This is a great place to buy sustainable and true vintage clothing! As a consigner, I know that the clothing has to pass a thorough quality inspection before it is accepted for sale. No dirty junk. The clothes might be a bit more expensive than Goodwill or other thrift stores, but you don't have to waste your time searching through garbage to find the good stuff. It's all good stuff! And the vintage clothing section is great, well organized and reasonably priced for true vintage that you can actually try on before you buy (unlike online). After months trying i wish i had brought my stuff elsewhere. It was worth a lot more than the change they give. And they have so many rules as if they would pay more. Plus the OWNER closed the door on my face 14 minutes before they closed claiming there was too many people in the line. I real wise business owner would never do that. Unless they just like playing the boss. Another occasion she screamed to everyone at the store calling another man costumer entitled white man. After he suggested some changes at the store. Came here with my kids yesterday for the Charleston Pride event. The rain meant no carwash, but my kids and I had a good time looking around. Really good mix of furniture, home items, and clothing. This consignment shop has something for everyone; it's a big place but items are pretty much separated to shop for. I enjoy going in and browsing around and have found items for our home in perfect condition. Consign Charleston runs like a well-oiled machine! I am a long time consigner, and have always been impressed with how efficient and easy the process is! The owner is no nonsense - no drama - just a polite no thank you if your items are not something she will be accepting for consignment. She will let you know if you can bring your item back at the correct season or if it just needs some minor TLC. This is appreciated! Tip for consignors: ALWAYS check the website for the consignment calendar before packing your stuff up and heading over. There may be last minute changes to drop off times etc. ! I live in Myrtle Beach and when I discovered the missing dress, I called back and asked them if they could ship the dress to me. They refused and said they do not do things like that. When she went to move out there wasn't room for it and they had no problem taking them back and putting them right up for consignment. I advice you never take anything to this place. We took a hepple white antique table and 8 chairs there. The value was $6-10,000. The owner sold it for $450 and said we were scammed years ago as it was not an antique. She refused to speak to us and told us she new more than us as she had been in business 17 years. Even if it was not an antique, no one can justify selling a table, 8 chairs and leather cover and leaf for $450.00. She hung up on us. I absolutely cannot recommend Consign Charleston enough!! The best consignment shop I've ever had the pleasure of going to! It is a huge old building that has been spruced up to fit the rows and rows and rows of furniture, clothes, and knickknacks. Not the cleanest, but the clothes are always clean and the staff take great care of what they can with their small numbers. The pricing matrix is awesome for a deal, and the semiannual parking lot sale is one of the highlights of my fall and spring! I have been shopping & consigning with Consign Charleston for many years now. The staff is wonderful & I love how much Consign Charleston gives back to the community. They are always doing fun events, raising money/donations, & just getting the community involved. Consign Charleston sells super cute stuff, and I love shopping for gifts, home decor, or clothes here. They do a great job of taking items for consignment as well. I believe the fee is $5 a year, and it is so worth it. I take all sorts of stuff that I no longer wear/need. They only take what they know they can sell, and they give the rest back to you (of which I usually take to Goodwill or give to friends). Dodgy! And more DODGY! The store closed down without any warning to the people who had their goods there on consignment! Me included. Isn't that illegal! The website is still up and there is no notice about them closing down. Now the building is a Where YA Bin store. I called the stores number and no one picked up and no outgoing message. They are in hiding. Besides the dodgy business of closing down without telling anyone, I am GLAD to see the back of them. The owner was a total nightmare, rude to all of the customers. I witnessed her yelling and screaming at a sweet little old lady that had only asked what the price was on a pc of furniture, and I have felt her wrath personally, but we won't get into that right now. And to top it off, all of the employees were very rude and not helpful at all. It's almost like the owner trained them to be that way. I feel bad for anyone that was subjected to this store. And forget it if you wanted to collect YOUR money on a Saturday as they down right REFUSED to give it to me. Staff does not really help, however a "hello" is always there when you walk in, so? When I go into these places, I'm looking for the item that is unusual and rare. This is not the place for that. Terrible customer service. The owner is the most unprofessional piece of work I've experienced in the Charleston area. I have patronized this business for years, but never again. I overheard the owner asking a disabled elderly employee to cross the store to pick up a small piece of plastic on the floor that she herself walked over without stopping to pick up. I also witnessed the owner make a very derogatory remark about another customer's sexual orientation and then loudly proclaim that she was also a lesbian as if that made the comment somehow acceptable. