Connexions is an information service for teenagers from 13-19 operating down Charles Street in Leicester. The centre sometimes have advisers stationed in the individual schools around the city though the main base is probably the best place to go if you're looking for advice.
I personally find Connexions brilliant and used it regulary until of course I passed over the cut off age. There is so much on offer from just standard advice to workshops and all sorts of activities to take part in but basically the main role of Connexions is to provide help for young people leaving school and what to do with their lives after GCSEs. There is a lot of advice about applying to college and university as well as looking into work in which Connexions has their own directory of jobs specifically targeted at school leavers. There is of course also help available for any kind of problem such as financial worries, family problems general health and sexual issues and much more.
You enter Connexions and are instantly greeted by the friendly and enthusiastic staff who work there. You are able to use computers to type up CVs and such or to speak to an advisor who will go out of their way to help you as much as possible. If you're looking for work and not old enough to sign on at the job centre then this should definately be your next port of call as they run workshops on creating a good CV and also have extensive activities throughout the summer.
You'll also find that they check up on your regularyu as well whether its a routine phone call or a letter just to make sure that everything is OK.
Overall considering all the choices and dilemmas facing young people today Connexions is a great place to have. read more
