london-currency-exchange(dot)com located inside the Robert Q…read more Really bad attitude towards clients. I was ordering Fijian dollars & mentioned that when I had ordered Indonesian Rupiah last year, the guy brought out India Rupees by mistake. I corrected him & he gave me Rupiah. The problem was, some of the currency was outdated & no longer in circulation; therefore, not spendable in Bali. It was a real hassle to deal with. In Bali, they would only exchange US bills newer than 2006. So, I asked the lady today if we could order newer bills, in order not to have that happen again. She said no. Then I asked if they would buy them back without charging an exchange rate, if I found any of their notes to be out of circulation and worthless as currency. She told me that she could not make decisions for the owner & that it was his business & only he could make that decision. I ordered $1,000 Fijian dollars. The owner, John, called me back & wanted to know why I had asked about newer bills & he wanted to be sure I'd still buy them if they weren't newer. Again, I explained what happened in Bali. I told him his employee didn't have authority to tell me that they would make it right if the bills weren't spendable, & that she had gotten very defensive when I asked. John was down right hostile as well as defensive. I made a remark about understanding the lady's defensiveness, because it seemed to be his company's culture. He got really angry, said, "Why would you say that?!" Then he refused to order me in any currency at all. They are not the only game in town, & people are not limited to using the currency exchange at the Robert Q. Making a mistake is understandable, not being able to address it without defensiveness & anger, does not make good customer service policy. What's great about this happening, is that I found out that the Royal Bank will order you in any currency you want and they were 5% cheaper in the exchange rate! $50 per thousand is a lot of money to save by avoiding the bad customer service at London Currency Exchange.

For large amounts of cash or cheque conversions, from the rates they quoted, it seems that RBC and TD rates are more competitive. With TD you get a better rate if you have a USD account (but you pay a dollar for the transaction, which is not much and worth it in my opinion). Overall, the service was pleasant. I would say go to Global Currency if you are in a hurry and are exchanging small amounts of cash. If you are doing large cheques or large amounts of cash, from the rate they quoted I would suggest sticking with your local RBC or TD bank.

Very rude service- avoid them at all costs. They are good at trying to convince you that they have…read morethe better rate. But what I found was that they cannot match my banks rate. When I was in their store they quoted a rate to me. I then called my bank to confirm who had the better rate. I was surprised that my bank offered multiple rates of exchange. I then quoted these rates to Global Currency and they couldn't match the rates. They said that I was bette This is what I learned from my bank: If you have a TD Waterhouse or TD Direct Investing account you automatically get a preferred US exchange rate. If you have TD US Account (free just keep $1,000 US in there, or pay a $1US per transaction) you also get a better rate then the cash rate. If you have a TD Borderless US account (free for accounts with $3,000 US plus, or a $4.94 US a month) you also get a preferred exchange rate. So, when I learned that I could get preferred rates by having a TD US account I opened one up with $200 US. Knowing that I'm getting a better rate then then cash rate, I don't mind paying $1US per transaction. Also it says me time because I can do the exchanges online (account to account), and I don't have to worry about negotiating rates, or finding the best rate- TD does it all for me.
