Parking is almost $50/night, so keep that in mind when traveling. I have a list of people to shoutout because they all went above and beyond to show true hospitality. 1. Shelly at the front desk was incredible.!! She was super sweet and took the time to explain every part of the hotel. Shelly truly made us feel welcomed. Each time we walked by, there was always a wave and a smile. Thank you for that! 2. Wanda!! She is the "singing omelette lady" during the week. I got to catch her on a Monday and she was so pleasant so early in the morning. Yes, she sings little tunes and exchanges pleasantries. Surely it's a great way to start your day! 3. Ivan!!! The coolest dude at the Embassy! He was our bartender almost every night and he didn't disappoint. Even with the heavy crowds during the evening cocktail hour, Ivan always kept his composure and had a smile on his face. 4. Tracy-- an excellent saleswoman. She caught us on the last day of our trip, offering us deals we tried not to refuse. It seemed like she was genuinely interested in our travel interests, rather than just trying to close a deal. I appreciated her warmth and kindness and it seems like she really enjoys her job. She's absolutely perfect for her role.

I always love that that embassy suites offers happy hour and breakfast so that's mainly why I selected this location for my work trip. I mean he gunned the van and was driving like he was on a freeway. I then call back to advise what happened and the person at the front desk gets smart with me by saying, "Don't be mean to me I can send him back." Mind you I was just telling her what happened and that I was taking a taxi in which cost me $30. The taxi guy was like, "Don't venture outside." You don't have to tell me twice. When I get to the front desk, some guy named Brandon was deep in conversation on the phone using profanity. After he was done, he says, "Do you need to check in?" I thought to myself "I'm tired. Just get to your room", and that's exactly what I did. The place is old but the front desk said they were renovating from the top down. The room was clean and it was quiet. That's all I really want after traveling. The highlight came when I went down to the bar. The ladies (3 of them) were nice and friendly. I hope they see this. I was there on Sun Feb 1, 2026 around 9:30-10p. One disturbing thing is that there were people in the bar area that was either on meth or crack. Lastly, there were lots of tables that were unclean. Highlight: They do serve breakfast with an omelette station. I did not go down for anything. Would I come back? As a last option yes. I hear the Embassy Suites Uptown is nice and freshly renovated.

I was asked by Elon Law to teach a night class in Charlotte and they graciously got me a hotel at the Hilton in downtown Charlotte. Sounded great and I was excited... And then I arrived. Let's see.... There was a long line at the reception and it took quite a while till I got to the front of line to be helped. Then I was told that the rooms would not be available for 2 hours even though it was already 2 hours beyond the check-in time. No accommodation for that mishap other than the offer to leave my bags and wander around. This was awful because I had to teach in an hour! Thank God they did find a room that was ready and so I asked where I could park the car and I almost had a heart attack when she told me it was $35 to park my car. Are you freaking kidding me? The room itself was close to $200. Seriously? I don't know why I asked the next question, although I knew what the answer would be as I timidly asked, "Does this include breakfast?" Of course it doesn't. And if you want a piece of toast and a cup of coffee, that's going to cost you close to $20. This place is a freaking rip-off! I greed to pay the damn $35 and was told that if I park on the fourth floor there is a walkway right into the hotel with my room key. So I parked the car where she said and went to the door and kept swiping and swiping and swiping and could not get in. Finally, I called downstairs and they sent somebody up to let me in to only discover that they share the parking lot and access with the Hampton inn. Incredibly confusing. That's why my key did not work. So I had to take all of my stuff back down to the lobby again and find my way to the Hilton elevator. By the time that nightmare was solved, that was the end of my shower and resting and it was time to leave for teaching I came back after teaching quite hungry but I was not about to spend $150 for an M&M peanut that was for sale in the lobby. I went back to my room, had a bottle of water to only discover that they want $2. Do me a favor Hilton inn. Next time just charge us $1,000 for the night and let it include breakfast and parking. Again, I am very appreciative of Elon University putting me up for the night but next time I'm going to see if they can put me in another place. Maybe a place that charges a normal price, is not terribly confusing and actually includes breakfast and parking for the exorbitant fee. There's a second chapter to this review. and It truly proves that good customer service can mean everything! So as I was checking out the following morning, the woman at the registration named Ebony asked me the infamous, "How was your stay?" And my reply was, "Do you want the polite response or the real response?" with which she replied, "The real response, absolutely!" So I began to tell her how my room wasn't ready and I was going to have to wait 2 hours. I told her how the woman at the registration desk did not offer me anything for that delay other than I could leave my bags behind the counter. I told her how they finally found me a room but told me nothing about the Hilton gold honors I was entitled to. I told her how confusing it was in the garage to find the right way to the hotel. I told her how horrified I was about the $35 parking fee. Ebony was so sympathetic to my frustration and determined to give me top customer service, that she did not charge me for the parking and gave me a Hilton Gold perk I was entitled to and got a beautiful breakfast to go. Ebony turned everything around for me. I got a delicious omelet with wheat toast, made a hot cup of coffee, got into my car with a new attitude and traveled back to Greensboro. I still think the hotel charges too much, should not be charging for parking, should be offering a breakfast for that price and should explain how to navigate the parking lot since the dual hotels sharing the same garage. But, they also have Ebony who knows how to treat a customer! Thank you Ebony! And Hilton... Get your act together!!!

