PA Stephanie Tran is my go-to provider at the practice since Dr. Kamell retired. She is a ray of sunshine as far as her friendly personality, but she also knows her stuff on the professional side. She strikes a great balance of providing information and insight on skin conditions and possible treatments, with a positive manner of sharing that info. I'm not a huge fan of medical visits (who is?!), but Stephanie and her assistants keep it timely and as comfortable as possible. I usually go once a year to have my skin reviewed for changes in moles and other skin features. Recently, several areas were bothering me and they got me in to see Stephanie within a few days' time. On the appointment day I was in and out of there in about 20 minutes and still got my questions answered and minor treatment handled. Stephanie also made sure that a refill prescription was ordered, and I was ready to go back to my afternoon. read more

Came in to get treatment for my back, the front staff especially the woman with the blonde hair (elderly) called me the day before the appointment and gave me the a different time slot to come in, when I came in they said I missed my appointment! The front desk staff also charged me the wrong billing amount to my insurance. I am just in shock they would do this to me after years of coming here and having my cousin and uncle as a patient here for years. They could care less, they would rather you have issues instead of listening to the patient. read more

Resistant bacterial infection. I'm so disgusted with this dermatology office, I went here to find a solution to this rash on my face and instead they did absolutely nothing but make it worse. Marina forte is the one who saw me, this chick didn't even swab my face the first time I saw her and told me I had perioral dermatitis...gives me doxy and metronidazole cream. My skin became infected, I had to go in again and she FINALLY swabbed my face because it was INFECTED and goes yeah I'm not sure what's going on, it might be HSV1?? Girl what? How about instead of guessing you do your job? You're an idiot and I'm scared that you even have your license. This is my face not my fricking foot. Now I'm dealing with a bacterial infection and I'm being referred to an infectious disease doctor. Oh and I had to pay over 300 to see her!!! Love that I paid 300 to get an infection lol! read more

Dr Rietkert almost killed me. His 3 minute visit for the rash and leisons on my body resulted in a bogus cream that did nothing. He was so rude and dismissive with no follow up. His incompetence resulted in the spread of this horrendous rash that caused dangerous high blood pressure and extreme shortness of breath. This resulted in a medical emergency where I was forced to call an ambulance and go to the hospital. I was given numerous transfusions and medications. I could not sleep or function. I am still bedridden. He should loose his medical license as he is a danger to the community. I will be taking legal action. read more

Unfortunately, I can't leave a proper review of Dr. Mitchell's care because I've been unable to even reach the office. Over the past two weeks, I've left three voicemails (on the correct line, confirmed by the voicemail greeting), but have not received a single call back. When you Google the number, it turns out to be a fax line, so it took additional effort just to find the correct contact number. At this point, I'm unsure if the office is even still in business. The lack of communication is incredibly frustrating, and recent reviews seem to reflect a similar decline in responsiveness. If they care about their practice and patients, someone should reach out to resolve this -- and if that happens, I'd be happy to update this review with a more favorable experience. read more

Her team is just as warm and thoughtful - you can feel that they truly enjoy what they do. Dr. Rietkerk was terrible. My wife took my teenage son for a dermatology appointment where the doctor ridiculed my son, even down to criticizing what he was wearing. Not only that, but he had no solutions for clearing up his skin. This was the worst experience we've ever had with any kind of doctor and I would never go here again. read more

Very disappointed with this practice. I was calling to schedule an appointment as an existing patient. First off, it took quite awhile for someone to pick up the phone. I explained that I was having pain and discomfort from a Hidradenitis Suppurativa flare up on my thigh. I was given three option to come in a month out or a week and a half out with the nurse practitioner. This is the first practice I have come across that doesn't accommodate patients that mentioned pain/ discomfort. I called elsewhere and they put me into their schedule first thing tomorrow morning. It just felt like this practice has a lack of remorse. I won't be returning here. read more

Always have a fantastic experience with Dr. Rietkerk and the Conejo Dermatology staff. Years ago he prescribed me treatment for facial acne which has completely cleared it up. More recently, I called and left a voicemail for a separate skin issue and got a call back that same day to schedule an appointment. My appointment was for 11:05am, and I actually got taken back at 11:02am and didn't wait longer than a minute for Dr. Rietkerk to come into the room. I was pleasantly shocked at how on-time/early they were, which is so rare for doctors offices. My insurance changed since my last visit and I was able to do all pre-appointment updates through an incredibly easy to navigate online portal rather than having to arrive early to fill out on-site. There is always another female employee in the room with the doctor - both are always professional, knowledgeable, while also being personable. Office itself is clean with a self-serving water station and parking is ample in a large, free lot. read more

