Our story with Herman Motors in Luverne, MN…read more.. Kelsey found a car she was interested in and she and Gene took it for a test drive. * The Service Engine light came on during that test drive...hmm, said the salesman...we'll take care of that. *We'd like to have the car checked out by our auto service company. Is that going to be a problem...driving it in to SF to have it checked out? No...of course thats fine. You know, we're kind of slow during February...I could drive it into SF for you, no problem. Great...we think. They drive it into SF to be checked out and a Miracle happens between Luverne and Sioux Falls...when our tech checks out the car...no service engine light. Another problem shows up, and will cost her about 1500 to fix in the near future, but she decides the price of the car, plus the fix is still worth it, and she decides to buy the car. *She's so excited to go sign the paper work and pick up her car! She and Gene are driving the car home...and The Miracle un-happens ... about 30 miles down the road, the Sevice Engine light comes on...and flashes. Right then, Gene called the dealership because Kelsey was driving. Gene was instructed to take the car to a certain auto repair shop once they got into Sioux Falls. That auto repair store said, it was fine, its just an old code, its fine to drive, no problem. Great! (we thought) *That night we happened to be at an event with our own auto service friend and when Kelsey was asked how she liked her car, she told him the story of bringing it home, the light coming on, the light flashing, and that she was told it was an old code and all was good. *Sinking heart. It was not an old code...that wouldn't show up like that. She shouldn't drive it, ESPECIALLY since the sevice light was flashing. We need to take it back in to see whats going on. *Cylinder problem in the engine...$2500+ to fix. When they get in there, could double if the other cylinder is also bad. *Kelsey called the salesman...sorry, can't help you. *Gene calls and speaks to salesman, and then finance guy. The car is yours, there's nothing we're going to do. Gene says, he has no choice but to consult an attorney, to which he is told...good luck. *We start investigating and find out Minnesota does not have lemon laws on used cars. The dealer has no legal obligation to help us...we're pretty stuck. *Gene decides to make one final call, and calls the owner, to see if he can make this right and save his reputation. "The law says..." is how the owner responds . I know what the law says, said Gene, I just thought I'd give you one last chance to make this right. No go. The law is on his side. Morally...doesn't matter to them. We're telling the story now, so that we can stop talking about it, stop the anxiety and move on. We do want to let our SF friends know what an awful experience we had with this dealership and warn you to beware.

I purchased a used 2016 Ford Escape from Herman Motor Company July 15, 2019 (currently September of…read more2017). When I picked up the vehicle after purchasing it the low tire light was on. I advised them of the issue, they took it in and advised they had fixed it. The tire light has continued to come on and the check engine light came on shortly thereafter. I took my vehicle in to Ford Motors in Sioux Falls to have a diagnostic test completed and they advised me the purge valve needed to be replaced. The back-seat passenger side seatbelt I have found out since, is inoperable and needs to be replaced. The brakes are grinding as well. Due to some family tragedies since purchasing the vehicle, it was only recently that I called Herman Motors and spoke to them regarding the issues of this vehicle since purchase. I was advised to bring it in, and they would look at it and figure something out for me. I brought my vehicle in to Herman Motors where I purchased it in Luverne, MN as scheduled; 45 minutes from my home and work. I was given a loaner vehicle and was advised after looking at it and figuring out what was wrong, they would call me and discuss further. I received a call that afternoon and was advised the purge valve needed to be replaced, which I advised them earlier, had already had a diagnostic test ran on it. The left rear tire had a leak and that they had repaired it. All four brakes and rotors were bad and needed replaced and the seat belt in the back would also need to be replaced as it was jammed. I was then advised the fee for what they had done on this day was $236.00. When asked why they would tell me with no cost and because I had recently purchased it there, they would look at it, there was now a cost and why wouldn't they advise of the cost before doing anything. I was told, in a rude manner, that anywhere I would go I would have to pay for that service regardless if you were told up front or not and "you wouldn't go to work for two hours and not get paid, right?" When I advised this was not what was discussed, I was handed off to the man I originally spoke to. I inquired about the fee and again advised him I had recently purchased it there. He stated "oh, I was unaware you purchased it here, yes, let me meet with the sales guy and I will call you back." I did receive a call back 15 minutes later from the lady (Kelly) I originally had spoken to. She advised "he" was going to cover the cost of the diagnostic testing, but I was still responsible for fixing the tire ($56.00). I asked why someone wouldn't call before fixing something and telling them of the charges up front. Kelly advised that was my responsibility regardless and that I would be charged no matter what, wherever I went. She also advised me I would be responsible for everything else wrong with the vehicle, they would not be fixing anything. When I advised Kelly, I did not feel this was right she stated, she would have the guys "unrepair" my tire and would have the keys held for me in the office to come and get my vehicle. Kelly further advised "I am half owner of this company and that is the way it works." I completely understand charges; however, I have never been treated by anyone in this manner by any service place or company of any kind. As a professional working in customer service and as a "part owner" of a company I would expect the professionalism, curtesy, respect, tactfulness and the understanding of what true customer service is. Word of mouth is a powerful thing and I think people need to be aware of this kind of treatment towards others. I and now many others will never again do any form of business with Herman Motors of Luverne, MN. It is truly unfortunate one would be treated so poorly and unprofessional.

Took it back and after it being in shop over 2 months got it back in March was going off the dealership lot check engine light came on. Told the dealer he said oh it will be fine bring it back tomorrow. Took it back the tested everything and said oh its ok. I then took it off lot drove home and noticed a bad knock in engine. Called them the mechanic said oh it is just a flapper valve no big deal it wont hurt nothing. Went to go someplace on a that weekend got 3 miles out of town the damn thing lost all oil pressure and died. After several weeks of arguing with the dealer I finally signed truck back over to him, In doing so he should of refunded my money or got me another truck. I told him I would wait he can find me another truck. So Another month goes by he gets me another truck .. I did not sign papers this time. Drove it home damn thing died in my driveway could not get it started. So he came and got that truck. I am so mad and aggrevated by this time as been over 3 months. So I told him found a truck we liked at another dealership and in price range want that one. He agreed went and test drove it. Said ok I will get it for you and that has been 3 weeks now. He keeps telling me he has to come up with money to buy it. And he needs time. What the hell??? My patience are wore out. I have now contacted a lawyer. Called my bank and nothing they can do as have 2 payments for car and truck lumped together and even though I signed truck over to Ken I am still making payments on the damn thing because I cant stop making payments or my car will get repoed. NEVER EVER EVER WILL I DEAL WITH HIM AGAIN. AND NO ONE SHOULD EVEN CONSIDER EVER DEALING WITH HIM. PLUS HIS MECHANICS ARE HORRIBLE THEY DO NOT KNOW THEIR HEADS FROM THEIR REARS. HORRIBLE SERVICE HORRIBLE PERSON!!!!
