Dr Vanna Sutherland provided me with psychiatric care for depression more than two years. I feel…read morevery fortunate to have connected with her when my previous doctor contracted with another practice and I had to find a new doctor. I felt extremely supported by Dr. Sutherland. I found her methods to be very comprehensive and her clinical knowledge both deep and up to date. The combination of medication management and therapy was consistently delivered with professionalism and clear concern for my overall well being. The care I received gave me a greater sense of security and confidence in managing my depression. When I moved to another state earlier this year during the pandemic, she took measures to bridge my care and eliminate the urgency and stress of finding a provider in my new location. I have all confidence in Dr. Sutherland.

I saw Dr. Sutherland for a short period of time. I found her on a list of providers from my…read moreinsurance and decided to go with her (and was so glad that I did!). This can be weird to say, but in my experience with psychiatrists, I find that interactions can be dry and almost robotic on their part. Since my first contact, she was friendly and personable. I found that she was timely in responding to my voicemail and spent the appropriate amount of time to answer any questions I had in session. She wasn't pushy about medication or anything, which I appreciated. Lastly, I trusted her clinical judgment. Not only did she give helpful advice and information, she was able to coordinate with other health care providers as a care team. The only reason why I rated her a 4 was because she has fairly limited flexibility in scheduling.

Dr Levinson was my inpatient psychiatrist (well, one of them) at Mills. Unlike most other…read moreinvoluntary patients, I very much wanted to be in a hospital because I desperately needed the help - help that I unfortunately didn't get until another hospitalization elsewhere. Dr Levinson made such reckless decisions in my care that he almost got me killed. Dr Levinson had decided on a diagnosis for me before he ever met me. Our first conversation was brief and just him collecting information on my treatment history. He insisted I that I *needed* specific meds that I had tried and done poorly on in the past. Then he didn't see me for a week, came back and told me I'd be discharged the next day - a decision he had reached, again, without speaking to me. Me as well as three consecutive shifts of nurses voiced concerns over the discharge order. (While I was packing to leave, my nurse was literally pleading with his supervisor to not let me walk out the door.) I was sent home without a discharge plan. Right before a long holiday weekend. While acutely suicidal. I credit interventions by my nurses and two other patients on my last night there with keeping me alive that day. I eventually got the help I needed at another hospital, where the treatment team arrived at a different diagnosis and spent a month helping me stabilize before discharging me to a lower level of care.

'different situation, ' and did the best they could) I trust Dr verby with my 9 yr old twins who have adhd/add/ptsd, and myself, with my own disorders, because as a single mother of twins (both With AD HD, and, everything that comes along with it- i.e. allergies, educational barricades, anxiety, immune compromising problems, etc... ) Dr. Verby has been there for us. He is keenly insightful with children, especially. Dr Verby is awfully patient, to the point you know he cares and knows ones' individual situation. Without him, my kids wouldn't be as great as they are. (I had begun treatment with him after moving back to SF from NY, @ Columbia University , and back to UCLA Dr's... and..back to him) .... then was lucky enough to have him be there for my kiddos for the last 7 years. They both have adhd. Office experience note: I suggest you don't try to play his piano unless you actually know how to play [in the waiting room].

And made an appointment. Only to quickly discover I wouldn't be able to afford to continue. He doesn't take insurance. I talked to a staff member explaining my situation and was told to come in anyway. Dr. Verby didn't want to lose me as a patient and would see me practically pro-bono. He's always believed in me and has seen me through some difficult and trying times. I was hoping his health issues might spare him a few more years. Elia explained on the phone simply "it's time". Alas, the end of an era. So many pleasant memories of all those supportive and uplifting visits with him over the years. I told him the Rx I really needed was for him to bottle that "Verby XR" thing for me. He came to be such a good and loyal friend. And I dare say my best friend. Happy trails compadre, you will be dearly missed by all of your grateful patients.
