Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport - ROA

A teeny tiny airport in Roanoke. You don't want to be there any longer than you have to be, because…read morethere is nothing to do there, and not too many food options. The good thing about this airport is that there were zero people in the security line when I was there on a weekday morning. I just walked right in and was done within minutes. Once you're past security, there is one restaurant / coffee shop, and a sundry store. The rest is pretty much just gates and seating and a pair of restrooms. There is a lactation station next to the women's restroom, which is nice to see. I was going to sit on the floor and do some stretching, but the carpet is not the cleanest! I guess it's fine for stepping on, but I didn't want to sit on it.

Roanoke regional airport is a small regional airport that serves the cities of Roanoke and…read moreBlacksburg, Virginia. The cities are also served by Amtrak, but better to fly in. It was my first time at this airport on a March 2026 trip. I initially flew into DCA airport and took an Amtrak to Roanoke to save money. To get home, I decided to fly out of Roanoke. It was a 15 minute drive from Tanglewood Mall/Roanoke where my hotel was via Uber. I had an 6am flight out of ROA and was up at 3:45am to check out of my hotel and at the airport by 4:25am. At the airport, foot traffic that morning was light and I quickly went through TSA security, although at the time, the 2026 government shutdown was in full affect. Still is. The wait through security was longer than I expected, especially at 4:45am on a Monday morning. Thankfully, I had to wait just about 15 extra minutes before everyone was processed and we were off to our gates for the morning flights out of ROA. The airport itself is rather small, boasting at most 6 gates for out bound and inbound flights. ROA currently serves Delta, American, United, and Allegiant airlines with various destinations on the central and eastern time zones. I had enough time to get through security that I got myself breakfast that morning at one of their small airport shops. For the most part though, it was nice to have this airport near Roanoke and not have to Amtrak it back to Washington DC or Baltimore to fly home. While it can be cost prohibitive to fly in and out of Roanoke, the fact that it's here for convenience makes it worth it especially the time commitments. ROA airport is a cute little regional airport that serves southwest Virginia. Nothing else like it! The overall experience at the Roanoke-Blacksburg regional airport was typically good and okay. I actually had time that morning, so I just sat in the ticketing area for 15 minutes before going through the tsa security checkpoint. It's always nice having the Pre check when going through that each time. It sucked when I had to wait in line when even the tsa pre check line was delayed and merged with the regular line. Ugh, the temporary standstill was blah but eventually it moved and everyone got processed. The airport itself was small enough so you can probably get to the airport within 1 hour of departure and still make it on time, but things had to be perfectly timed for that to happen. The restaurants at ROA airport were good and decent. Not much variety though, but if you are there for a morning flight, you have limited options here. If I ever fly in or out of ROA airport in the future, I may want to visit the airport bar and discover what they have. The airport itself is very clean and the airport arrival departure info is updated as frequently as it needs to be. Travel can be chaotic, but for me at ROA airport in March 2026. For the most part though, I made my experience at the airport to the best of my ability. Got to my gate with plenty of time and had time to pick up breakfast and still had time for the restroom before boarding. Small regional airports are cool like that. ROA airport is the ideal airport to fly in and out of if you need to be in the southwest Virginia area. It can be competitive with other larger airports in the area, but if you need peace of mind or a flexible schedule, you can consider ROA airport as your final destination. Roanoke-Blacksburg regional airport sits near the city of Roanoke, Virginia. Its physical address is 5212 Aviation Drive NW in Roanoke. Access to the airport is limited. Only ticketed passengers can have access to the departure gates after passing thru the tsa checkpoints. Although the traveling public has access to the ticketing lobby, its activity is limited to those who have a legitimate reason for being at the airport terminal. As far as parking goes, there are parking garages nearby for those who need parking and cellphone parking lots for people picking up their friends or family arriving into ROA airport. If you are like me, there is public transportation to and from the ROA airport. Take route 25 from the airport and it'll take you to the third street bus terminal, where you will transfer to your final destination. And there's always Uber and Lyft services at the airport for your convenience. And so, if you love flying and need to be in the Roanoke, Virginia area, consider the hometown airport for your travel needs. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! A+

