Call me a softie, a sell-out, a traitor to my roots, but I'm saying it loud and proud: I kind of really like Antoine et Lili. What did me in? The middle shop devoted to kids stuff. Right before my little tot was born I found an adorable patchwork stuffed elephant there that looks like a grandma sewed it together used retro pieces of fabric. I was bummed to find out that it wasn't one of a kind, however, but for 20E, I couldn't turn it down. I've since gone back on multiple occasions for other goodies, like a fabulous hand-crocheted rattle from Peru that is safe for babies to suck on, and these amazing unisex leather booties with Freddy Mercury pizazz. Each time I've gone in the staff has been super sweet and helpful and genuinely baby-friendly. So if you're looking for cute, affordable baby stuff, Antoine and Lili has got your candy-colored number..

Conversely, the actual number of clothing designs is actually rather finite - variety consists of producing each tried-and-true pattern in a multitude of the aforementioned prints. The sales assistant states that clothes from this basket cannot be tried on first. Pourqoi?? There was no sign in the shop stating that this is the case. I believe the sales assistant just made up the rule on the spot because she took a disliking to us, for whatever twisted reason she had. How on earth can you buy clothes without seeing if they fit first? Had they fitted, my daughter would have bought these items plus a scarf. This is bad customer service, poor sales technique and no way to run a business. Very very poor and I wouldn't recommend this shop to anyone BTW This shop is not vintage, it sells new clothes

This store in particular has multiple colorways of several pieces. I tried on a pair of cords in grey and the very sweet shopgirl brought them to me in, count 'em - EIGHT, other colors. Had to tempt myself away from buying multiple pairs and then also splurging on a pair of sneakers...of course they've got all the colors and styles of shoes you don't see in NYC. Heaven!
