The Glyde Inn - Sherry tart dessert

Stellar view overlooking the ocean with beautiful waves crashing towards you as you dine. Tonight…read morewe even had great live entertainment by an Irish Band, one playing the tin whistle, one playing the banjo, one playing the guitar, and lastly one member of the band playing the Bodhran ( Irish drum). Now onto the food, we had a set menu as we were part of a group of 41 dining here from a bus tour of Ireland. I had the Hake which was lightly fried and came with a creamy sauce. It was decent. My girlfriend has the Irish beef stew and we had many beef stews on our 8 day tour of Ireland and this was not one of the better ones. My girlfriend and I agreed it tasted like it came out of a Campbell soup can. The mussel appetizer was in a creamy sauce, the mussels were rather tiny and it's my preference not to have them in a buttery, creamy sauce. I would always prefer a garlicky sauce but I believe these were served mostly in a white wine and butter sauce. To each their own If that's the flavor profile you prefer. Now the desserts were interesting. It sounded like the sherry fruit dessert pictured was a mix of gelatin and fruit and some small bits of cake mixed in. It honestly wasn't my fav but it sounded like it was an old recipe that ran in the family of one of the owners. I like that they are daring and put unique items on the dessert menu, again just wasn't my flavor profile. Lastly, my girlfriend got the pavlova, which is a meringue and whipped cream concoction with fruit and I really loved this unique dessert. I wouldn't come back personally but I read somewhere it was voted pub of year in 2018. I will be unloading a plethora of reviews from Ireland in the coming days so please follow me if you would like to read more. As always people SYOY!!!!

Love love love this place. Yelp is a little sporadic in Ireland so I cross referenced with Trip…read moreAdvisor. So glad we came here. It was a Sunday night and we didn't know what to expect. Was kinda empty when we arrived, but both guys working were super friendly and, after learning we were from the US, were quick to adapt the conversation. One has a good friend that moved to Indiana, the other was a huge fan of Andrew Luck (Our quarterback for the Colts). We talked beer, American sports, and they could not have been friendlier. After I finished my Guinness I was hankering for some whisky. One of the guys showed me the local stuff and I, being intrigued, ordered a shot. He came back and warned me it was 11 euros. Omg how nice was that? So I ordered another Guinness. My wife doesn't drink beer, so they made her a Sex on the Beach cocktail that she loved. Around 10 a two man band started playing music. They were great. One of them seemed to be playing percussion on a wood box. We had never seen anything like it. I had two other bars on the list to visit tonight so we left prematurely. The second stop absolutely sucked. The bartender had no personality and wouldn't even consider mixing a drink for my wife. I wish we had stayed at McPhails all night.

Very, very cozy pub in front and a larger bar area in back where live music is frequent. They have a good-sized beer garden with heater lamps as well. For the ladies, there is a hair straightener in the women's toilets that you can use for €2. I did not use it, but I have to say I haven't seen such amenities in a pub before. Definitely a place worth checking out.

I cannot believe how large this pub is inside! We stopped by after seeing it on a "Traditional Pubs…read moreof Ireland" poster, and because my grandfather's name was James Griffin. The atmosphere was perfect! It was early Sunday morning, and there were already a few locals inside having their morning beer and reading the newspaper. I did some exploring because it looks so small on the outside, but you get in, and it just keeps going and going. Looks like they get large crowds during the evenings, and even offer lots of live music and DJs. The bartender was friendly.

So when you pass thru Trim to see the Castle, call in to this gorgeous pub. When you walk in, it is old school classic pub with beautiful woodwork and bar. From there, you can go in the cozy fireplace room that feels and looks great and leads to another cozy area to meet and be with friends. If you like patios, you're at the right place! Step out back and find a covered & climate controlled patio that is huge! They have a large smoking patio area (you can't smoke inside in Ireland either). Thru the patio, you can see a big events room that you can host a reception, party, meeting, whatever. It's been a few months since my last visit, but I've heard they have a new beer garden too! Oh yes, the drinks...the Guinness is perfect. You can get almost any tasty beverage here from a nice bartender. The owner is hands-on and always working to keep this place top notch.
