A previous reviewer complained that we do not have the Yizkor service at Congregation Ohr Torah…read more Yes we do!!! The reviewer perhaps went to our Sephardic minyan, and in that custom, they do not have Yizkor. Our Ashkenazic minyan, the original Shul minyan, always has Yizkor when appropriate. Also, the Ashkenazic minyan does not charge for aliyahs (being called to read the torah); the Sephardic minyan raffles off this honor. As for his statement about "Clergy from Israel," please be assured that our Rabbi, Rabbi Dovid M. Cohen, is a graduate of Yeshiva University, has a law degree from Columbia University, and also holds a Masters Degree in Family Therapy. He is a native of Long Island.

Now few years ago they charged more money to read the torah every high holidays, I wanted to read the torah but we have to wait and see if it's gonna get changed in the near future when they will be cutting the costs of reading the torah. If they don't cut the costs, then there will be budget cuts instead to read the torah. Last year and this year, they didi not do Yizkor service for people who lost their love ones. When I go to another synagogue for the Yom Kippur service, we will get better services especially praying, reading the torah and Yizkor service for people who lost their love ones. In the future there will be changed for low costs for reading the torah every Yom Kippur for 17 other men in the big shul where it used to be the Social Hole that used to be parties. We've have to wait and see when they will change the newer Clergy from Israel including new Rabbis and new Cantors after the whole community fired them for reasons why they did NOT do Yizkor service last year and this year and cutting the costs to read the torahs.
