Dr Kaplan is the best rheumatologist ever. I give her 10 stars. She asks questions and listens to…read moreeverything you tell her. She thoroughly explains the different types of treatment. I left her a message Sunday afternoon on my portal letting her know our truck broke down and I would not be able to make my appointment on Monday and asked if we could possibly do a Telehealth. She answered my message Sunday evening and was apologetic about our truck and said we could definitely do a Telehealth call. I have never had a Dr answer messages on a Sunday. She goes above and beyond. She is the kindest, caring, and most knowledgeable doctor I have ever had. My Provider had sent out five referrals for a rheumatologist and Dr. Kaplan was the only one that answered. I believe Dr. Kaplan was a God send. I highly recommend her.

I can't believe I have not reviewed Dr. Kaplan yet; she is awesome! She has been my rhuemy for two…read moreyears now and she is hands-down in my top three of best doctors I've seen in my life (probably #1, but it is hard to say because she keeps me out of pain so I am super biased). Dr. Kaplan was the last in a long line of specialists and misdiagnoses after a year of frustration and pain so bad that I was bed bound with it by the time I got in to see her. She got my diagnosis right on the first visit and has kept my pain absent to bearable for the last two years. She is very thorough; she does a physical exam on all of my joints at every appointment, she keeps excellent notes and follows up on them at every visit, and she is very responsive if you need to message her on the Vanderbilt portal. It is a shame to say, but getting a thorough physical exam from any doctor these days is a rarity in my experience. I feel super lucky to have found her, especially when I read stories about how people are treated (or not!) by their rheumatologists. The only drawback is the money, but the crappy American healthcare system is not Dr. Kaplan's fault. I have pretty good insurance and still pay around $400 out of pocket for each visit until I hit my deductible. If I recall correctly, my initial eval was around $800 so be prepared. Oh, her office staff, the lab staff and her nurse Kat are also great!

Love, love my doctor, in a patient/doctor way. He's like a bloodhound, he will stick with you until…read morehe finds what's going on. I started seeing him after I moved here from Florida. For about 14 years I was getting high fevers, my lower legs turning red and hurting, excruciating pain that would take me down for up to 2 weeks. This was happening sometimes twice a month. I had been to numerous doctors, went through dozens of tests. All for nothing. I was told it was all in my head, never could figure out how I could make myself get 105 degree fevers. Anyway, my dear neighbor suggested I go to Dr. Beatty. I was skeptical because I had already been through a lot but I went anyway. Dr. Beatty sat and listened to all my complaints. Gave me a good work up. Than he sent me to one of the best rheumatologist around, Dr. Legrone. He listened to me and read all my past history. You could all of a sudden see a light bulb go off. He jumps up and goes to get one of his medical journals. Right there in black and white was answers to my condition, Familia Mediterranean Fever. A rare disease. Ran tests and sure enough I had it. FINALLY A DIAGNOSIS! I was so happy. People would ask why I was happy being diagnosed with that. I told them I wasn't happy about that but happy about having a diagnosis, I wasn't crazy, I didn't make myself get fevers. I know this is long but I just want everyone to know Dr. Beatty is the best. If he can't figure it out he'll send you to someone that can. Forgot to mention I also have Crohn's disease and thought for a long time it was that causing fevers. Also have fibromyalgia.Thank God I listened to my neighbor. So don't waste another visit with someone else. Dr. Beatty is the best!

I USED to see a Dr. who was nowhere near as thorough as Dr. Stiegelfest, and this Dr. actually listens! Plus the advice I have been given so far has been better too. Very happy I had to change because it's been for the better! I never have any trouble getting appointments myself but I am flexible & I make them way in advance so I always get what works for me. As to what a previous reviewer said about having to wait more than 10 minutes ...OMG, where has this person been living, under a rock? ALL doctor offices have some sort of a wait & MANY are 10-30 minute waits if not MORE and YES on a regular basis! Yes my time is valuable too but good grief, this person must be cosseted all the time! It has NOTHING to do with how you are valued as a patient & more to do with the state of healthcare in this day and age. Not very many Rheumy's, a ton of patients in the area, so there's high demand. The docs do what they can but sorry they can't get to you as quickly as U need them to, Princess! Back to a realistic review: The staff are really nice so that makes for a more enjoyable visit. The only drawback I can see is, checking in and out is annoying. There's always a line & to be honest it's not that easy for me to stand due to my RA so I don't like when they have lines & they aren't moving people in & out quick enough. The staff up front are great with the exception of 1 lady. I hate to say anything mean but bless her heart it takes her FOREVER to check u in or out. I try to avoid her window because of that. The other ladies can move 3-4 people thru their window whereas she will still be working on getting that 1 person dealt with. AND it's not hard what she does. So I won't be ugly & call out which one it is but if u go, you'll quickly see which one it is. She is very nice so I wish she would get moved to the back office instead of the front windows. Anyway that is the only thing I have to say negative about the office and to their credit, they have addressed this issue once. They've recently hired more staff in the front but honestly they actually need 3-4 checkin/out staff at the windows at all times if u ask me! But, I won't not go here just because of that since it has nothing to do with my medical care. Compared to other offices, this is minor. I like the Dr's there, the others I have heard good reports on as well from other patients so don't think u have to worry about which doc to get in to. Also they do have a very helpful perk that my old Centennial Dr. did not have. Vandy has their own "myhealth website" that u can access to read your lab work or send a msg. to the Dr. or office, see when your next appointments are & such. I REALLY love this feature because I am more of a techy person so I like having access to info. like this.

