The ABSOLUTE WORST healthcare experience I have ever had. Took months to schedule an appointment, was told there needed to be two in-person appointments and since his office was almost a 3 hour drive one way, I pleaded to ask if both appointments could be made on the same day. Front office said it was impossible, Dr. Hazel and Dr. Bokarius do not work the same days. Fine, I'll make the 6 hour drive two separate days. At the first appointment, Dr. Hazel is 2.5 hours late seeing me from the scheduled appointment time. I understand that things can run behind but no acknowledgement, no apology. Front staff was super rude. I needed a document to excuse my jury duty but required me to ask the front desk over 3 times in-person, and call twice after to finally get the document. To my surprise, during my appointment with Dr. Hazel, guess who else is in the office but Dr. Bokarius. After I was told unequivocally that Dr. Hazel and Dr. Bokarius do not work the same days and the two in-person appointments could not be scheduled on the same day, that was a bold face lie. They do not care about their patients at all, do not respect their time, front desk/receptionists are either incompetent or evil, probably both. I know he's the only doctor to take worker's compensation but there is a good reason why you can see from the other reviews why people avoid his office. To be honest, I think the entire experience was so mentally taxing and draining at a point in my life where I already was struggling with so much, I would avoid at all costs. Save your sanity and preserve your peace and find any other provider or be prepared to deal with the hell storm of weaponized incompetence and indifference from this health care provider. read more

Doctor Vladimir Bokarius is one amazingly honest practitioner. Rare quality in the for-profit driven industry of modern Medicine. I only wish all the doctors were like him in this regard! I came in with a non-English speaking friend's Mom to interpret. Doctor speaks fluently both Russian and English. Some good friend of her's was successfully treated by Dr. Bokarius and recommended her to this doctor. We drove from San Francisco to his San Mateo Office on the Saturday morning (11:45am), filled out paper work (5-10 minutes) and were ready to see the Doc. After his Assistant presented the case to Dr. Bokarius we were invited into his office for a consultation. After a thorough review and a few questions Dr.Bokarius honestly stated he can't help her, since she has an issue with her veins. Even-though she tried to convince him to treat her, he made it clear he is not the doctor to treat that condition and referred her to another specialist who has the expertise and knowledge in treating patients with these conditions. We've apologized and thanked Doctor for his time. After seeing this much honesty I decided to come back to see this doctor for the consultation of my own. I'll post another review to rate him on his professional skills. So far... Pros: +Professional and yet friendly doctor's approach +Honest +10+ years of practicing in the US (per his Assistant) +Attentive to the patients requests (my observation) +Attentive, Analytical +Offers an alternative to pills treatments (leeches) +Doctor's Board Certification is displayed in the visible location at the front desk +Clean, fresh office, shared with 2 other Medical professionals +Helpful office assistant +Dalai Lama Quotes poster at the Entry ;-) Hopefully brings good karma +Has a website with some helpful information relevant to his practice +Flexible appointment time. Reasons for taking a star away: -No clear information on types of the Insurance they work with, or payment structure -Would be nice to have his diploma(s) framed and visible -Website is full of vague information, needs a bit more structure. -Office assistant is helpful but could be a bit friendlier. Remember: smiles heal! -Initial appointment prices are pretty steep. How did we found him? Through my friend-of-the-friend recommendation. After I spent weeks trying to find a geriatric psychiatrist for the sole purpose of managing one medication for my 91 year old mother, I found Dr Vladimir Bokarius and it was worth the wait! He has a calm, gracious and friendly manner, treating my mom with utmost respect and a dose of humor. He is rare in accepting new patients and medicare - a real gentleman. Additionally, in the three visits over the last nine months, he has taken her off two meds and her outlook and demeanor are the best they have been in a long time. Highly recommend! read more

