On the day of our wedding, our hope was to follow the timeline we had carefully planned so that we could maximize time with our guests. Although our coordinator reassured us things were on track, the buffet ended up starting later than expected. Because of that delay, our reception ended with much less dancing time than we had envisioned. We had chosen a buffet in part because we were told it would be quicker than a plated dinner, but that unfortunately wasn't the case. We share this not to take away from how beautiful and memorable our day was, but because we believe The Mill has all the ingredients to deliver a truly seamless experience. With improved communication and a little more focus on time management, future couples will be able to enjoy every aspect of what makes this venue so special--the incredible food, stunning setting, and joyful atmosphere.

For a 32,000+ square foot mansion (that was originally built as a single family private home) the space is immaculately and meticulously clean and maintained to the highest standard. I did not see a single speck of dust, no cobwebs on the soaring ceilings, or stain on any upholstery. The mansion also did not feel austere or cavernous despite its size; on the contrary, it is absolutely bursting with some of the most beautiful, unique, and at times strange but wonderful decor. For example, the game room has both billiards as well as an extensive and exotic big game taxidermy collection, whereas the adjacent two-story library boasts a hand carved fireplace and a spiral wrought iron staircase. I spent most of my evening exploring every room and trying to take in as much as possible. The multitude of staff who serviced our event were both warm in their interactions as well as discreet when necessary. The in-house catering was also very good. We had a tortellini station, a raw bar, breads and spreads, as well as passed hors d'oeuvres and a dessert station, and I enjoyed everything I tried. My only regret is that Dover Hall doesn't seem to do open house hours or guided tours, because I would love to be able to return and see more of this remarkable building.

I contacted them several days in advance to voice my concerns, in an effort to limit their likely loss around the event, and be able to reschedule. They stated a desire to wait, it turns out until 3 hours before the event, maximizing the financial impact of the decision on their business and their customers. While they offer a 50% future credit, I was forced to decide between dining in a natural disaster vs being out $150. Ironically, those who tipped more lost out on more money. I contacted them to address my concerns, and they ghosted me. They do not insure their events, so in the event of a natural disaster, your pre-paid event (Wedding, Business event, workout, dinner) is your responsibility and you will be out your money. Book with caution. Do not pre-tip.

Multiple vehicles were parked on the grass, and several cars, including mine, ended up blocked in. Instead of handling the situation professionally, Tabitha walked around the pool yelling for the driver of a white Toyota Camry. I drive a white Toyota Corolla, so I didn't think she was referring to my vehicle. She continued calling out "Camry" for several minutes before eventually shouting the license plate number and saying the vehicle would be towed. That's when I realized she was actually talking about my car. I calmly explained that the confusion was caused by her repeatedly identifying the wrong make of vehicle. Rather than acknowledging the misunderstanding, she was rude and dismissive. She told me that if I didn't agree with her, I could leave the pool. Mistakes happen, but the way this situation was handled was completely unprofessional. A simple correction or apology would have resolved the issue. Instead, I was met with poor customer service and an unnecessarily hostile attitude. I hope Sunset Cove addresses how situations like this are handled in the future and expects a higher standard of professionalism from its management.

My husband and I wanted an outdoor venue, and I had always envisioned a reception under a big tent. The Manor House and Eagles Perch provided a beautiful outdoor ceremony backdrop, and a large tent for the reception. Our wedding was a multicultural affair, with a good amount of moving parts...outfit changes, cultural diversity, and the like. Christina handled everything we wanted to do with grace and the utmost professionalism. When we wanted a particular dining style, which proved to be logistically difficult, Christina and Chef Jeff made alternative arrangements which worked out perfectly. While we are not nitpicky people, we had a specific vision, and the entire crew at Celebrations carried out our vision to a T. Our guests continue to rave about the beautiful venue, the food, and about how much fun they had during our wedding. I am positive that much of the reason for our day being a success and so memorable was because of the professional and experienced folks at Celebrations. They really can provide top notch service, a beautiful venue, and good food.

Signage is super confusing when you first pull in - it's really narrow one-lane roads/paths throughout and it's like a maze, one where you can't turn around you just have to loop through... So the signs need to be more clear and much larger and say it's one-way or "do not go this way" because if someone messes up and goes the wrong way - you'd have to back up or drive off the asphalt and into grass and tree roots on steep declines, um no. One of my best friends got married last weekend at the Heron's View waterfront gazebo with her reception at the outdoor Garden site which has a beautiful gazebo and a wooded water path walk over the water which is very picturesque but when you park in the gravel lot you have to walk a loooong way and once you get to the "celebration" tented area it's all pine needles and roots with no specific path from the gravel lot to the tables, chairs, dance floor, or wooden bridge. With guests in heels and long dresses, they should have a clear path for people to walk easily on to get down to the water and wooden bridge. The "bridal suite" and bathroom area in this location is very rudimentary, small, and rustic shed. It's much nicer inside than expected once we got inside - but it's super small. Our party was 3 bridesmaids and 1 bride and with the four of us and our things, it was a tight fit. For people who have 10+ bridesmaids, you couldn't possibly fit the people in there at all. But it does have a nice one-person bathroom area, AC, and new finished inside so I was pleasantly surprised once we got into it day of. I was one of the three bridesmaids and we had an hour-long rehearsal the night before on site with their on-site coordinator who was very kind and organized. She was easy to work with and kept things running smoothly. The event started promptly at 6pm the following day and was scheduled to go until 11pm for a water/boat send off. The coordinator kept everything on track and we started right on time and stayed on track most of the night. She also easily made adjustments to the schedule as she saw a lot of guests leaving early so the bouquet toss, cake cutting and boat sendoff were all moved to about an hour earlier than planned but went very smoothly and allowed for my friend's photos of those events to still have people in them before everyone left but the bridesmaids... haha. The food provided for the event was basic but very good. We had warm rolls, grilled chicken, green beans, ceasar salad, mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese with tea, water, soda and lemonade. The guests were served buffet-style by the staff and the head of food service was friendly and engaging, after we all ate she walked around and offered to clear plates, made small-talk, and brought drink refills to the wedding party. She was awesome. The wooded and lakefront location in Midlothian, VA is beautiful. As another reviewer noted - it feels like it's secluded and private but it's in the middle of a largely populated area with major neighborhoods nearby with hundreds of homes. It's on a large lake in the Brandermill/Woodlake neighborhoods which means it's close to Richmond and there is plenty in the way of food, hotels, fun, and shopping nearby for guests and attendees who might be coming from far away to attend or bridal party last-minute needed emergency items. I've always loved this area and my cousins grew up here so it was a pleasure to come back and see the lake area again after 20+ years. Overall, my friend's event was beautiful and this is a gorgeous event space. A few things can be done for improvement but I imagine they would be very costly so, for what it is, they're doing a great job and producing beautiful weddings for people with friendly staff members. My friend is very happy with how her wedding turned out and, in the end, that is all that matters.

My coworker, whose wedding we attended, blocked rooms out at the Holiday Inn on Midlothian Turnpike near Johnston-Willis Hospital just a few minutes away. The home dates back to the mid to late 1800s with a barn nearby. The wedding we attended yesterday had the ceremony in the barn. It was truly a special place with light filtering in through cracks in the wood. After the ceremony the guests made their way over to the reception area on the far side of the house. A tent connects with the house, allowing guests to travel back and forth under cover, which was important yesterday as there was a bit of rain. There are beautiful grounds including a gazebo and a fire pit. The staff was very attentive and the food was great. There were about 190 people at this wedding and it never felt crowded. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a wedding venue.