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I was shocked and appalled at her behavior. When I confronted her about this, I was told to leave the store and to not ever return. Seems something is rotten in the state of Denmark. Where we shop matters. Where we choose to spend our money matters. I couldn't be more disappointed in a local business if I tried. Unfortunately, the people who suffer the most from all of this are the people who choose Consign Charleston for their consignments. I would implore them to chose businesses with better values, standards, and ethics. Not surprised to see the low rating for this store. I've been shopping here for years and giving them many of my consignment items but heard the reputation of the owner from other shoppers. It wasn't until today that I witnessed her condescending attitude and extremely unprofessional demeanor. I am fine with them requiring masks, that is their prerogative and I am happy to oblige but not when I'm reprimanded, spoken to like a child OR when the air conditioning is broken and makes you feel like you can't breathe even without the mask. When I waved goodbye and told her she just lost ANOTHER customer (I know of more), she lashed out with insults and clapping. She is her business' own worst enemy. read more

I would like to say to begin with that this review is not so much for the store or its employees but for the people who shop there. I've been an employee at Consign Charleston for more than four years now. It never bothers me to chat with the customers and help them where I can, despite the reviews that is the way the entire staff is. I personally take great joy in listening to their stories, mourn with them when they are going through tough times, and try to be helpful where I can. This is a policy I can with me through out my day to day life not just when at work....Keyword here being TRY. HOWEVER there are days when the public can be nasty, horrible place to be. This weekend for example I had more customers be ugly, rude, and nasty with me than I usually have to deal with in an entire month. Even had one guy attempt to walk out wearing a pair of shoes he had not paid for! Who does that kind of thing ? I mean seriously! I was so frazzled by the end of the day from all of the nastiness heaped upon me not by my co-workers but by the customers. I get it, the weather is nasty or maybe you've had a bad day but despite your personal belief life doesn't always go the way you want it to nor are you entitled to behave like you are owed everything you want when you want. Where I firmly believe no place is perfect and sometimes we all get pushed to the point of snapping I wish customers would remember the person they are screaming at is in fact still a person and maybe...Just maybe if you tried to be kinder to others they would return that kindness. It is easy to complain that you aren't getting your way or to be nasty with others but if you treat others better than you have been treated then there is a better likelihood they will do the same. In closing we all have bad days but we need to learn not to take that out on others. My Consign Charleston family has my back when the customers are acting like self entitled butt heads. read more

I am torn on Consign Charleston. When I go in, I feel overwhelmed a little bit. There's so much stuff! It is nicely organized, but there's just a lot. The racks of clothes are much taller than me, so I feel a bit weird when shopping through because I don't like that I can't see around me/what's on the other side. They do offer a large variety of things. From clothes, in ALL sizes (which doesn't happen a lot in Charleston, since everywhere only seems to have teeny bopper sizes) and in all brands. They even offer a "high end" section, with an alarm system and designated personnel to it (Kate Spade, Coach, etc). Their furniture section is all over the place. Not as in, all over the store, I mean all sorts of everything. Any kind of style could be found here. Their customer service is what is lacking. I feel like I'm bothering them when I ask for assistance or even when I'm checking out. They aren't very personable. read more

The store itself has a decent collection of clothes and home items. First price prior to an additional mark-down is over priced. The buildings itself has a musty moldy smell which is off putting. Here is where my 1 star review comes from. I have never before had such a rude, obnoxious encounter with a business owner as I did here. I decided to take several items in to sell (apx. 35 summer items) were approved (many new with tags). I made two drop offs in two days day 1 they took 26 items and day 2, 9 items. At the time I was told it could take 2/3 before priced and available for purchasing in the store. At apx. 4 weeks I followed up with a call to the store and my items had not yet been processed. After an additional 2 weeks same thing, I was told they were behind due to a personal issue that their one and only pricer (part owner) had to leave town. Then came the evacuation last year due to the hurricane, then came they lost 3/4 employees and were behind getting items on the floor. Thru all of that i had understanding and cordial conversations with the staff. But at the same time the summer items would soon be out of season! Finally 26 items were on the floor, when I inquired about the other items I was told all summer would be out within the week because now they are only taking fall items. A week later still not accounted for! Finally I ask to speak to the manager/owner. When I tried to explain that not all of what I brought was ever tagged for sale- she proceeded to tell me I didn't know what I was talking about and I was telling untruths and that she was making money for me and she has X amount of co-signors and was to busy to discuss any longer and if I needed to come up to the store. So I go to the store 2 days later and she says it's pricing day and she doesn't have time to discuss anything to come back again. When I go back again, she is out to lunch, I have a conversation with a woman that was there counting and marking down my items when I