As a Spectrum customer, I was delighted when Consolidated fiber came to my neighborhood. Finally a synchronous data transmission system that could handle today's household and work-from-home needs. Then it started going sour... First: Fiber cable installation. Nobody told me I'd have fiber cable strewn around my yard for two months before a third-party contractor showed up and started digging. Without contacting me. But it went okay, and I had few/no other issues with the fiber system for the low-cost first year. Then prices went to normal, and my billing got messed up. I started receiving threatening cut-off letters two days after the payment had been pulled from bank. Never did receive any reason for that other than I needed to set my auto-payments for at least 10 days before the due date. They don't mention that anywhere, and no other company who I allow to automatically get paid has ever had similar issues. That's a pretty basic thing to fix, Consolidated. Forward to a warm summer day, thunderstorms roll through and power is cut. Three hours later, power is returned, but the internet service doesn't come back on. Five days later a tech finally comes by and replaces the fiber modem. No word about why the device needed replacing after the power outage, but it did. Forward to vacation time. I decided I don't need my internet or wifi turned on while there's nobody home for ten days, so I turn all the equipment off (power buttons on the back to off, and then unplug them.) Return from vacation, start up the equipment one piece at a time with no success. It's a long wait on hold to be told it would be 3-5 days before I have the same fiber modem replaced again, this time by a third-party contractor. He mentioned that he spends most of his days replacing those fiber modems, because their firmware can't take a power cycling. You'd think that they would use equipment that can sustain being powered down. That's also a pretty basic thing to fix, Consolidated. Forward to recently, when I discover that Consolidated will happily over-charge you for their service, when their advertised regular rate (been a customer for over a year) is $10/month less than what I've been paying. Their rate may have dropped, but they damn sure didn't tell existing customers. If it were the other way, I guarantee they'd be making customers aware of a rate hike. So after waiting on hold for almost two hours (the first hour a guy from a call-center in India answered, said my phone number was incorrect, and hung up on me.) After another hour on hold, I finally got a person who was helpful, and even called back twice over the next couple days to ensure that my desire to change from Consolidated to their fiber subsidiary Fidium was on track. Very nice! Today, my Fidium install appointment was a window from 1pm-3pm. I gave up my entire Monday afternoon to be available. At about 3:45pm (45 minutes AFTER my window closed) I got a call from Consolidated Customer Service saying the tech was in town, and headed my way. At 5:15pm I still hadn't seen anyone, and called to re-schedule. Now I have to wait another week to give up another Monday afternoon for the HOPE that the Fidium tech will show up on time. Suddenly TMobile or Verizon home hot-spot solutions are looking pretty freaking good. Until Spectrum gets their service to be fully synchronous, I won't be using them. And with Consolidated/Fidium customer service continuing to be woefully inadequate, I can't say how long I'll stay with them. When the fiber works, it works great. But the mayhem dealing with CCI is seriously off-putting. read more

I have dealt with my share of ISPs in my days and these guys take the cake for worst reliability and worst customer service by far. I live in Mankato, MN, and I spoke to a man named "Stacey" for tech support. Not only did he not sound like he knew a single thing he was doing, but he also offered no help whatsoever. Normally that is to be expected when on the phone with an ISP, and I would have been okay with those things if it weren't for him being so impatient and condescending towards me on the phone. In one phone call, I was transferred 6 times, and spent a good 45 mins on hold. I pay for 30Mbps internet, my speed tests range anywhere from 0.5-8.1Mbps. Spend your money elsewhere if you can. These guys make me want to scream. read more

Switch over from Spectrum due to their unethical business practices, salesperson lied about saving me money on my monthly bill without lose of channels. Guess what I lost all my sports channel. Lied to keep my business. CCI setup on Monday. Monday night experience tv skipping and pixeling. Internet speed test shows less than 3 Mbps download and less than 5 Mbps upload, Spectrum at least had me in double digits each way. At the time of speed test I was sitting about 15 ft from modem Wrote Monday up to storms in the area Tuesday night same thing same speed test results. Filled out their online form for a call back on Wednesday By noon Wednesday no response from CCI My wife called and they walked her through some "stuff". She did not have time to really test it. Wednesday night I am trying to watch the Twins game and guess what...skipping and pixeling. Speed test gave similar results, nothing over 6 Mbps either way Called again at 9:30 pm.... Guess what? I got their offsight answering service, they only have techs available during business days. Bottom line, to get help you need to take time off work to talk to a tech. Tomorrow is a holiday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we are out of town. No help for us until Monday, 7 days after initial setup. Dealing with a unethical company such as Spectrum looks appealing right now. Let's hope CCI can get this straightened out quickly read more