Super impressed with the office: efficiency, cleanliness, and quality of practitioners. I had a skin check and hubby had a mohs surgery on his nose. They took great pains to get it all and not have to do a skin graft. Dr Reitkirk discovered the and biopsied the bump and Dr Mitchell did the surgery. Highly recommend. read more

Have been coming here for several years....spend more time in the lobby waiting than I do with the actual Dr. Have had (on multiple occasions) the appointment be 30-45 minutes behind. Would be nice if they told you this when you checked in instead of you waiting on the lobby watching it fill up and empty multiple times. I was thrilled to find this practice after being disappointed in other dermatologists who pushed cosmetic treatments. I loved seeing Dr. Mitchell and trusted her professional opinion. She's a gem. But she's limited her time to surgeries and other serious procedures. Sadly, this practice has declined so much, it's now an appointment I dread. I no longer get to see Dr. Mitchell, and was referred to a NP. She did a good job on the screening and used liquid nitrogen on a tiny spot that's been annoyingly persistent. Dr. M used to freeze this same spot each time I saw her. I was never charged, and why would I be? The NP freezes the same spot and it's suddenly considered optional so they bill me $225. I call and speak with a couple of billing people (who were great). In the end I was told that the practice merged with bigger dermatology group and that I stand zero chance of having the charge removed. I appreciated the honesty. I paid it with gritted teeth. The merger explains a lot about why this practice went from shining star to corporate dud. And the other reviews about the front desk staff ring true. They are unhappy campers. Anyway, I'm now looking for a new dermatologist in the UCLA system. Proceed with caution. read more

I have had nothing but great experiences with this office. Another mom recommended Dr. Reitkerk to us and we couldn't be happier. My 7 mo has a few hemangiomas we wanted looked at sooner than later so I called over and whoever answered when we first called told us their new patient wait was a bit long to get in but she put me on hold briefly and was able to come back and get us booked a week later since a patient had cancelled. I really appreciated that since she knew we had a baby we were concerned about. Our first visit was so easy and we basically had no wait at all. Dr. Reitkerk was fantastic. So pleasant, nice and knowledgeable. He explained everything clearly and didn't rush any questions I had. I liked him enough to schedule my own annual mole checks with him as well. Lots of people in the waiting room, but things move quickly once you are in. Saw Ms. Forte, a nurse practitioner for a minor derm issue, mostly to validate what the GP had suggested. She was very knowledgeable and added another prescription to what I already got. I would definitely go there again! read more

Been using them for more than 20 years and have no complaints with the doctors but the office staff and the organization have become poor recently that you might as well not bother. They create appointments and have no record of creating them, then tell you to reschedule for two or more months later. Until they replace the people who do the scheduling, our family won't be back. We just don't have the time in our schedule to accommodate their incompetence. read more

Friendly staff, and never have to wait long once I've checked-in. For quicker check in the day of your appointment always fill out the pre check-in email that arrives to your inbox before your visit. It's a long list of questions so you don't want to be stuck outside filling it out before being let in. Dr. William Rietkerk has been treating me for over a year and has gone above and beyond in terms of providing me with excellent care and solutions to a complex skin condition. Dr. Reitkirk biopsied a growth on my nose near one of my nostrils. I was told that the pathologist's report would be available in 2-10 days. Since I had not heard anything after 2 weeks, I called his office. I was told that the results had not come in yet. When I suggested that the receptionist follow up with the pathologist, she told me that "they get results every day and they get them when they get them." A week later, I sent Dr. Reitkirk a letter expressing my concern about not getting the results. It ended up that the growth was cancerous and that they had gotten the report a week before my phone call. It was distressing that a dermatology group did not have a failsafe system for promptly informing patients of their pathology results. Mohs surgery and radiation were presented as my treatment options. Radiation would be twice a week for 8 weeks. Given the small size of my growth, I decided to go with the Mohs surgery. I was told that some patients need reconstructive surgery following a Mohs procedure. I was not told was that there is a ring of cartilage around each nostril. The cancer ended being widespread underneath the skin. A section of nostril cartilage was also removed during the Mohs procedure. A plastic surgeon had to do reconstructive surgery the next day. I was told that a skin/cartilage graft was much more likely to fail than just a skin graft. To be safe, I went with just a skin graft. The recovery period for the plastic surgery was 6 weeks. I could only shower from the neck down and there could be no physical activity whatsoever during that time. My wife had to wash my hair. It was a nightmare. The end result was that a section of my nostril is now missing which is horrifying. Patients should always be given the worst case scenarios so they can make an informed decision regarding the best treatment option. I had no idea what I was facing. Knowing what I know now, I would have never gone with the Mohs surgery. Radiation would have been a much better choice especially since part of my cartilage was cancerous. read more

