My daughter has been doing Kumon with Debbie since the summer after second grade. She started with…read morethe math program and, as a seventh grader, is currently working more than three years above grade level. A couple years ago, she begged to do the reading program too and worked hard to complete it within a year. Doing Kumon has given her confidence in her math skills, accuracy and speed. She isn't a huge fan of the extra homework that she does daily as she works to complete the math program, but she loves being the kid in her school math class that all the other kids turn to when they need help. She loves easily earning top scores at school. While the Kumon program is the same no matter which center you choose, the centers are not all the same. Debbie brings a warmth and encouragement (for both student and parent!) that we didn't see when we visited other Kumon centers. All her assistants go the extra mile for the kids. I don't think my child would have succeeded the way she has without Debbie's personal attention and encouragement. Debbie always knows whether my child needs to be pushed harder or given additional support, when E is slacking off or overwhelmed. I highly recommend Kumon in general and Kumon of Lake Grove specifically.

I went here as a former student and have a lot of stuff to say about this place. If you want…read moresomeplace where your kid won't learn anything and the guy doesn't give a shit about anything then go here if you actually want your child to learn something please go to another location. It used to be very good but ever since the old owner left and the new owner came and took over shit has hit the fan. The thing that she mainly does is trying to get you to read his emails what you should but that's not really stupid she also wants sent out an email about how this isn't a place to do homework in that it's a classroom but he still first day doesn't give a shit if your child learns anything and only cares if he makes a profit. He has made it so that there are the maximum amount of seats in there because he cares about profit and sets kids back randomly. When I went there he wants decided that enough is enough and the molded meal level also if you don't like it establishment and tell him you're going to move he will try to bribe you there's been multiple times when he's gone outside and offered an adult 100 bucks if they stay now that is downright dirty you ever go here again then go far far away go to a better one who won is good but when it's handled by the wrong person it becomes a cluster fuck. Last but not least the dude has made it so that there are very little rewards and incentives in fact if you wear a shirt with it in you'll get an extra prize because he needs the free marketing in order to stay in business if he didn't have it then he would surely be lost down the toilet do not go here at all he is a narcissistic piece of shit.

During the main school day, there are 2 teachers and 16 children, fantastic ratio for children of this age. She has established process and discipline with the children, but does so in such a loving and consistent way. For instance, children are expected to clean up (and once properly instructed) held to a high standard to complete the task. When my children put their minds to something, there is very little they can't do. I've had to learn this just as much as my children. I love the songs my children come home singing. The map of Europe my daughter punched out from construction paper and assembled correctly blew me away. When you visit, notice how calm and focused 16 3 to 5 year olds can be when given this consistent direction, proper instruction and calm, effective redirection. When staying for the full day, older children who have aged out of nap time get additional instruction in "challenging work", which includes language, math and social studies. Sleeping arrangement for younger children is in a separated room on sleeping mats and is kept quiet. Wow, check out the outdoor space! It's an unexpected oasis, and lots of time is spent out there in the nice weather. Doris keeps in touch with a blog and emails after hours when there is something I need to know about my children, either good or bad. It's kinda nice to hear the good parts. The facility is a single family home near Lake Grove used exclusively for the school. It's clean and well maintained and set up for kids to thrive. The school is off for the month of August and all Lake Oswego SD holidays. As both parents in our family work full time, we had to scramble, but for the 2 Augusts for which we have participated, the change in schedule has ended up being a welcome change of pace. Price per quality is wonderful when compared to other Montessori options in the Lake Oswego area. Strong Recommend.
