Como Park Snowboard/Ski Lessons is only 10 minutes from our place. My kids had snowboard lessons here and we come here at least twice a week. It's a bit smaller than Buck Hilll but it iis great for kids who are just starting to learn the sport. The lift ticket ( tow rope only ) is only $12 at night. They also have a chalet with decent food and drinks. Instructors are also very friendly to the kids. My family and I love coming to Como Park.

Walking and biking around the park complex is open; however, the playgrounds and bathroom buildings are currently closed due to the Corona Virus. There are signs for social distancing and staying safe. This is a great green spot in the middle of St. Paul.

Still awesome! It was hotter than the devil's toenails outside, but that's where the water park and snow cones come into play. I felt like a little kid coming back here again ;) I was able to get gorgeous pictures too!

Newbys to the Cities seem to find Como Park in their first month of residence but tend to get lost between the Zoo and the Lake and the winding roads which have recently changed names again. I currently use the walking path around the lake. 1.6 miles is a near perfect walk to keep up the pace and be done in less than twenty minutes. This is a maintenance walking path for those of us who have been walking for years and built a tolerance. The views are beautiful with various wildlife flying and floating as we won't even get to some of the human characters that may hang around the outer walks. There is a historic building on the way to the lake that housed streetcars which I believe were dismantled around 1954. Golf Course, Clubhouse, Pavilion, Como Dockside, The Conservatory, Carousel. There is a huge picnic area which can fill up quickly on weekend mornings in the summer. I have heard of family groups almost getting into fights for hogging tables. Como Ave is solid once again replacing a portion that for years was Horton Ave and Van Slyke is still around but the section near the lake is named Nagasaki Blvd for St.Paul's sister city in Japan. There is also a small parking lot on this side of the lake.

Como Park, I thought, what a perfect place to enjoy this fine March afternoon. I was newish to the Cities and had survived my first winter. It was a beautiful Sunday in late March and I should have known that everyone else would have the same idea. Because it was PACKED. With babies and dogs and yelling kids. Which I didn't really mind because who can begrudge anyone the first day of spring, even if it's a pack of crying ankle-biters. Not me. But keep this in mind if you're looking to enjoy some nature, because Como Park likely won't be peaceful. You also will not be able to park your car...at the park. Because everyone drives there. So consider your bike, even though it may not have left your garage since the past October. Then, check out the Japanese garden, which has never been too crowded in my experience and is obviously doing something right because it's a genuinely peaceful place. And the koi in the ponds are really cool. The conservatory smells delicious and is full of beautiful plants and flowers that could never grow here even in summer. But it's also usually full of people and strollers. Consider coming back when there's not a crowd, like in the middle of a weekday when you're playing hookey with your honey. The zoo is a depressing place. More so than some, because it's really small. I actively avoid zoos because they make me sad. I've been in this one, because it was free and I couldn't figure out how to get out, and the animals don't seem very happy. But kids love it, so if you have kids, definitely check it out. That said, it's FULL of kids, so if that's not your scene, then maybe take a walk in the park itself. Bring your bocce set and your buddies and set up camp. Remember, you can legally drink 3.2 beer in Como Park if it's between 8am and 8pm.

I like the lake. I don't like walking in the goose poop, but I wanted to see that compass/sundial thing. It seems like everyone gets fairly good use out of this place. While I usually prefer to take puccini to an off leash park, sometimes it is good to train your quadruped on a leader. I go in the middle of the day on week day time, so it didn't seem terribly crowded. Whether or not it gets insane on the weekends, I've yet to see. City livin' aint too shabby.

Chillin' on a park bench at Como. It's really beautiful here.

We love this place. The park is large and beautiful. We've had picnics here, we've ate ice cream here, and we've rented a single surrey bicycle twice. My children love riding the surrey as my wife and I pedal. The bicycle trail is nice and it's 1.6 miles around the lake. If you've never rode a surrey bicycle, I highly encourage to go for the single if you can. The single surrey bicycle is heavy enough and can be really tough going up hill. The ice cream is located right by the docks and was great. My children loved it. Come to this park to relax and have a good time.

On the low in the canoe.

We had such a wonderful time taking canoes out on the lake! It was relatively inexpensive and easy to reserve boats. There were multiple options for boats including canoes and paddle boats. We had to wait for people to come in from the water in order to have enough boats for our group of four, but the wait wasn't too long. We even had a discount from our hotel. The staff was super helpful and kind!

I stopped by…read morefor a quick hike and was a bit stymied when my GPS took me an unnecessary two miles over to the west entrance (past the unrelated marina) when I'd been intending to use the east one. The west entrance has a good-sized free parking lot nearby the gazebo. This structure has picnic tables, fire pit, water fountain, and restrooms (however, the latter two are seasonal... in November the fountain was shut off and the restrooms were locked, which kind of sucked for me who was in need of both... thus why I made my stay somewhat short). The trails for the most part are all paved, unless you take the unofficial ones beaten down along the riverway (which seem to be most utilized by fishers from what I could glean). So that's great for bicyclists or people pushing baby strollers or rollerbladers, but wasn't exactly the vibe I was looking for. Depends on what your desires are recreationally. There was one lake area under restoration that was therefore inaccessible for now; always nice to see when resources are being invested to keep our parks nice. Lots of trees, plenty of shade, even when most of the trees have lost their leaves in preparation for winter. I think I'll come back when some snow has fallen, because I'm sure it would probably be quite gorgeous.

There is metered street parking, with a 2-hour limit, in front of the park and there is other metered parking and commercial garages with in a reasonable walking distance. This park is very scenic and has a lot of potential. It sits up high and overlooks the Mississippi River. The park has some decent green space pockets that could be used for picnic and possibly frisbee or playing a light game of catch. It has a bunch of trees that provide a decent amount of shade. There is also a nice paved walkway around the parks perimeter that can be used to walk/jog. You will find some benches along that walkway that had a bunch of homeless people sleeping on them and a few people from nearby offices eating their lunch. The park could be maintained a bit better but, it is not horrible. The park an arcing pergola and two operational fountains. They are the best part of the park and make for some very nice pictures. The park is riddled with a bunch of homeless, as I mentioned, they were on the benches and one was in the fountain. The park has hosted events such as Saint Paul Winter Carnival, Country Flannel Night, Food Truck Friday: Voices of the Community, Francis Ford Coppola Winery Happy Hour, Hops & Hounds, and UCare Sunday Music in the Park. Either way, this is a nice park to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the big city, whether to sit and hang out, eat lunch, walk along the river overlook or just chill by the fountains.

Calling it…read morea park might even be a stretch, as it's more like a place you just stroll through to escape the sun (lots of trees & shade) or snap a few pics. There's really no parking, nor any picnic tables, drinking water fountain, or bathrooms. Just a few benches facing the fountain. This isn't a place with jogging paths or much to do. So as a "park", with its lack of amenities, I'd say it's 2.5 stars, or 3 stars at best. However, you can rent the park from the city for $200 (prices as of May 2022) for an intimate wedding, which grants you the permit, plus very limited parking spots. For events over 2 hours, you must rent your own port-o-potty (from a different company $175), as they don't provide it with your park rental. Because it's a relatively affordable way to have a wedding for those on a budget, who love nature & want to be outside, or those who just want a simple no muss, no fuss type of wedding, for that target audience, I'd say it's a decent 3.5 stars, or perhaps even a good, 4 star option. The biggest plus is that there's really no one there (didn't see anyone running or walking their dogs, etc.), so there'll be no interruptions for those wanting a private event. I would say the biggest drawback of it is that there's no real bathroom or parking.