I appreciated the affordability, views and spacious room and shower amenities. However, I couldn't sleep well while here, as it was always warm even though I tried turning my thermostat as low as it would go in my room. The light bulb in my entry way near the closet kept blinking so I reported it the first day. Apparently it was looked at, but it still blinked on and off so I never used it, which was a little inconvenient when it was darker near the closet. I also felt the lobby lacked seating, amenities or places to just gather and chat like you see in many other hotels. The area coming out of the elevators on the 2nd floor was confusing at first because it ends up in the dining area that was sometimes roped off. Just an unusual set up. But truly the location is ideal if you are coming to and from the convention center or public transit. I did not use it, but people in my group were raving about the YMCA Fitness center on the 3rd floor. I also called, after returning home, because I thought I left my prescription glasses. It was well staffed and all were helpful. It was convenient how the hotel is connected to the mall area. I am still kind of figuring my way through Charlotte, but that seems to be pretty common and is actually kind of a neat element. The elevator cabs were extremely dated and really need to be cleaned up and freshened up. I think the condition of the common area is just overall left the experience to feel a little dreary. I'm not sure I'll stay here again.

A Luxury Price for a Motel Experience -- My Honest Review of Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel…read more Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel 303 South Church Street, Charlotte, NC 28202 If I could give this hotel zero stars, I gladly--and rightfully--would. This was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I have ever had during my domestic and international travels. Based on the hotel's branding, marketing, photographs, and premium pricing--nearly $400 per night--I expected a genuine luxury experience. Instead, what I encountered felt more comparable to a low-tier motel than a four- or five-star boutique hotel. The disparity between what is advertised and what is actually delivered is staggering. From the moment we arrived, the experience fell apart. The valet area was cramped, chaotic, and inefficient. Check-in took over 40 minutes despite having a reservation. For a hotel charging premium rates, this is unacceptable. The bellman was kind and courteous, and we tipped him because he genuinely tried. However, he appeared to struggle with the physical demands of handling luggage. My criticism is not directed at him but at management, who should ensure employees are placed in roles they can safely perform. The reception staff were pleasant but lacked the professionalism and attentiveness expected of a luxury hotel. The lobby was surprisingly small, overcrowded, and underwhelming. Aside from an attractive chandelier, there was nothing elegant or memorable about the space. Unfortunately, the disappointments only continued. Our key card failed immediately, requiring another trip downstairs. The room itself was untidy. The bed appeared carelessly made, while the towels and linens were rough, stiff, and uncomfortable. The minibar area looked cluttered and neglected. There was no microwave, and after requesting one, it did not arrive until the following morning. Even then, it was a tiny dorm-style microwave that felt completely inconsistent with an upscale hotel. The refrigerator emitted such a strong foul odour that it was unusable. Bottled water stored inside absorbed the smell and became unpleasant to drink. No guest paying luxury prices should ever encounter something so unhygienic. The room was also much smaller than expected and carried an unpleasant odour throughout our stay. The advertised city view was equally misleading. Rather than overlooking Charlotte's skyline, we looked primarily at rooftops and neighbouring buildings. One member of our party is disabled and specifically requested a room with a bathtub well before arrival because it was an important accessibility accommodation. Despite making that request in advance, we were told upon arrival that no such room was available. That was both frustrating and unacceptable. Housekeeping presented another challenge. During our stay, we were unable to communicate even basic requests because no staff member we encountered spoke enough English to understand us. Every employee deserves respect, but management has a responsibility to ensure guests can effectively communicate their needs through multilingual staff or translation resources. The restaurant was another major disappointment. The food lacked quality, presentation, and flavour, feeling more like inexpensive takeaway than fine dining. The bar was excessively overpriced while offering very little atmosphere or hospitality. Even as paying hotel guests, we never felt welcomed or valued. Valet became another frustration. When we needed our vehicle for an event, we were told the wait would exceed 40 minutes. Rather than risk arriving late, we paid for an Uber while our own vehicle remained inaccessible. Premium valet prices should come with premium service. Perhaps most shocking was the lack of amenities. For nearly $400 a night, there was no pool, no proper guest lounge, and no meaningful communal space to relax. The tiny lobby doubled as everything, creating a crowded atmosphere rather than a luxurious one. Luxury is not defined by expensive room rates or carefully edited online photographs. It is defined by cleanliness, comfort, attentive service, accessibility, thoughtful amenities, and an experience that justifies the price. In my opinion, Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel has invested far more in marketing than in the actual guest experience. Charlotte has numerous outstanding hotels that provide genuine luxury and far better value. I strongly encourage travellers to consider those instead. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone seeking the experience it promises. In my opinion, Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel is all hype and very little substance. Save yourself the disappointment, save yourself the frustration, and most importantly, save your money. This hotel simply does not deliver the luxury experience it advertises.
