The bottom floor features the fiction and nonfiction stacks, plenty of computers for public use and tables for board games, puzzles and Scrabble night. Just beside the theater entrance is the children's area for books and things. Both upstairs and downstairs you can find staff at the ready to help you find what you need. It's amazing to me that more people don't take full advantage of the service and resources libraries provide entirely for free in our communities. Though I think that's changing, as this location seems to prove.

Used to a large selection of books, UNC-Charlotte specializes in helping their students as there are hundreds of computers, printers, scanners, rooms, study capsules, meeting rooms, and even electronic draw boards on tables. This is what I'd expect and worth a visit before deciding where you take your studies as the high tuition prices drive most away. A beautiful campus of luxury that is well-kept up I can confirm the location, accessibility, resources, and service given is at par of not more than what you pay yearly.

Yes, the coffee is very affordable BECAUSE all the staff are volunteers. No one is getting paid and they LOVE what they do. All smiles and great service. The proceeds go to local and global missions of the church. Win, win all the way around. The place itself is very spacious. Two levels. The seating areas are comfortable and far enough apart you can have some semiprivacy if you need it. My friend who brought me says she comes here all the time to study (she's in college). All of the staff knew her by name. (love places like that) I'm not a coffee drinker so I can't really speak to the coffee (although my friend says it's pretty good). I am a tea drinker though and they have a variety of flavors, some refresher juice drinks, a few pastries. Please support. Every now and again if you're thinking of getting coffee or a pastry, choose them. Why not? Do some good for the community through others who are committed to giving back.

I thought I could scan at home but couldn't, and the Huntersville library is closed for renovations. On my first day here (yesterday), I watched a man on a computer sneeze directly into his hands and continue typing, I walked by a little girl who coughed twice loudly without covering her mouth, and I accidentally dropped my change so all the coins went rolling under the bookshelves. I literally got on my hands and knees to search and collect the change--they were quarters! Today I went back and let the librarian know that I hadn't scanned anything in years. I pretended I was dumb so she would walk me through it. It worked. Very seamless experience. Prior to finishing this review, I just received an email reply from the person I'm sending this info to. That email reads: "Thanks, Tyler (my pen name). All that's missing now is a copy of a voided check." Back to the library!

We decided to go inside and check out the public library. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is a library that looks and feels a lot like the ones I grew up with. When you enter the checkout desk/librarian area is right in front of you. On your left is the adult area of the library. On the right is the children's section. We hung a right and went to explore the kids stuff. There were shelves and shelves of books and magazines for kids to check out. There were a few on display around the area as well. One corner contained some toys and comfy chairs. My daughter, and some other child that she met while there, grabbed the toys and arranged them for a little story time. She then brought me a dozen or so books to read to her, her "friend" and the toys. We read through each one of them. The two of us then took a walk around the rest of the kid's area. Another corner contained more comfortable seating that were portable so kids could move them to a spot of their liking. There were three or four computers lining the far wall that kids could use for various things. Stretching across the front of the kids area were tables and chairs that were occupied by tutors and students. Overall I felt that the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library was an a-ok place to spend a rainy afternoon. Why not more? Well, like I said, it reminded me a lot of the libraries of yesteryear. In our hometown, Tampa, we have some absolutely gorgeous libraries which not only house books and magazines and DVDs and CDs but also house tons of technology and legos and hands-on learning opportunities and museums and local art. They also put on performances and offer educational classes and spearhead recycling initiatives and basically make the library a vibrant part of the local learning community. These are gold standard libraries. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library isn't bad, it just stands a couple notches below what I've seen a library can be at its absolute best.

The library itself was newish, clean and easy to get to, with available free parking ... although it is oftentimes full. Unlike some other libraries in the district, this one had more library things for kids to play with, but fewer library materials (books and puzzles). Still and all, nice library and recommended.

There are tons of children's books, toys, activities, and interactive areas for kids, which is wonderful. The rest of the library also looked very nice, organized, and well maintained. Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the children's area was extremely disappointing. The carpets were visibly dirty and stained in multiple places, and the entire children's section felt like it was overdue for a serious deep cleaning. I completely understand that an area used by young children gets a lot of traffic and will naturally have more wear and tear, but this seemed well beyond what I would consider normal. What made it even more surprising is that I've been to other Charlotte Mecklenburg Library locations, and I have not seen their children's areas looking like this. The difference in cleanliness was very noticeable. For a space specifically designed for babies and young children who are sitting, crawling, touching toys, and playing directly on the floor I really feel like cleanliness should be one of the highest priorities. It's especially unfortunate because the rest of this library looked very nice and well cared for. Since the children's area makes up such a large portion of the downstairs, I really hope more attention is given to routinely deep cleaning the carpets, floors, toys, and play areas. This could easily be an amazing library for families, but the condition and lack of cleanliness in the children's section made me uncomfortable letting a child play freely there.