Also, there are fewer flight options, so I'm going to CRW more often now, but when I can, I fly through GVA. Free parking! No lines! Friendly TSA folks! It has a very cute, extremely short baggage band! The restrooms are nice and clean, and there are a variety of comfy chairs to sit in if you need to wait. The Greenbrier has a shuttle for guests if you are staying there. There is also a Mexican restaurant that appears to have good hours. We ate there once and it was pretty good! So far in my experience they have a good track record for on time departures and arrivals. Fun fact, it is graded to handled Air Force One for when the President visits the Greenbrier. All of the staff are friendly and professional. Two caveats, be there 45 minutes before BOARDING to load checked baggage and it does sometimes seem like the TSA rules change arbitrarily --but that's not on the local staffers.

It also services The Greenbrier Resort with their shuttle service to and from the resort. The restaurant there is fantastic with fresh and artisan creations that would satisfy any palate. They even have vegetarian options. Bathroom and the airport in general is very clean. They even have at least 2 rental car service desks through Hertz and Enterprise. I always see lots of private aircraft when I'm here and they've got gray outdoor seating so you can wave off passengers or taken in the view. There's a fair amount of WV made chairs and art, which were quality nice pieces. Parking is abundant and directly in front of the terminal so no long walks or shuttles to take. I took off one star because when you call the airport it's impossible to get a hold of a live person. Even if you're trying to get clarity on your United flight you're re-routed through a United Call Center and they can't tell you anymore then your phone can about flights. Also, they usually fly to DC and Chicago. At some point the DC flight was dropped for the season but there was no way to confirm or find out since it's impossible to speak to a live person by calling the airport. I hope they get this worked out.

This airport is one of a few in the state that has commercial airlines service. The regional airport itself was small, boasting about 14 gates in 3 concourses. I arrived here at 4:30am for a 6:00am flight to Atlanta. I quickly got thru TSA security and there was basically nobody open for breakfast, only the one that was selling bottled beverages and some sandwiches. I purchased a couple of sandwiches and a ice tea and the total cost was around $25.00. I was sticker shocked but what can you do when you're hungry and at the airport. I thought that the airport itself was nice and small. You can get in and to your gate within 15 minutes or so, depending on the time of day. The airport itself doesn't have much of food vendors but it has its options if you are stuck and can't leave the airport. For the most part though, my time here at Charleston Yeager regional airport was brief, but it was nice. Although the sticker shock of a breakfast left a disappointing note in my wallet, it is West Virginia and the airport. Tends to get pricey after a while. Still, it was the convenience that made it somewhat worth the price paid. The airport itself was well maintained and was aesthetically pleasing. You could navigate fairly easily by following the signs to your gate and to baggage claim. It was a good experience, even though I was heading home. The overall experience here at the Charleston Yeager regional airport was very chill that November morning. The airport building seemed to be one large terminal that was sectioned into 3 concourses. There was airport wifi here, but I just stuck to my carrier's signal working while waiting for my flight out of Charleston. I enjoyed the comfort of being in a small regional airport. Ease of navigation and just getting to the gate as timely as possible was a good thing compared to other larger airports in the country. The seats at the gate area was comfortable and there was a couple of charging stations as well. I didn't stay long to do much, since I wanted to depart as soon as possible. Charleston Yeager regional airport is as cozy as they come, when it comes to airports. They also have restrooms and some water fountain dispensers for those of you who like to refill your water bottles. And so, if you are looking into coming to West Virginia for vacation, business, or anything else in between, consider the quick way by flying into Charleston Yeager (CRW) regional airport. Charleston Yeager regional airport sits on the eastern side of the city of Charleston, West Virginia. It takes about 15 minutes from the downtown area to get to the airport, driving wise. It's physically located at 100 Airport Road in Charleston. The vendors that are there, they accept major credit cards as well as cash. It's pretty easy for anyone to pick up their friends outside after picking up the baggage at baggage claim. Not sure if they have a cell phone lot, but if they're in the area, it shouldn't be more than a 10 minute wait. I got here thru an Uber who started his day at 3:45am that morning. It was good to have that service to the airport. And so, if you are vacationing or have business in West Virginia, consider your first stop in the state here in Charleston. It's one of West Virginia's larger commercial airports, but has that small regional vibe that makes you not want to leave. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! A+

