Recently had a horrible experience with a new receptionist named Evelyn. I had a 2 pm appointment, and got stuck in traffic on Rt 32 on my way. The traffic was literally at a standstill. I called ten minutes before my appointment and was advised they have a 10 minute grace window. I called back at 2:10 to advise that I was just down the street and would be arriving in two minutes. I was told very rudely that I'd have to reschedule, even though after arriving I could see my hygienist was available. I advised the receptionist that I had driven over 50 minutes to get to Contemporary Dentistry from Colchester. She began to argue with me that she lived in Montville and it was only 30 minutes to Colchester. I tried to show her on my GPS from where I live the driving time and distance, and she accused me of shoving my phone in her face, which wasn't the case at all. I was simply trying to explain to her and show her that I drove a long way to get to the office and just wanted a cleaning. She insisted that I needed to reschedule. The reason I was given for having to reschedule was that the Hygenist needed additional time for my appointment to do x-rays. I told the receptionist I didn't have any problems with my teeth and I just wanted a cleaning and I would get my x-rays on my next visit in six months The receptionist advised me that it was a Connecticut state law that I had to get full dental x-rays every five years, which I really questioned. I asked to speak to the office manager, Jessica because the receptionist Evelyn was being unreasonable in my opinion . Jessica advised me that it is not a Connecticut state law that x-rays have to be taken every five years or patients can't be treated. After speaking to Jessica, it was approximately 2:30 PM, and Jessica politely scheduled me for another appointment next week. This was after Evelyn rudely advised me she would not schedule me. I've been going to Contemporary Dentistry since 1985 when Dr. Tiberri owned the practice, and prior to the practice being sold to Dr. Sanfilippo. I have always had good experiences, and have given many 5 star reviews in the past forContemporary Dentistry, but this new receptionist named Evelyn does not represent the practice well. I'm appalled at all the 1-star reviews on here. I was a patient of Dr. Nasser for about five years before I had to move away. Will never find a dentist like that again! They're very accommodating. The first time I came here, it was due to a chipped tooth that I needed fixed immediately. They were able to fit me in the day after I called, as a new patient. Fixed my tooth that day and I stayed a patient of theirs until I had to move. The front desk staff, the doctors (both Dr. Nasser and Dr. Sanfilippo), and my hygienist (Caitlin) were absolutely wonderful - very friendly, professional, and warm. They're thorough and compassionate. I felt like a person and I felt truly cared for. I have always been treated fairly and have never felt pressured into any treatments I didn't need. They worked with me to help me understand what my insurance plan did/did not cover in terms of preventative care. Nobody is a fan of going to the dentist, let's face it. But, the warm and friendly atmosphere at Contemporary Dentistry, coupled with the skills and expertise of Caitlin and Dr. Nasser, made me feel completely at ease every visit. I never dreaded coming here and enjoyed this place as much as one can enjoy going to the dentist. read more

Office pushes unnecessary procedures --- fluoride treatment on my kids in this case. I asked if it was necessary for my kids to have it and office said yes. Even though it is elective and not necessary to have twice a year. My insurance covers for once a year. Of course office doesn't care and sent me bill for the second treatment, saying I'm on the hook to pay it. read more

I was their patient for almost 2 years as I thought they were caring, but eventually I realized that I was lied to for such a long time. I care a lot about my dental health, therefore have visited them every six month. But, each time all they offered was cleaning and cleaning and cleaning of my teeth. They were claiming I have no other issues and all I need is these cleanings; this negligence is despite the fact that they already took my X-ray images. For this sub-service they charged me high fees and sent my insurance hefty bills; which quickly depleted me of my annual deductibles. It was only after I changed my Dentist (due to change of insurance) that I have realized I have been lied to all along. My new dentist mentioned how severe my teeth status was and devised a solid plan to address all unaddressed issues in a series of visits. An example of neglect by Contemporary Dentistry was that they did not mention to me that my teeth need filling. Since they failed in their duty to spot the issue and take care of it, my new Doctor had to fill five of my teeth and do a root canal on the other. It was as if I have not been seen by any dentist for these two years! The latter tooth's root, became infected, terribly painful, and adversely affected my sinus and overall health as well. I agree with the first reviewer, If you need your teeth cleaned Contemporary Dentistry is great and the staff is super friendly. Make sure when they refer you to a specialist there within your insurance network. Twice now they have recommend a periodontist and endodontic both of which were outside my network. After educating myself on Med-life insurance and putting the brakes on having a root canal done out of network I've save hundreds of dollars. I phoned contemporary dentistry and asked why I was referred to dentists outside my insurance network and she said "its the specialist we are the most comfortable with and its the patient responsibility to see if there within there network. My translation to that is contemporary is hooking up there buddy's down the street and hopefully the patient won't catch on to the decrease in insurance coverage. So far contemporary has cost me an extra 3 to 4 hundred dollars following there dentist recommendations. All I can say is hang on to your wallet and read your insurance policy. read more

I really wanted to like them. They were great with cleanings and the staff was super friendly. However when I went to them for more extensive work they were awful! They like to refer you to specialists which ends up costing you lots more. I had an old cavity refilled by Dr. Sanphilipo she drilled the hole too deep and a few months later I had terrible pain in my tooth. She took an X-ray and had me go to two specialist all to find out that her drilling the hole too deep caused my tooth to crack and I had to have a root canal. I had to pay for both specialists a consultation fee for something that wasn't even necessary. Another time I needed a new crown on a tooth that had a root canal done years ago. She started then said she was uncomfortable drilling the hole for the crown because my tooth was week. She said "to save us time and money " she wanted me to see an endodontist and have them drill the hole then she would finish it. The endodontist was confused but drilled the whole. For Dr. Sanphilipo to do the entire crown it was supposed to be $350 with insurance. The endodontist charged me $390 just to drill the hole! Then I had to pay $350 to Dr. Sanphilipo as well. The crown that she did was terrible too! It was one of my front teeth and she shaved it down more than the other so they are uneven after I spent all of that money. I would not recommend Contemporary dentistry to anyone unless all you need is a cleaning. If they recommend you see a gum specialist for gum or to have part of a procedure done please opt for another dentist to save yourself money. read more
