Disgusting customer service!!!!
C'était Une Catastrophe (le service)!!!
We have been coming to this small bar / resto for the last 6 years. Not great food. No happy hours specials. But the street, rue Bonaparte, is vibey and fun.
We had a lovely drink and wanted to have a light supper. The place straddles both sides of the street now, so the waiter (a blue eyed one, not the rude dark haired one) told us to sit across the street.
When we got there, the rude waiter told us to sit at the back next to the wall. Since we were having dinner and there were plenty of empty tables, I asked to sit closer to the street. He came back to take our order very quickly (unusual for France, non?) but I told him we wanted to study the dinner menu but we would have drinks as well.
Then he realised we wanted dinner and told us to sit at the back. I said no and asked to sit across the street, back to where we were, next to the actual restaurant.
This is where the s-it hit the fan!
Excuse my French.
This rude waiter told us to sit next to the wall, even though 2 tables next to that were empty and there was no sign of a reservation. In fact the restaurant was about 40% full at that time (6:45).
I asked in French 'pourquoi' and he said in English 'because I tell you to sit there! You sit there!'
Il m'a dit forcément et impoliment ´you sit there because I tell you!' Malgré ma question 'mais les tables ici (2) sont libre?'
I said to him the Restaurant told us to move 3 times! Why did he insist on sitting us next to the wall, but he shouted to say because he said so.
I sat there demanding for the manager.
By this time thé street was curious and one table of about 8 men who sat next to the table we had vacated (or rather MOVED BY THE WAITER!) nodded in sympathy.
Oh, I also told the crowd that the waiter was mad - 'il est fou'.
The manager came out after 30 seconds and we thought he came to apologise.
Non! He said if we didn't sit next to the wall we must go!!! He said so loudly the whole street could hear him.
I said, we have been coming to your restaurant for 6 years and you don't even recognise me? I said the waiter was rude and this is how you treat your loyal customers?
We will not go back but I will not keep quiet either. We really thought the manager came to apologise to us but he took the side of one rude waiter and kicked us out! He humiliated us without giving us a chance to explain!
Please, if you are reading this, understand I have been a regular customer with regular requirements without being over the top. We tolerate the typical French service because we know there is a system. We have been living in Nice since 2011. We visit a lot of bars and restaurants and we like most of them. We don't criticise them for their food or service because most of the time they are OK.
But being rude to customers who have been moved 3 times despite them spending money on dinner? What is the purpose of seating customers at the worst table when there are plenty of empty ones? The waiter and the manager have no business sense, nor customer service training.
En faite, je reconnais le patron qui viens de nous exiler, mais il ne me reconnaît pas!
Never mind. read more