My wife came home this morning from the Dermatology office completely disgusted with their run-around and lack of interest in their patients. She has been going to them for the last four months to address cysts that are under her skin on her face. Originally the office NP prescribed an ointment, two weeks later after no results with that ointment she was prescribed a different prescription ointment, still no positive results. Then on her next visit she requested that they be tested fos can back that they were not concerous and another prescription was prescribed. Then she was reccommned to use a new product on the market, after waiting another 3 weeks her issurance denied it. Her next option was to use a different injection type prescription. She went to the office this morning expecting to finally receive a treatment. After waiting 45 minutes the Nurse Practitioner came in to stay that what they had in stock yesterday is gone so they do not have it to give her. To say her frustration is at her limit is an understatement. This has been gong on since early June. Now she was told that if it prescription comes in they will call but otherwise it won't be until next Tuesday. The NP did say they "had one more dose on hand but that was being held for a patient coming in later this afternoon"!!!!!! My wife has been anxious about this for 4 months but this office seems tjo do little for the patient except to have her keep going in for appointment to receive little to no treatment. I have friends that recommened this office and they have already been called to say to please stop receommending them to others. There must be a better office in Thousand Oaks/Westlake. read more

My PCP recommended doctors Mitchell and Bodner but after trying for several days to make an appointment, I give up. Every time I call I get sent straight to voicemail. Too bad since they just lost out on a new PPO patient. If you want to be dismissed and not listened to then this is the dermatologist for you. Without going into too much detail, I was told by a rheumatologist to have a rash on my arm biopsied due to an unknown autoimmune condition. I explained this to the dermatologist who took one look at me and said "I don't think you have lupus, it's contact dermatitis" and proceeded to prescribe a stronger steroid cream even after I told her past prescriptions don't work. When I refused the prescription she offered allergy testing even though I stated I've already done that as well. Don't waste your time, find someone who will listen and wants to find the cause of the issue, not just stick a bandaid on it and send you on your way. read more

The doctors we've used (Bodnar, Reitkerk, Forte) all seem competent, the last the least rushed and expansive with explanations. The nurses too, though turnover feels it's gotten to the point I'm surprised when I recognise one from last visit. But behind the scenes things began going downhill with Phreesia and then the corporate acquisition (West Dermatology group?)--useless phone menu trees, billing months behind, scheduling difficulties (and being called for appointment reminders not for us or our afflictions), automated or AI-generated texts that lead nowhere, and a "contact" link at the bottom of their website that goes to a Platinum group in Texas. I get the impression the front desk staff are doing their best given what they have to work with, but every five minutes with a doctor costs me 30-60 mins of my time (getting there not included) and it's hardly worth the effort. read more

The medical staff was good but the billing is horrendous. They lack transparency and are near impossible to contact. I was quoted a price to remove a skin tag and a couple moles. We did the work and I paid the amount quoted. They never said there would be additional charges. A few weeks late I received a $233 bill for lab work by a separate pathologist. I think this is dishonest. I will not be going back to them. read more

I love this office. My husband and my dad go there as well. Dr Rietkerk and all the staff are very kind and efficient. I have been going here for many years and always got the correct treatment and had great results. I have never had a hard time with making an appointment quickly with a fast response to check in on my phone to save time. Also, fast contact when biopsy results are in. Dr. Rietkerk has a great attitude as always and listens to my concerns. I have a habit of making a list of areas of concern just to make myself feel better. Although Dr. Rietkerk is very thorough, I just tend to do it with every doctor. Then there is Dr. Jeanette Mitchell is another excellent doctor who has preforms the Mohs Surgeries on me and does it with confidence and no pain. She is patient and understanding and tries to use the smallest margins, but making sure that there are no signs of cancer left. Critical when it is on your face. I highly recommend this practice as there are other doctors out there, but I trust this facility because I have never had a negative issue. Always smiling faces and warm welcomes. Staff really is a huge benefit to all who enter in. read more

