I stopped using them and moved my money to a credit union recently. I had been with Fifth-Third for…read moreat least 20 years. There are many reasons I left, but here are the top ones: 1) Fifth Third is pulling out of small towns in SW Michigan, leaving only an ATM behind, if that. 2) At the branches I use, there's constant turnover of the tellers. To me, that means they're not paid or treated very well. 3) Corporate spends LOTS of $$ on political lobbying in Washington and Lansing. Also contributes mostly to candidates from one political party. More info here: https://www.goodsuniteus.com/company/-LX7m62CV0FgpX6TgkLv Other than encouraging people to vote, I believe businesses should stay OUT of partisan politics. Regular voters should have the most influence in our capitals, not corporate interests. Credit unions are typically not involved in politics. CUs serve their members, not stockholders. PLEASE NOTE: Customer facing employees were *not* the problem here. My issues with this bank go way up the chain of command. Also, I am not now nor have I ever been a Fifth Third Bank employee. Nor has anyone in my immediate or extended family.

THEY WILL WIRE YOU THE MORTGAGE PAYMENT! I don't know what happened to them, it's sad

She…read morehad not even set up direct deposit yet and simply provided paycheck stubs generated through our payroll system. Instead of contacting the employer to verify (which would have resolved everything quickly), she was accused of submitting "fake" paycheck stubs, told she might need a lawyer, and the loan was denied. The situation escalated unnecessarily and caused her significant fear and stress. For context, she has been with us about a month at a $120,000 salary, and previously worked 18 years at her former employer, earning $195,000 on her most recent W-2, which she offered to provide. I emailed the CEO directly to ensure this didn't happen again to her or to other employees who bank there. There was no response. We are a small Kalamazoo-based company that employs caregivers serving veterans (through VA programs) and elderly clients so they can live safely at home. Because of how this was handled and the lack of follow-up, we have reviewed our payroll relationships and identified 31 of our 128 employees who currently have direct deposits going to this institution. To top it off, one of their branch offices came to one of our employee meetings about a year ago to offer their services, which is why we have a large number of employees banking there. Based on this experience, we are moving away from sending payroll direct deposits there and recommending our team consider other banking options. We expected due diligence, professionalism, and communication--none of which were provided.

I lost a debit card once and they were able to make me a new one right there at the branch in around ten minutes. I've also had an auto loan, and they were easy to work with.

A very special…read morebank Most of the time we use banks for perfunctory and mundane purposes and don't really require a whole lot of interaction with actual people. So much is automated now that we can do much of it online or with minimal human contact. But occasional something complicate, confusing and difficult pops up that requires a banking expert. We required such a banking expert recently and needed to resolve a rather convolved and old problem expediently and efficiently. We were in another state, in a bank we didn't know that didn't know us so we had reservations about the outcome. However we got in contact with the bank's president Matthew, and he was incredibly pleasant and personable and had amazing knowledge and flexibility. He, along with several other wonderful individuals in the bank, solved our problem and went out of their way to give us the information we needed to fix a complicated problem with smiles and humor. Yeah, banks are kind of boring and we expect them to do things without much effort on our part. But once in a while you really need a bank banking expert for something out of the ordinary and this is the real test of the institution and the folks working there. And this Comerica bank and more importantly Mathew and the people working there went far beyond what they had to do and made a difficult situation into one that was quickly and simply solved. Nice to have a site like Yelp to praise a business when they truly deserve special merit.

I've financed multiple cars, homes and properties throughout this relationship and maintained good standing and positive credit history over decades, and throughout this entire relationship. Recently I tried to refinance one of my properties and encountered a very negative experience that must be shared as a horrible example of effective customer care, service and retention. I believe it is driven by race and I feel this interaction is discriminatory in nature. I was denied a refinance despite my positive banking history and excellent credit rating. I was also spoken to in a condescending and disrespectful manner by the loan agent. As a Black man who has been a pillar of his community for decades, I am upset and disgusted by this situation/behavior. I wholeheartedly denounce how my business has been handled as a longtime, loyal and credit-worthy customer. Fifth Third Bank needs to reassess their approach to customer care and service in this community!