I did not have quite the same negative experiences as other reviewer…read more 1. MED INFO: Missing. I also experienced ineligible to read notes from my referring doctor. Nothing had been entered into the doctors' database from my referring physician. When asked why I was there I was somewhat lost for words. Do I start from beginning or give "possible" reason for my referral? Like layman vs. professional. 2. EXAM: Highly Questionable. Examination VERY BRIEF, as though he did not want to touch a patient. Usually a rheumatologist will at least have you put on a gown to examine your bone structure, go up and down spine, bend fingers, knees, look at joints, neck, etc. 3. BLOODWORK: After brief exam I too was sent for bloodwork which is standard to identify factors that a normal CBC does not identify. I felt he was being thorough and wanted the report to access my condition further. In addition, a chest x-ray was ordered. 4. PROMPTNESS: As soon as his report was written it was entered into the app on my phone for review. 5. TEST RESULTS: Test results were immediately entered so I could review them without waiting for a phone call. 6. INTERACTION: I had THREE follow-up phone calls within 3 days after my appointment, thus he was concerned about the test results he had received. 7. PROMPTNESS: I had to wait minimal time. Some patients use a doctor's time as though their appointment should be timeless-no consideration for other patients. (Keep this in mind) 8. APPOINTMENT DELAY: When I make an appointment, specially as new patient I request a 30 minute block appointment so the receptionist can schedule accordingly. Otherwise you run into the problem of 2-3 patients being booked the same time. 9. If I have what I feel is a complicated conditions, or pre-existing conditions may be relevant that I need to articulate, or have multitude of questions regarding diagnosis/prognosis Again, I request additional time. 10. FUTURE TREATMENT: look forward to my follow up visit as I am hoping to discuss possible diagnoses he has listed pending bloodwork and x-ray. Ask about bloodwork available to identify other internal that may be causing some of the symptoms I am experiencing. 11. STAFF: Staff was extremely pleasant. I even got lost trying to find his location! They took the time to stay on the phone with me as I identified the names of roads and buildings I saw as I was driving. No, I am not dumb-my vehicle is 1992 model with no GPS. I was not going to take a chance reading the map on my phone while driving. Too dangerous for other drivers as well as myself. In conclusion, other than not what I would call a thorough exam as a new patient I did not have negative experiences. Just the contrary. Very concerned (though quiet and reserved in his thinking at my appointment) but few doctors will have so many phone calls made to a patient out of concern! This shows rare dedication to his patients. Few patients ever have this experience from a doctor anymore, I was one of the lucky ones.

I waited 6…read moremonths for an appointment and when it finally came, I spent more time in the waiting room than I did in the examination room. The first thing that should've tipped me off was that Dr. Razzaq didn't have any of my files or information. He had no idea why I was there. I had to give him my personal copies of my records so that he could copy them. After skimming them over, he asked why I was there. I had to explain medical charts to a medical professional!! What? After that he checked my joints in my hands and knees, neither of which were the reason I was there, he said "well you probably don't have lupus. I don't know. " and then tried to send me for another round of blood testing. I had already given him a copy of my blood work which, by the way, was normal!! He sent me away after that. A few short days later, I got a lovely bill for $300. No services rendered, no speculation, not even a proper examination. Nothing. $300 is his base rate for a consultation. $300 for him to send me away in 5 minutes flat and order more blood testing. Don't waste your time here. I could've not known anything for free. Now I'm still in the dark and $300 poorer. Lesson learned.