brought them in. She pulls my information see's the 9 items are not credited to my account and all she can think maybe happened is they decided not to put them on the floor , possible make up or torn or something. With that said at the time of intake they asked me if I wanted any items returned to me if they found something after the intake(which was quite thorough at the time) my reply was YES I would pick them up. The rude woman comes back from her lunch as I'm talking with the staff member, when the staff member tells her 9 items are unaccounted for she looks shocked, but proceeds to tell me she will no longer accept items for sale from me. What a joke!!! Her mistake and she blames me! I was never rude or out of line at all, I was shocked at the situation! Lost items I can understand, maybe they tagged them to someone else's account who knows. But to treat a co-signer with such disrespect is unbelievable. I told her to keep any monies from my account as a donation to her store, it was never about the money!!! Additionally I had the same experience as another reviewer posted, I had arrived at 10:15 on a Saturday store hours state opens at 10:00, 2 other shoppers are waiting one says she's been knocking on the door and is completely ignored not even acknowledged!! I knock and they turn around look at the customers waiting and just go back to there conversation a totally disregard for people's time, no appreciation for there customers!!! read more

The staff is absolutely amazing! They always greet me with a smile and available to answer my questions. I absolutely love their selection of high end clothing. I have also found several items and framed art for my home. Inventory is updated regularly so they must be easy to consign with. Can't wait to see what they have in store this week! read more

Run girl run- I could write an entire dissertation on how unjust the pricing system is at this store. As a sociologist, I always find it interesting when I find a thrift store that's clearly catering to the gentrification of the area it's in, and boy does this one fit the bill. I found countless Amazon items that were priced merely a few dollars below its original pricing for the convenience of it merely being right there in front of you in a pinch (which is hilarious because that's quite literally what Amazon is pushing from the start) The clothing section offers great pieces, however the prices seem to reflect the value of the idea of the item and not at all the current condition of the item. A blouse with a coffee stain on it and missing buttons literally priced at $60 just because it was made before the 2000s is just price gauging at its finest. I'm really disappointed in the business owners of this place, I'd love to know more about what thought and research actually goes into their pricing system. Was absolutely grossed out the more I was picking up items that you can get at a goodwill in the same condition and saw $50 price tags, $100 price tags, a stack of dishes in the hundreds (yes, plural hundreds). I can't wait for this next generation of young and informed consumers to take this place down a peg, and I encourage young folks to really give stores a run for their money in this economy. I came in today with my two little girls to purchase some items for our home. There was a rug I liked and I asked the sales associate if I could please purchase it. There was water leaking from their ceiling and the rug was started to get wet so the sales associate said she wanted to tell her manager whom is the owner. She came back and said that the owner of the rug is no longer selling the rug due to the water on it. I informed her I didn't mind the water because I would be having the rug cleaned anyways. She told me she didn't think the owner would sell it now but I'm able to speak with her. When I walked up to the owner to talk to her she didn't even let me speak before saying the "what do you not understand the rug isn't for sale." I tried to explain I didn't mind the water and she started yelling that she personally bought the rug 3 days ago and would not be selling it and I should have known by the "sold" sign on it. I then tried to explain there wasn't a sold sign on it and that the price tag was still on it which is why I thought it was for sale. The owner asked me if I knew where the door was and to leave because she wouldn't not have someone question her. She started yelling, "this is my store, I'm the owner, this is my house, and no one would question her." I was in shock by all of this I just stood there trying to figure out if she was serious or not because it was so intense over something so small. The owner then started to yell at the sales associate that I would not be allowed to purchase the items that were in my buggy and not to ring me up if I tried to buy anything because no one will question her." I replied, "mam I would not be purchasing anything from her store because this is not how people treat or speak to people especially someone who owns a store." She then told me she would call the cops on me and my kids if we don't walk out of her store right now." We were already leaving because my kids (who are 3 & 4 years old) were so scared. The center isle is mostly junk that they don't know where to place. Gee that makes sense.....lets put the complete garbage right where everyone can walk by it and put the good stuff in the corner or hidden on the side. It makes me sad to write this review because this place has potential to be great if it were owned and managed by someone who knew how to run a business. The owner has a bad attitude and seems to be ignorant when it comes to running a business as this one is poorly managed, under staffed, disorganized, etc. It seems like they spend all their time scrambling just to keep up when they should be continuously improving and getting better. I am trying to give a fair review of this business so I will give some background. I have consigned