to repair the resulting damage. * The Jeep remained at the shop for nearly three weeks while the repairs were completed. Communication during this period was frustratingly limited, with me generally having to call for updates. * 8/27/26: I picked up the Jeep. The hood, windshield, hood struts and hood release cable had been repaired/replaced at no cost to me, and reluctantly reimbursed my $200 inspection expense. Did not offer refund for botched repairs Ultimately, I appreciate that the owner took responsibility and made the vehicle right. However, the original incident was extremely stressful and could have been dangerous, and I was disappointed that the vehicle was released after the radiator repair with the hood latch apparently not properly secured.

On 4/14 I brought in an Escalade after replacing the rear brakes because it started throwing multiple warning lights, even though the ABS sensor and brakes were already replaced. I understand newer vehicle technology can sometimes cause glitches even with simple repairs, so I trusted they'd be able to diagnose and fix it. They charged a $130 diagnostic fee, which I was completely fine with. The next day, they said they needed to reset the computer for $390. Since I had already paid for the diagnostic and was told it would go toward the repair, I agreed. The following day, I was told they couldn't reset it and that I'd need a new module for $3,468.54. I declined and decided to get a second opinion from our regular mechanic. I still paid the $390 plus a $13.65 service charge, which I later found out was a credit card fee. The next day, I took the vehicle to our regular mechanic. Within 2 hours, they cleared the stored codes and the vehicle was ready, total cost: $120. No waiting days, no module replacement, and no unnecessary upsell. I waited a couple of weeks before writing this review to make sure the issue didn't come back, and also spoke with Barry to see if anything could be done about the $403.65 I paid. I felt it was unfair to be charged for a service that ultimately wasn't completed. I would've been completely fine just paying the $130 diagnostic fee. Unfortunately, he declined, stating the charge was for their time. I understand time was spent, but from a business standpoint, I wouldn't feel right charging a client for a repair that wasn't successfully completed, especially when the vehicle left in the same condition it arrived. Because of this experience, I wouldn't return or recommend this shop to others. I think it's important for people to know that you may end up paying for work that doesn't actually resolve the issue.