I stumbled across Andy M's review and read what was written. I feel like I must respectfully disagree with his assessment, and for this reason am submitting this review, regarding Dr. Bokarius. I should also say at the outset that this review is *solely* a review of Dr. Vladimir Bokarius -- and no one else at Comprehensive Care. The other people at Comprehensive Care might in fact be competent and decent folks. So, please be aware of this. This being said: I would not recommend Dr. Bokarius. I do not trust him. He seemed remarkably unconcerned regarding a billing error and repeatedly did not respond to communication regarding this circumstance. I finally got things taken care of, in spite of him, but wish I had never ever encountered this man. Period. Buyer beware. And as far as Andy M.'s contention that Dr. Bokarius has never previously been involved in lawsuit, you might want to do a google search on "Cade v. Bokarius et al." Just saying. I was referred to see him for a workers comp injury. I was in his office for less than 5 minutes and he started making inappropriate jokes about my injury and losing my job. It was very insulting, but I stayed because I needed help. The reason I was seeing him was increased depression, anxiety, dizziness and irritability (among other things) after my injury. I told him that I had some depression and anxiety before the injury, but my antidepressants had it under control until I was injured and now they were out of control. He told me to stop taking my antidepressants because it was such a low dose that I wouldn't notice the difference or even feel withdrawals. He told me to take more of a different med (meant just for anxiety) even though I told him it makes me nauseous. He said if it keeps doing that, to stop it as well and I wouldn't notice. He said if I had an issue to call him. He also said that he forgets to call back a lot... I stopped taking the antidepressants and, in about 3 days, the withdrawals were terrible. I increased the other med and got even more nauseated. I tried to call and got no answer or call back. I called again the next few days and still nothing. My depression, anxiety, and definitely my irritability were much worse. I stopped taking the other med and my stomach finally calmed down. My next appointment was a few weeks later (today). I had stopped taking both medications per his instructions. The withdrawals aren't as constant but are still very difficult to deal with. He wouldn't see me because I didnt bring the medication that I was no longer taking. He said I should have brought them even if I didn't take them. He would have known I stopped the other medication as well if he answered his phone. I have Aspirin, Tylenol, Peptobismol, etc at my house. Should I have brought everything in my cupboard? He had his receptionist tell me that he wouldn't see me and to reschedule for over a month away. I was in his office, having bad withdrawals, worse off than when he first saw me, and he was refusing to see me. He came out of his office and just stood there looking at me. I told him that I was having withdrawals and the other symptoms were worse. He was less than 10 feet from me and definitely heard me. He literally just waved at me. He is so disrespectful and disregarding of his patients. I got mad and reminded him that he said I wouldnt notice. He still just looked at me. I got even more angry that my doctor wasnt taking my problems seriously. I told him that I didnt think he knew what he was doing and that I wanted a different doctor. He finally spoke and said "Ok". No compassion for patient care at all. This is the only doctor I have ever seen that has told his patient to stop taking the only thing that helped them within a few minutes of meeting them. I could understand alcohol or opioid or something. But telling a person with depression to stop antidepressants in one of the hardest points in their life... So if you want to be made fun of, ignored, made worse than when you started, and told you won't be seen during a scheduled appointment when you really need help. Dr Bokarius is your guy. At least there isn't any mystery why he started his own practice, he can't fire himself. read more

I just want to tell you about my experience with Dr. Bokarius. My mom is suffering from a major depression disorder with paranoia. She been seeing by a psychiatrist for many years. Her condition got worse in last two months and we decided to get a second opinion from another doctor. One of our friends recommended Dr. Bokarius and 2 weeks ago my brother and I brought her for an evaluation. First of all, we had to wait for almost 2 hours for our appointment. Then, when we got in, he spent about 15 minutes with us and made a decision to take her off all the current medications and gave her a small dosage of Haldol. We said Ok, let's try to see if she gets better. The next appointment was scheduled within 2 weeks. She did not get better and we could hardly wait to see him again, so he can evaluate her to see if medications need to be adjusted. While we were in the building, my mom collapsed on the elevator floor and people helped us to get her out. We were on the 3rd floor of the building. We tried to get her up but it did not work. Since we were only 1 floor away from the office, I went to the office and asked for some help. I asked a receptionist to talk to the doctor. You know what he said: tell them to re- schedule. He did not even made a slight effort to find out what is going on with his patient, is she is still alive or not. He also had an assistant in his office, who was very inconsiderate when I asked her to help us. Since it was October 30th, she had a Halloween costume on and said because she is in her costume she will do absolutely nothing to help us. She did not even offer to call 911. She told us to deal with this issue on our own. I went back to the floor where my mother was lying down and people who had nothing to do with a medical profession offered us support and help. I completely disgust with this doctor and his staff. This person gave a Hippocrates oath and I can only call him a 'doctor'. Furtermore, when a psychiatrist from John Muir hospital evaluated my mom, he told us that it was a biggest mistake to take an 88 old women off her regular medications. I warn all the people who is thinking of considering this 'doctor'- don't do that. Find someone who is competent and caring. read more

I have been having problems for years and have been tried on multiple medication regimens by different doctors and hospitals. Nothing was helping fully. I guess the problem was that nobody ever took the time to really want to treat me. One visit here has uncovered so much! It turns out I dont have to be on 3 different medications with their respective side effects. Instead I have started taking a new one 3 weeks ago and it seems to be doing the trick. Was accepted as a new patient at Dr. Bokarius office. Long story short, I Had to cancel and reschedule twice and got a nasty attitude from the the receptionist. She had told me that it wasnt going to work out and that I should look for another doctor. Wth? Who says that to patients, especially those who are in need of chronic pain problems? I guess your desk job is that hard to look at a calendar. If I was your boss I would fire you....sorry Dr. Bokarius but get a better staff. read more