I made an appointment online through the website. My appointment was confirmed via text message then I never heard from them again. On the day of my appointment I called to confirm and I was told I wasn't on the schedule. Then I was told I needed to hold because the desk was busy. So that's how new patients are treated. I was referred to California Derm Inst. a few miles away from this Derm office but when I walked in a lot of my experience reads like the reviews here and I left. The emails I've receive all state that I receive them because I was Conejo Derms patient or had registered as a patient--nope, didn't. I suggest others protect their personal contact information. Nothing irritates me more than someone who tries to for advertising onto me and is dishonest in the process. read more

Dr Mitchell is in such a hurray. I went for her to check for skin cancer and pre cancer . Saw her in Feb 2021. April 2021 found out she missed 3 spots. Talked to office manager and front office staff. Ten days she never called to address I wouldn't feel comfortable continuing to see her. It's like Russian roulette. read more

I have been trying to make an appointment for weeks. No one ever answers the phone. I will be finding a new doctor.

As a medical professional I know the importance of: 1) Being on top of your game as far as assessment & treatment skills, and 2) Having a caring, compassionate, & respectful manner with your patients. I can see glossing over poor communication skills and flippant manner if a doctor provides excellent technical care, but Dr Rietkerk possesses neither of these necessary attributes. After my last interaction with him I wanted to leave this office all together, but since I have received wonderful & skilled care from Dr Jeanette Mitchell, I have decided to stick with the practice- but I won't be sticking with Dr. Rietkerk. For many years I saw Dr Kamell who was very skilled and kind. He saw a small spot on my arm (that, to me, looked like all the other pre-cancerous lesions I had had "frozen" off). He said "I'm biopsying this. I'm pretty sure it's a basal cell cancer". It was, and he performed surgery to remove it from my arm. Flash forward to last April, when I showed Dr Rietkerk a small pink spot on my upper forehead. I told him the spot had been there over a year. Instead of doing a biopsy, he decided to freeze it off. When I returned in early January it was still there & I pointed it out to him. He said he wanted to biopsy it. He started leaving the room & I asked him if I needed to make a return appointment for that. He said "Oh no. I'll have my assistant set that up. But I'm going to another room now. Otherwise I'll just have to stay here and make small talk". Nice. After he returned & the biopsy was done I asked if the tissues got sent to a lab & how long could I expect to get the results. He informed me that he was the pathologist - he looks at tissues under the microscope to determine whether cancer is present. After 2 1/2 weeks I had received no results, so I had to call the office. After being placed on hold, someone came on the line and informed me the sample tissue was positive for basal cell carcinoma. I scheduled Mohs surgery with Dr. Mitchell. It is very unprofessional that NO ONE from the office called to tell me my positive results, and since Dr Rietkerk is his own "pathologist" that means he knew about the cancer. He never called nor did he direct anyone else to call me. The Mohs surgery was successful & Dr Mitchell got clean margins, but despite being visibly small on the surface, she had to go deep & wide to get all the cancer out. After 3 weeks I'm still left with an open oozing area on my upper forehead that is slow to heal & shall we say: not pretty. I cannot prove that if a biopsy had been done in April '23 it would have shown cancer, but I keep thinking back to Dr Kamell & the fact that he knew right away I had a small basal cell cancer on my arm. If this new cancer had been diagnosed earlier, it would not have been such an extensive surgery to remove it. One more thing: during that last visit I had with Dr Rietkerk I informed him of a change in my medical status since our last visit (most of my doctors want to be updated on any new diagnoses or surgeries). I had breast cancer diagnosed in September 2023. He jumped to a conclusion & made a comment about what type of surgery I must have undergone (not really his place or concern). When I corrected him and told him the surgical procedure I did have done, he turned to face me and said incredulously, "What? Do you have some sort of genetic issue?" I was flabbergasted at that response so I started explaining why my surgical oncologist & I had come to that decision for my treatment. I was taken aback and wondered inside why I was even having to explain this to him... then I realized that he wasn't even listening - busy with something else. For these reasons I have stated above, I will no longer be keeping him as my dermatologist. I have told my family, friends, colleagues (also medical professionals), and even many of my patients about my experiences with his rude dismissive attitude and his (what I believe was a) "miss" on my diagnosis. A few of them reported that they also received poor care from Dr Rietkerk in the past and they also no longer go to him. read more

I just can't say enough about how amazing of doctors Dr. Rietkerk and Dr Jeanette Kamell Mitchell are at Conejo Dermatology. My little guy has been battling with a good size rash all week and Dr. Reitkerk has made himself so available and patient with me. He has checked in over the weekend and walked me off the ledge.
