***DO NOT GIVE THIS GUY BUSINESS***…read more TERRIBLE RENTER! We found CHABAD LOFT online and we fell in love with the pictures. The price was do-able. We were looking at $1500 for a Saturday night (8pm-1am), then we were comfortable with the contracted $350 security deposit which was to be refunded and $200 cleaning fee, non-refundable. The owner had extremely terrible communication, especially after deposits were taken. During the set-up, he had people (perspective clients) checking out the venue. My partner & I didn't quite mind, but thought it to be unprofessional. The stereo system didn't work. The wall were dirty. (I can't believe we had to clean them) The refrigerator was FILTHY. (We couldn't use it) There were signs and debris from past parties/event stashed everywhere. He was somewhat attentive about the stereo and had someone try to fix it. We were pretty understanding, as we didn't have much time to fret and panic. Guest are starting to arrive and the stereo goes out. ARE YOU SERIOUS? We get it half way back on. Our party is successful, and by successful I mean the man of the hour enjoyed himself. After the crowd of 75 leave the venue, my partner and I clean up all the debris, sweep, etc. We left it better than we found it. Now we depart. After about a dozen calls to this guy, I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED MY $350 deposit back. He's dodged all of my calls and has yet to return my calls. My CC company couldn't complete the dispute as they couldn't get in touch with him. HE IS A THIEF. HE IS A CROOK. HIS PRODUCT IS BUSTED. I will do everything in my power to ruin this business.

It is great for a intimate wedding or for any small to medium size occasion. Very beautiful setting in the inside but I would say keep your jacket or coat on during the winter time. It was pretty chilly but watching the bride come down the aisle in this beautiful church warmed everyones heart. At one moment when the pastor started saying a prayer for the couple to be the sun shined through the window on to a mural of Jesus... Now if that wasn't a blessing then it was a set up either way it was absolutely beautiful.. The reception is also a medium size and intimate. Wasn't much decoration but the Bride and groom had a photo booth which was absolute smart and instead of waters running around with finger food they a had a table place setting that had all the fingers. The only down fall is there women's restroom was very two bathrooms booths but plenty of space to fix yourself and makeup. The cater and church did and amazing job on the bride and grooms wedding if I ever get propose to again I might come want my wedding here also, but maybe in the spring or fall just to be safe.

Afterwards, some of the guests walked over to chelsea piers, for more fun & games. Thank you for the wonderful memory!

Like the other reviewers have noted, $400 for a wedding site in midtown Manhattan is not too shabby...! They throw in a rehearsal hour as well. The space is very cool - marble alter, beautiful stained glass in the back, ample seating for about 100 people. There is also a beautiful curving staircase that leads to a park a block down from the site. It's easy to get to, easy to find, and relatively easy to book. We booked less than a year in advance. Some things that one should know about the place though... It's not your typical church. There is a center pew flanked by two aisles so there will be no "bride side" and "grooms side." You won't be walking down the middle of the aisle... more like choosing the left or right aisle. Also, the church empties right out onto First Avenue so there is not much of a grand entrance or exit out of the church. One thing that peeved me is that two weeks before the wedding, we were informed that on Saturdays, air conditioning for the building gets turned off at 1pm. Therefore, in order to have a/c for our 4pm wedding, we would have to pay for the air conditioning fee from 1pm until 5pm... at a rate of $300/hr! We just decided to risk it and not pony up the money... and luckily, it was 70 degrees that day (in August!) The coordinator is not the easiest to get in contact with, but she will get everything done.

Since i wrote about my experiences at St. Augustine, i have been reading other reviews, and realize…read morei was unfair. I was there in 2007 and years before. At first I was enthralled with it all, just like the recent reviewers were. But my reviews are about the St. Augustine church that stood by itself, not joined with another. The St. Augustine's that - to me - was a vibrant, active church on its own. I left and did not keep up with the changes i guess it went through in joining (?) with St. Francis. I TRIED to be an ACTIVE, REGULAR member of ST. AUGUSTINE. First as a choir member, and often sang as soloist for weddings and funerals. I was trained for this since high school at the Brooklyn Conservatory School of Music (3yrs.), and have a degree in music from one of the major music conservatories in Manhattan. Well, so maybe i was too trained. I truly felt i had something i could contribute. That's ok. I understood. So i tried attending the senior group, (maybe 8 members?), and seeing a need, i cooked for them for a while. Full trays of dinners for their lunches (egg plant parm.and the like.). That went well until the Business Manager started sending down family members, and staff to partake. (I am not stingy, ...but ???? how much can one give. ??) My trying to give to the senior group ended when they asked me to lead a Christmas sing-a-long. I supplied the printed words to the songs, but found this wonderfully diverse group unhappy. (too much classical, not enough Spanish, etc) The ONLY group that did not complain were the few from Haiti. I truly loved the people crom Haiti...- these wonderfully SOPHISTICATED, and CULTURED members, who loved the water colors i brought for all, and were delighted i brought copies of standard opera arias at various times. They seemed to be familiar with them, they sang along, wanted to learn and participate. Never, ever complained. I found them gracious, loving, and Christian. I had to leave the senior group, though. Too much dissatisfaction from the other two groups. Over a number of years, i kept wondering if they realized i was just a volunteer? my final and most strenuous effort to give back to the church/religion/institution i was born into was work in the library gift shop upstairs.it had been disorganized, with half opened boxes of shipments of items strewn around. Three lay women would give an hour or two every Sunday to be there. They seemed to want to be there to give "spiritual guidance", or something.. The church said it needed money, i tried to give of myself and gave at least 6 hours a day, 6 days a week to make it a practical, working library and place where people could get rosaries, statues, holy cards every day i would bring the Business Manager an envelope with a little money . often bought things with my own money giving it to the church. After well over a year, of what i felt was a success, the criticism came.Older church goers demanded i buy more expensive items. But these same people never bought anything to contribute. They said they wanted a more high class place. The original three wanted to meet there for tea, and socialize. Befoore they pushed me out, there were people up and down those stairs all the time, buying little things, - candles of their choice of color, and saint, to place before the crucifix downstairs. St augustine picture postcards were actually being sold. Where js all this now. Empty. A museum. !ovely, beautiful church that should have continued to thrive with life. I saw the council, the Business Manager, the comminity look for what they could take. Not what they could give. I LOVE st. Augustune. But i had to walk away. Not only from the parish, but from it all.