Painful travel day today from CRW. Snow and weather made things suck!…read more According to our pilot, the airport had 1 ground crew servicing 4 planes. Also how hard would it be to have 2 de-icing trucks? Create a car wash type effect? Our plane arrived 6 hours late and still sat on the ground another 2 1/2 hours with ground delays. The airport is tired. It needs a refresh of some sort.

She only was attacking my bag and basically didn't want to see it at all. I pointed out other bags and she didn't care. She told me kick my bag a little more under the seat so I dramatically kicked it and then she said "that wasn't necessary". I could see people from other seats looking at me and judging. I didn't like that either. Then my first leg from Hartford to DC. The guy next to me had his rolling carryon under the seat and his backpack in his lap the entire time. That didn't make me feel safe and I'm not a snitch but multiple flight attendants walked by and said nothing. So the airline is inconsistent and I will never take it again. I only flew United bc of a last minute mishap with my job for a work trip. I will stick with American and/or Delta!!

I am impressed with the friendly and professionalism of the peowork with ticking, gate, baggage or the flight crew Roanoke valley is not an easy area to have regular service into or out of. The Mountains and weather conditions are a big cause of most of the problems travelers have at ROA. Unlike some of the big airports, you will find the people here in Roanoke to be more caring of their visitors needs and willing to reach out to help. If you are traveling through Roanoke you would be wise to have a backup plan in case of delays from weather. In poor weather I look to driving and flying through Dulles, Charlotte or Greensboro airports. You can call United 24 hours before your flight and they often will change your ticket for no charge if there is poor weather coming.

I also have to give a shout out to management as on one prior visit I had a canceled flight and had to stick around an extra day and they could not have been nicer in making sure I had a clean room to come back to on extremely short notice. Thanks! As you can see from my pictures, the digs are quite nice, complete with some really stellar toiletries, kitchen, ample space and REALLY friggin comfy beds if you are into a more soft mattress. I typically hate all hotel beds. They make me miss home immediately, but the mattresses here are legit. The bar and restaurant 'The Asylum' is right next door with a huge beer selection and decent grub. The owners of this hotel own the bar as well, but it is also within easy walking distance to downtown Lewisburg where there are ample options for both food and bars if you want to explore a bit. The price is a bargain for how nice of a place it is to post up. You are crazy to stay at one of the local hotels Escape has a vacancy. However, many visitors are not aware Escape even exists since its not listed on many of the travel sites. This suits me just fine as I want to always have a room waiting for me when I am in town.

Abominable customer service (e.g., counter reps who are utterly unprofessional, unhelpful, and even mean-spirited). Spouse was on her own traveling to visit family, checked in online the night before, and paid in advance for a checked bag. Peace of mind, taking care of business, etc., right? However, when she arrived to the counter (no line, casual Saturday morning vibes), the rep said she was too late to check the bag she'd paid for and that her options were 1) to drive to Charlotte (which is where her ROA flight was going, anyway) or 2) to leave her luggage (one suitcase, nothing out of the ordinary) behind. The rep said they would NOT be able to issue a red tag for an overhead/stowed carry-on for her. Yet, inexplicably, they continued to issue red tags for other customers moments later. My spouse took her luggage to the car and decided to catch the ROA-CLT flight. American Airlines told her that her decision to leave the luggage in her car posed a "security risk." Why would they say such a thing? Meanwhile you cannot reach anyone by phone at ROA nor at American Airlines customer service to grasp why a prepaid bag wouldn't be accommodated and why, to make matters even more stressful, someone would say the decision to leave the luggage behind in the car (which they had minutes earlier advised her to do) would characterize it off-handedly as a security risk.
