Furthermore, Dr. Buchbinder did some blood work to find out why this happens so often. What a difference from some crappy NYC clinic that shoves a z-pak in your face and sends you on your way. I also get weekly allergy shots at her office. Her staff is very nice, and they seem to know almost everyone who comes in by name. I was honestly just so happy to find a doctor who is 1. amazing at what she does 2. a genuinely nice person and 3. in a convenient area (right near the 86th street subway). Awesome.

What is his fault is billing almost $2000!!! I have amazing insurance and still had to pay $500 out of pocket. On top of all of this, he sent me to Quest Diagnostics for additional testing which he never said was special or would be too costly. He also gave me zero guidance on which lab to go to - literally told me to Google it and acted as if I should already know. So rude. The opposite of helpful. I had additional allergy tests which they billed at $2800!!! Total billing for "standard allergy testing" ended up being $5000 and costing me $850 out of pocket! The worst part? She is in fact dismissive and makes you feel like your allergies (pretty straightforward ones) are in your head, giving you these "wtf," "you're crazy" and "you have cooties" looks. She does know her stuff, though. So if you don't mind the bad attitude she will allergy test you and find the solution to your problem, even though she will do it with a bad (or at least uninterested in you) attitude. I had to stop seeing her because she didn't make me feel very comfortable when I had an allergy reaction in her office, but in the end, given where I live, she is the only available doctor in my network who does shots and testing and has decent office hours. In short, don't go see her if you're a sensitive person. She's not nice. Don't go see her if you have another choice. If you must see her, just go with the attitude, it's not me, it's her and ignore any negativity on her part. Like CP says, she's all business.

Revising my last review about "hidden charges". I got a call from Dr. Osterweil detailing the exact…read morecharges for that visit. It was misplaced anger on my part. The situation was that a 30 minute ordinary ENT office visit warranted a $200 bill because of insurance policies that are outdated. The blame should be put on insurance companies. I'm not saying that this situation could not be avoided. If anything, I could have asked about the procedures and their cost before permission was given to perform the procedures. (It would be nice if the doctor could give a disclaimer of the price before performing the procedure as well.) The lesson learned is to take your health in your own hands! The system is not as transparent as it should be and if you ever feel any concern or ambiguity, just ask. If you read my first review, Dr. Osterweil was absolutely fantastic. Even after this debacle (in my opinion), he and his biller explained all the charges to me and also sympathized with my displeasure. What can you do? The government really needs to get on this healthcare reform.

My mother is diabetic with complex medical needs, yet her blood sugar was not monitored during this entire time. She was not given water, ice chips, or IV fluids despite the extended stay. After her initial bloodwork was drawn, we were told it had to be repeated due to compromised samples (a breakdown of her blood cells), which further delayed care. Communication and responsiveness were inconsistent. From an optical standpoint, it looks very bad to see staff members at numerous stations, exchanging in laughter or social dialogue while patients are waiting so long for care. One nurse specifically was dismissive and did not respond appropriately to my mother's needs. She informed us that she was not our assigned patient and her tone was unacceptable. When I respectfully raised concerns and careful not to cause a scene, I was interrupted and dismissed by her walking away from me. It was only after requesting the charge nurse that attention to my mother noticeably improved. Additionally, after the morning shift change, no physician rounded for several hours, leaving us without clarity on updates on the results from the numerous tests she was instructed to take. There also appeared to be lapses in basic safety protocols--my mother was not properly identified as diabetic or flagged with appropriate alerts or wristbands. At this point, we were not aware of what her levels were since she was not monitored for it in efforts to prevent any crisis other than for the reasons she even went to the ER in the first place. While not all staff were unkind, this experience highlighted significant gaps in monitoring, communication, and patient safety that should not occur in an emergency setting--especially for vulnerable patients. I hope this feedback leads to meaningful improvements.