I was forced to get one star however this was the worst experience as far as quality competency and deceit as far as billing goes I'm so glad I left them and went to spectrum. Stay away from this company, you are better off using your cell phone hotspot , that is how bad this company is. read more

Horrible customer service. After a billing mix up, I called and they assured me it would be working again within 24 hours After a week of no service, temporary outages are not uncommon. I finally called in again and waited on hold for almost an hour for technical assistance and all they could come up with was to unplug the router for 30 seconds and the plug it back in. Since that didn't solve the problem the problem had to be with my hardware or wiring. They were to schedule a service technician to call and come out to check. Service mysteriously started working again the next day without a visit from a technician. Fortunately I was able to find another provider now and I won't have to deal with Consolidated Communications again except to cancel my service. read more

Paying $45 for 3MBPS down and 912KBPS UP. And a phone line we barley use. THATS OUTRAGEOUS! THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS TOO. Once they put us on the same line as my neighbors. Who the heck messes that up? Then they proceeded to put us on a crappy line. The worst ISP ever. I'm stuck with it too since their is only sate lite and that's too much. read more

I had a man named Brian come over to my house. He offered to reinstall part of the wiring of my cable TV. Took an hour and a half. Now we experience no issues at all. Worst. If you have any issues, and it's likely, you'll wait for over a half out to talk to someone. This company just doesn't have it together--terrible customer service, sloppy in the field w hardware (internet lines etc) and bad policies. We have had our internet with this company for years. Every time something goes wrong it's almost impossible to get someone on the phone to help. Currently our WiFi hasn't been working for over a week. Every time we call customer service we get the runaround... can't find our account, called the wrong place, can't see anything wrong etc. Finally yesterday I got ahold of someone and they made an appointment to come out and fix it! But they never showed up! And now when I call I can't get ahold of a live person again! I'm so frustrated! We are paying for WIFI that isn't working at all and can't get anyone to help us!! read more

Some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Very difficult to get times scheduled for service when working full time. Had scheduled time in place and twice the technician did not show up and did not even receive a call as to an explanation, so I waited around for four hours each time and then I was the one who had to call in order to find out that they weren't coming. Then finally get another day scheduled and I missed the call from the technician because it was outside of the scheduled service time and now they aren't coming, yet again. We will see if the fourth time is the charm. Would NOT recommend their service to anyone. read more

We pay $50 for internet that barely functional most of the time. And Consolidated is the ONLY provider out here, so we have no choice in the matter, you're basically stuck paying for bad service. I paid half the price previously at Charter and never had ANY problems. Soon after switching over, now paying double and getting no where near the speed, customer service or reliability as they so proudly advertise. FALSE ADVERTISING! Not to mention the condescending customer service and lack of flexible appointment times. I shouldn't have to bend over backwards to accommodate their ridiculous appointment windows. They only offer 5 hour windows, and most of the time they don't even bother to show up. Not everyone has super flexible jobs where they can ask off an ENTIRE DAY of work, just so the technician can show up sometime between 12-5pm. Come on, that's asking an awful lot of the customer after you're already overcharging them for something worth half the price. Consolidated Communications doesn't care one bit about it's customers. In all the times I've called I can say I've only had 1 average customer service experience with them. I wouldn't even call it good. Just better than the usual snooty and rude customer service you get. UPDATE: Multiple tornado touchdowns in the area. Good to know Consolidated internet takes about a good 30 seconds to load any given web page. Don't even try to view the radar, because their internet can't even handle that. Pretty sad I can't rely on the service I PAY FOR to view the weather in the area. Especially when my family's safety is involved. UPDATE: Checked my speed yesterday. It's been at 2.38mbps for quite a while now (they advertise 40mbps). I've nearly given up trying to work from home, because it takes sometimes minutes for pages to load. Their internet can't even load their own website!! Charter charges half the price for double the speed?!?! Consolidated Communications is clearly one big scam. If your thinking of getting Consolidated, don't. This company will lie, cheat and steal from customers. They are perfectly okay with their customers having barely functional services, as long as you are getting service. I want this company to prove me wrong. I want to see that they care about their customers, but time and time again they show through their actions that they don't. read more

Recently I changed my telephone and internet to another provider due to the continued internet interruptions. I contacted Consolidated Communications and informed them that I was changing and they informed me that our contract was an "automatic renewal" and that I would have to pay $950 even though I no longer would be using their services. I asked the representative if after 32 years of being a good customer if this is how they treat their customers. Well I have a $950 bill to say that - yes this is how Consolidated Communications treat a 32 year customer. I would tell anybody that signs a business contract for services from Consolidated Communications to read the fine print about "auto renewal" or insists that they remove that from your contract. read more

I've called this place 4 times for tech support and ive never actually spoken to tech support. I gave up and my internet eventually started working again. If youre thinking about this service run away don't even conaider them. read more
