Update: broken trust. I took my Viola to get a new bridge at a local luthier. They said I should…read morealso upgrade the strings, but I said they were very high quality strings purchased from Bella Musica for $150 including installation. The manager shook his head regretfully and told me I had been ripped off because they sell the same strings for $50.00. He also told me that the strings had not been installed correctly and he restrung them at no charge. Before: when Bella installed the strings, two of the strings were crossed in the pegbox and it prevented the pegs from being turned for tuning. After: Free of charge, the local luthier restrung the strings without crossing them and the tuning pegs can now be easily turned.

When I got my bass back I couldn't turn any of the knobs without the sound cutting out. But I guess it was my mistake to assume that you guys would to a proper job. Additionally, you guys told me that you guys would call before starting the repair to give me a quote but that never happened. I just received a call after the fact. The person who first helped me called and told me the repair would be 35$ but when I came in to the store the guy tried to charge me 45$ and when I told him about the price that I was given his response to me was "well she didn't fix the bass." STAY AWAY unless you want bad customer service, difficulty brought on by a huge language barrier…read moreand dealing with a guy who doesn't do much listening. If so, then this is your guy! Where do I start? To begin with, Paul's Violin is not located in a store. It's located in a back room of his house. That was the first red flag. The 2nd red flag is there is a huge language barrier. I mean HUGE. I'm not sure English is even his 2nd language. How none of the other posters mention this is odd. I took a couple violins in to have them restrung and get new bows. Simple enough. We only got as far as one violin. He proceeded to find an issue with that violin having been previously repaired, which we did not know. So he came up with what he felt as a solution to something that has never been a problem. The more I asked him about why he felt this was an issue now, after never having been one before, and then asked him specifics about what he wanted to do to "resolve" it, the more irritated he became. He does not like to be questioned. I've dealt with people like this in the past who "think" they are masters at their craft, and are beyond questioning. When he did try to communicate, we could not understand him at all. My wife included. To make it worse, he would talk directly to my wife, who knows nothing about violins. I asked him a few times to talk directly to me, which he wouldn't do, and then he would proceed to insult me to my wife. He would itemize a price on a post-it note, and when I asked him at least five times what was the current total price, he never answered me, often mumbling that he was too busy. Hey, if you run a business, be prepared to answer questions & be able to justify your work & prices to the customers. Through it all, I tried very hard to have patience with this gentleman because of the obvious language barrier. Finally, because I could legitimately not understand him, he looked at me and said do you not understand English? Seriously! I reminded him that there was only one person in the room where English was not their 1st language, and it wasn't either me or my wife! OK. To say this was a frustrating experience does not even do it justice. When he questioned me as to whether I knew the difference between a tuning peg and fine tuner, that was it. Seriously? I played violin in an adult symphony while still in HS. By then I was done. We never got to the 2nd violin. This gentleman repairs violins and apparently builds violins, but doesn't play violin. In all, this was about 30 minutes of my life I will never get back. Most of the reviews are from several years ago. If I could rate this ZERO STARS I would. The best thing about this experience was that it allowed us to go somewhere else locally where we had the violin strings replaced and got new bows as requested, and we were treated with professionalism, courtesy & respect, something this guy knows nothing about! Go somewhere else because there are better choices locally!