items here 3 or 4 times in the past. No one has ever been friendly but I am fine with a business attitude because it is a business. However, the main problem is a lack of clear communication. I always bring pictures in nice frames, small furniture items and glassware. Many of these I have had for years and the quality is good and none have ever been rejected. Some of the items are heavy or cumbersome and I am in my late 60s. No one has ever helped or offered to help. Again I knew that so this time I called the day before and asked about current times and I had read the website in order to be clear about rules because I knew the owner would say something if rules weren't followed. When I arranged I saw carts outside but no flat bed carts and I went inside and saw only buggies. I was leas to believe the flatbeds and buggies would be together.There were 3 women at the main counter and I said that I was told there would be flatbeds and buggies the owner pointed and said" they are over there." I looked over there and couldn't see exactly where she was pointing and said to her "You will need to show me exactly. " She said "who told you that "and I said I "did not know the persons name." I said "are you saying that no one told me that "and she said she didn't and I said I did not say I talked to you. She was hostile the minute I asked about the carrier. I had decided to just leave but she said "I don't think this is going to work today" and I said " that is totally fine and I left. I was polite with my answer although I was annoyed with the total lack of assistance whether it be saying let us bring you one or let us help you. She would say that someone was going to bring it to me which indeed was happening as we were talking. I maintain that it was only because I said what I said and was annoyed although I simply stated facts with no name calling etc I blame myself for several reasons which are 1. I have never been treated in a friendly manner there 2. I should have left upon seeing that what I needed was not readily available Let me say that I won't ever do business here again. I can't speak to the quality of the merchandise because I have only consigned. I was a teacher for many years and know that different personalities are a good thing but basic civility and a welcoming attitude are something that most people can give. As an aside I did not talk to her the day before but I was not interested in throwing anyone under the bus because of what should have been a small issue. I bought a pendant that was labeled 14k gold. The pendant was tapped to the tag, so I could not look for markings myself but was told that if the pendant was gold filled it would be described as so on the tag. When I got home I opened the pendant to see that the markings clearly say 14k gold FILLED. I called and was told that they do not accept returns. Like some others who have left reviews, I hate to give this business even one star. I'm from the Nashville, Tn. area, but occasionally visit a dear friend in the Charleston area. My opinion is, this business is no more than a blemish on the city of Charleston. If it had been the only business I visited there, I would NEVER come back. The woman who professed to own this store was absolutely the rudest person I have dealt with in a long, long time. Because I personally have a resale business myself, I have visited multitudes of second hand stores in Nashville, Charleston, and literally dozens in between. I purchased an old stereo cabinet that was solid wood, and quite heavy. It was being purchased for my personal use, and I had been searching for some time for one like it. If this were not the case, I would have walked away when she first opened her rude mouth. I was told she had no one there to help load the cabinet. At my business, I would NEVER have told a 67 year old woman that she would have to load a piece of furniture by herself. Because this was a used piece, and there was no protective box, and I didn't want it scratched, I chose to load it on a flat bed dolly instead of a traditional 2 wheel dolly. She very sarcastically said, "Suit yourself". I stopped and asked her if she owned this store. Her response was, "Yes, and I'm just about to ask you to leave". With much effort, I managed to load my cabinet and rolled it to the side door. I went back to the front of the store and asked for the side door to be opened so that it could be loaded into my SUV. Again, very rudely she told me to pull my car around to the side. While my friend and I patiently waited outside, we could hear quite a bit of activity on the other side of the unopened door. When the door opened, she and an employee had taken my cabinet off of the flatbed dolly, and put it on a 2 wheel dolly. This could have been done for no other reason than spite. At this point, she took over the job of loading it into my vehicle. In the process of loading she and her employee allowed the louvered doors to flop back twice. Makes you wonder why she suddenly had 2 people to switch dollies, but had no one to help me load it to begin with. Now, I'm not accusing, (draw your own conclusions) but when I left, my little cabinet had several scratches, and the doors would not close properly. This could have all been avoided if she had just made a small effort, and asked one of her employees to help me load the piece to begin with. Later, I was telling my friend's son-in-law about my awful experience at this store. His response was, "I could have told you not to go there. They are known for being that ugly". Sorry to say, I didn't read the reviews on Yelp before I went. I can only hope that other folks do. This store really makes Charleston look bad. read more

I give no stars. Went in and got a clock for a present. And yes I was insured it was in working condition. And I was told to come back for a refund. If not. And I got home to find out the clock was in bad condition and was not working. At all. And my mother in law.
